Confidence is realizing your value and potential as a human being, knowing more about ourselves feeds that confidence; and since this channel is mostly about bodybuilding here’s an analogy: if you can bench 220lbs, there are no opinions that can change that, and you know you can prove it at any time… that’s confidence.
@YasselAlvarez331573 жыл бұрын
@Mloyd Fayweather I was trying to explain what confidence is about, which it’s knowing what you’re capable of, your development as a person, strengths and weaknesses that working together the limitations keep on expanding by making us grow. Wisdom and skills build confidence and can’t be easily taken away, opinions can’t put a scratch on those but can help in many different ways to your advantage. The more we learn about ourselves as human beings the more value we can find and that makes me CONFIDENT. If I go into a room full of people I’d say Hello, let me speak to the manager. joke, don’t be a Karen.

There is no good way to tell people to lose weight without coming out like a dick. If they ask for advice then you give it is what I’ve noticed after working out with lots of people and talking with them about their fitness goals. People usually change their goals every 6 months to a year so eventually they land on the idea that losing weight is a good idea. If the person doesn’t work out at all the only thing you can do is offer to workout with them cause anything else comes off as lecturing people. It’s stupid as hell but it preserves your friendships and keeps your reputation good

If you watch the whole video from the start, you'll notice that at 11:43 he touches on how it's beneficial for them that this misinformation gives them something to set straight ..keeps em in a job etc. and they missed a fantastic opportunity to comment on how not only is it true of them but true of the publishers of the misinformation. It's a a cycle of near truths and misinformation that is continually discussed and continues to at least attempt to provide what is considered the objective truth for the majority vs subjective truths to minorities . A wise man once said, 'be subjective to oneself and objective to others.'
@hailtothe_rooster15723 жыл бұрын
That term misinformation used far too loosely to hold any meaning. It’s basically lying and not being held accountable for being a liar…. This applies to EVERYTHING people want to throw the word at. You’re either a liar or you’re not. The work around for that label is when you disagree with a true statement just say “misinformation” and you’re all of a sudden credible regardless of the undeniable truths. Only in this digital space does this work and far too many refuse to disconnect. They bring it into the real world where the danger of refusing absolute truth can have real consequences. Like being so large that you should just be happy with the size and you’ve got nothing to worry about.
@davidhayden14613 жыл бұрын
@@hailtothe_rooster1572 I do think you're onto something. Theres a lot that is harmful in this world and the things that go unchecked like lying basically just can't be legislated against. And that's also the reason why the perception of it is not as bad as it should be. We really perceive things in line with laws and regulations. Lying about certain things can obviously be so damaging especially in the realm of health and nutrition. But facts change and science and data is everchanging so in all things we must act upon intuition and basically operate within a constant trial and error approach.

I feel most of this backlash is borne out of the extreme and long standing health industry messaging that has been shoved down people's throats for decades. The worst messaging for years being "you are not worthy as a human being for being in a bigger body" or the classic "you're fat and disgusting because you're lazy". Have we stopped to wonder why people can be in a larger body, from real problems such as injury or depression? And then size isn't the greatest indicator of athletic fitness as well (look at Tyson Fury). Society has been tuned to ostracize and belittle people who do not meet some arbitrary 'minimum fitness or aesthetic'. The extremes are not good for both ends of course. Anger and backlash from both sides that is not conducive to reflection or debate of what is best for us long term. Nor celebration of either extremes of body types, both which flies towards real health risks. I think the real breakthrough will come from empathy, with the next generation of fitness trainers approaching fitness and health in way that undoes all the damaging messaging received in the past.

The mentality of not taking personal responsibility is a cancer, but one of the ways you can show empathy is to take what we call in public health an “ecological approach”. There are other factors that contribute to obesity in addition to personal choices (availability and affordability of healthy food, the convenience of low quality food, food deserts, personal connections to cultural cuisines, depression, family history and genetics, sedentary or stressful jobs, etc.). The cards are stacked against people who struggle with obesity. It doesn’t take away from personal responsibility, because that is included in the ecological approach, but we can also advocate for systemic change and not put the entire blame on individuals. It’s a both/and type of argument.

Obesity is also driven by how dysfunctional our food system is in the US. We need to make it easier and more convenient for people to eat fresh, whole foods, and easier to avoid processed junk. We stuff corn syrup into EVERYTHING and that is a big part of the problem. As it is, you have to go out of your way, or spend a lot of money to eat clean. I wanted to write the author of the article "The Relentless Reality of Anti-Fatness in Fitness." The starting anecdote described a trainer who was condescending toward their client sure. The client assumed that they were treated this way because of their body type. The author called this anti-fat bias, which was a stretch. It was clearly body type condescension though. But this is not the same as being anti fat. Calling it anti-fat assumes a person's motives are the worst case which is problematic. But let's also have a little sympathy for the trainer. The overwhelming majority of clients are coming to them for weight loss reasons. It was lazy to assume this on this particular trainer's part, especially when it was noted otherwise, but it was not a stretch to assume as much. Really, you have a right to be annoyed, but let's not dwell on it. Plus, just because you do endurance work doesn't mean that extra weight you carry is not going to give you problems down the road.

An interesting discussion, though seems to be lacking a socio-economic lens. Not everyone has the privilege to consistently access "healthier foods" or fitness equipment. The government can play a role in regulating the food industry for the benefit of all our health. The medical sector also has to take some responsibility. The fact that most doctors know little about nutrition and fitness is a problem. This needs to change.

Eating disorders and body dismorphias get way too much attention. Its fucking hard to overdiet or overtrain. Very few people can actually push the intensity and duration of such pracitces into dangerous territory. Meanwhile, 75% of the population are overweight or obese. Over 100 000 people die of obesity related complications every year in the USA. The last thing American society needs is to tell them "hey, at least you are not dieting excessively". And lets not kid ourselves, that is what any press relating to eating disorderes, models being too skinny, fitness people fitnessing too hard etc. does. Just look at the comment section under any mainstream media article on the topic, its full of fatties patting themselves on the back for at least being better than "those people".

The body acceptance movement is lacking some serious fine print Sure love your body, but understand that you should probably spend some considerable time learning to “love“ ill health, chronic disease, chronic pain, disability, and shame. Because for real real, there are limitations to primary care and even acute care, limitations to what any of them can do to help you once you get sick. Seriously though, once you start feeling the effects of obesity or your body finally can’t handle it (high blood pressure, diabetes, immune system issues, injuries) there are no quick fixes or relief. At best, medications that you’ll have to take for the rest of your life to HOPEFULLY manage your symptoms, and even then that relies back on YOU to adjust your lifestyle to ensure to take your medications as prescribed and don’t exacerbate the issue with more poor lifestyle choices and behaviors. At worse, you develop progressive/incurable illnesses (ex: heart failure) and are facing your mortality prematurely.
