3:33 I stopped eating added sugar all together in foods but still got sugar from fruits and vegetables like carrots. Switching over to from added to natural sugar was the one key that helped me loose the majority of my weight, and I used to be 300+ pounds! Switching from a diet where you over eat and going towards whole foods is honestly the way to go as at least for me because you can still eat a large salad and still feel full the way you used to.

Love the nutrition and science behind food and the body but I became a health coach because of the behaviors 1000 percent. I don’t think those ever go away either as habits and behaviors are very engrained in us. As someone who does a lot of reading, research and reads scientific journals on health for fun, behavior all the way is what drives a lot of the obesity epidemic right now. Just today, I had candy because I was stressing out about my husband and I trying to conceive. And I know better, but growing up I watched my mom try to hide food and watched her eat more when she was stressed and adopted that behavior. I allowed myself the candy after taking time to allow my stress levels to drop and enjoy it. I won’t go back for more if I’m eating it for enjoyment and not stress. Junk foods can sit in our house and I have no issues unless I’m feeling a lot of stress. It’s knowing your behaviors and even if you cave, it’s about reframing each situation. No one is perfect and I think people give up when they can’t be perfect every single time.

It's very difficult to over-consume a proper diet of protein, fat and vegetables to the point where you would become obese. Obesity is largely caused by overconsumption of sugar as well as starchy carbs, which is also sugar, essentially!
@DrAJ_LatinAmerica
@DrAJ_LatinAmerica 2 жыл бұрын
It is all about overconsumption. Overconsumption is the problem. Yes many versions of the solution. Had 30 obese patients on a cupcake diet for 6 months. Very low 800 calories a day. Only water, no coffee or juice or other liquid. No gym workouts. Just walking and movements. All lost weight, all improved blood markers,... Any diet works for a short time regarding type 2 diabetes and obesity. Clearly the cupcake diet is not long term and doesn't provide satiety. All complained of hunger pains. All were given vitamin / mineral supplements to avoid too many negative health affects. Also did a study of 15 men on a pure carnivore diet. All gained weight (overconsumption) and health issues during first 6 months. The next 6 months the food was regulated then weight normalized and health issues improved. Overconsumption of even fats can be bad. The old saying of - "If some is good then more is better" saying is almost never true. It is true when patients were only provided a very limited selection of chicken breast, eggs, broccoli, spinach and rice. All lost weight, all had health improvements, no one had urges to over consume. Later we added this like BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. All started consuming more. Next step was going to zero calorie condiments. Make this taste good, people tend to overeat
@tom8437
@tom8437 2 жыл бұрын
@@DrAJ_LatinAmerica Saying "overconsumption is THE problem" is a gross oversimplification. Calories are not all created equal...not by any stretch of the imagination. Some foods are far more damaging AND much more likely to be over-consumed. Sugar/carbs are clearly BY FAR the worst in these regards. It's really not even debatable. So for the life of me, I cannot imagine why you would put someone on a cupcake diet for any period of time, let alone 6 months . Please tell me you were joking about that.
@DrAJ_LatinAmerica
@DrAJ_LatinAmerica 2 жыл бұрын
@@tom8437 no. No joke. Real studies. We use real people for testing. Not all studies are done on rats mice dogs cats,...at some point people want to see real human studies. Did you want to be the first human to get a C19 injection? No. Someone has to go first. Generally in third world countries. Yes I completely understand what is a correct diet for different individuals. However many things still must be proven to the doubters. As far as weight loss, yes it is that simple, eat less and move more and anyone can lose weight. Might not feel great or be satisfied but will lose weight. We had people on a ZERO Food, diet for 6 months. If a person is fat, no big deal, eating is not required for a short time, live off the body fat and yes they are give vitamin and mineral supplements. For health, that is a different subject. Or for athletes, people who autoimmune issues, cáncer patients,.... it is also different. Meat based diet are the best but have patients who demand 100% vegan diets. They can be healthy as well, just require more attention to detail. Presently involved in long term RCT's of carnivore, keto, vegan, balance diet format comparisons. No one size fits all.

