Happens every year on December 25. The Old Sun "dies" and is "born again" as the baby Sun. This is necessary to go to Heaven (spring equinox - autumn equinox).

With the plethora of minor prophets during the timeline you've described, I have this darkly comical image of Zephaniah, Obadiah, Habakkuk, Nahum, et al wandering around Jerusalem all at once ringing bells with placards hanging around their necks that read "The End Is Near." What a din they would have made! In my imagination, I can see bystanders gathering up their children and hastening away while their ranting and raving continues. On a brighter note, Brandon, I think you did a great job last night on "The Hang-Up" with Matt Dillahunty. You were very calm and gentle when dealing with the theist callers. All of these characters are fictional. "The End is Near," (biblical) is always the end of a Year. Just change it to The End of the Year. The sacred year begins and ends at the spring equinox. The period of the spring equinox to the autumn equinox, is the biblical Heaven, Promised Land, Living God and so on. This is the biblical good. The period from the autumn equinox to the spring equinox is exile, prison, sickness, darkness, hunger and all the evil. They are the good sun/sun