Cholesterol, in both HDL and LDL forms, are not the cause of heart disease. They are a response to injuries in the arteries. Heart disease was present and initiated a response. High LDL has been well researched in people with no heart disease. Fats are essential components of health and nutrition. Sugar provides only energy. No nutrition. Given that people are overweight because of over consumption which is a better path? One that provides no nutrition or one that provides vital nutrition? Advice of merely reducing total caloric intake is like giving dynamite to children. The emotional connection to food is profound and probably best left for mental technicians if a client is willing to eat nothing but Peanut M&M's* to lose weight. *True story. I have an extended family member that periodically goes on Peanut M&M "diets" when she becomes too obese.

I've really started watching what and how I eat this year, and the one thing I can say without a doubt, is the healthier I eat the harder it is to eat processed foods. They just don't taste good to me now. Also keeping track of my caloric intake has really taught me why I've been so overweight my whole life. Although I'm still confused how out of no where I will get these sugar cravings and just need to pound some candy or a soda. And then I won't touch it again for weeks.

One of the issues that you really didn't touch on was as much as we're demonizing sugar, people only really think of the little white granules. Then there is the fast eating syndrome as a working person I have an hour or less for lunch eat quickly this Carrie's over to home now I over eat and don't realize it Have to stop an slow down let my brain catch up with my stomach. Also not consuming fluids before and with meals (water) have to much solid foods prepared usually on oil or fats (flavor) having to restrain from these impulses sometime is overwhelming. I've been battling autoimmune disorder similar to Rheumatoid Arthritis for over years and after I touch stock of the amount of sugar that I was eating daily and reduced it, my symptoms have literally been cut in half. It might not be a cure but if somebody just manually takes away 50% of your pain and inflammation it makes life a lot more tolerable. Also sugar is a nutrient in any way shape or form, it's an energy source. Fat and salt are essential, meaning you'll get sick or die without them. Guys like Wayne Norton never look at anything through the perspective of somebody being sick it's always like, all this perfectly healthy person can have sugar and blah blah blah if they keep their calories low. If I eat just a little bit too much of that shit it tears my body up. Stay away from the fucking sugar as much as possible!

@jameslincoln4154

I have two, okay maybe more we’ll see, answers… 1. I’d say yes and no … if it has protein (30g +), no, it’s a meal replacement in the context of muscle growth. If it doesn’t and you’re using the fruit to make your kale taste good, then I’d say yes, you are drinking your calories and it’s a sugar bomb. More than anything else, the issue is the fructose, which can only be processed by your liver and it only has a certain capacity per day (and it isn’t very much). 2. Yes and no as well. The artificial sweetener is not a problem, but what are you using for a creamer? If it’s MCT oil or powder, no … they go right to your liver and are processed into ketones, heavy cream? If you’re only using a tablespoon, no, but let’s be real, who only uses a tablespoon?😂. Most other creamers have too many calories and sugars. Really the only way for coffee NOT to be considered as drinking your calories is to drink it black, or with just the artificial sweeteners… no creamers

It ultimately comes down to calories, but sugar/carbs make it infinitely easier to overeat due to carbs spiking insulin the highest and elevating hunger hormones by that (hence why MK-677 makes you super fucking hungry while at the same time putting you at risk of diabetes due to the ghrelin-insulin connection). Fat on its own or in combination with protein, on the other hand, does not have anywhere near the same insulin response and doesn't provoke hunger hormones, and hence why you get the (valid) keto claims of it is so "satiating" - so satiating to the point that undereating can become a real problem because you eventually just rarely feel very hungry even when you ought to eat a bit more.

Arthritis is an autoimmune condition. Meat isn’t inflammatory like grains or sugar, so a diet heavy in animal foods like meat would lower inflammation in the body. There’s absolutely no reason to avoid meat due to arthritis. I had it and healed it with meat. I was never told to avoid meat, either.

I was more curious on the comment Justin made about insulin and dental health with low calorie diet’s that are still high in sugar. Because I’m no scientist or anything similar to it, but at some point I’d have to think that if your diet is still pretty high in sugar that certain essential vitamins and minerals will be lacking as well? Then although health markers would be improved, there could be deficiencies in those? So I think there could be on for scene detriment to it even though the science might be saying otherwise right now. I’m not sure. More talk/research on this would be interesting though. I love you guys and all, but sometimes you do steam roll over his comments lol

One thing I did to stop myself from binge eating lots of chocolate (when I used to eat chocolate), was to only buy the bars of chocolate, not a slab (if that's what you call them). Basically, I knew that I'd want to eat a bunch of different types of chocolate (e.g., white, milk with hazelnuts, milk with caramel) and I used to buy the full 180g slabs of 3 to 4 different types. So, when I knew I wanted to have a bit of a binge, I'd instead buy 4 or 5 x 50g bars or different flavours, and so would end up eating 150g of chocolate as opposed to almost 180g x 4 (I wouldn't eat all in one go, but I would have too much on hand to easily go overboard, and then there would be left overs to continue eating the following day/s). This was only on the odd occassion, and it would make me feel better mentally about enjoying my little binge as opposed to feeling guilty about eating sooooo much chocolate in one hit.
@tom8437
@tom8437 2 жыл бұрын
The problem isn't the chocolate...it's the sugar ADDED to the chocolate. Try chocolate with good (i.e. very low net carb) sugar substitutes such as allulose, erythritol, monkfruit sweetener, etc.

How do you eat either tons of fat or sugar and have low calorie? LOL it doesn't happen. Now, if you had said a mild portion of sugar.. or a mild portion of fat, possibly even up to moderate, like a lower moderate level.. then this would make sense. But nobody eats a lot of fat or a lot of sugar and remains unchanged in weight or disease, because you cannot keep the calories low.

Fat consumption is NOT causing obesity. The culprit is processed foods...largely sugar, high-glycemic carbs (rice, wheat, corn, bread, pasta, etc)...as well as vegetable, nut and seed oils. These are the killers. They are inflammatory and easy to massively overconsume. Animal proteins and fats are not at all inflammatory and very difficult to overeat if they comprise most of your diet. And veggies are difficult to overeat as well, although many of them can be inflammatory, which is something to pay attention to if you're trying to figure out what is causing you problems.

@@megavegan5791 I can't disagree with what you're saying about processed foods. But that's my point. Fat is not the problem, it's the processed foods. Unlike fats, flour is by definition a processed food and can NEVER be healthy. That is basically the case with all grain-based foods. Sugar is essentially the same, although fruits are not processed foods. Having said that, most fruits (aside from berries) are extremely high in sugar and really need to be eaten in moderation. Obviously some fruits are far worse than others in this regard. People should try to learn and understand more about this in order to reduce their interest take of sugar so they can become metabolically healthy. We have an epidemic of metabolic syndrome, which encompasses diabetes and obesity. And even skinny people can have some level of insulin resistance as well as visceral fat that leaks inflammation into the organs. More people need to understand this.

Kids and adults do less and eat more processed foods more than ever before. A candy bar is not what’s causing this. Not enough people are active and most of our population is lacking proper sleep and have huge amounts of stress. Our culture is addicted to sugar filled coffees and fast food. We watch shows and movies on the couch more than we lift weights and go for walks and runs. I have gone from a healthy athlete to an obese gamer and it didn’t take long. The moment you stop moving and lifting you have to watch what you eat and how you sleep. Absolutely no one watches what they eat after they stop working out. There are probably very few people who can maintain a healthy diet without exercising.

I can tell you right now, the Khoisan (native South African tribe) only ate from the land and animals (meat and vegetables) and never had any sugar. When they were discovered by colonialists, they were described as hyper fit and hyper happy. They would laugh all day and you could see the muscle striations of their bodies because they had no fat on them. The colonialists gave them sugary goods and cigarettes in exchange for their tracking abilities to track their enemies during war and that completely destroyed them. They became addicted and unhealthy and now the culture is almost completely lost. If you cut out sugar completely form your diet it will only benefit you.
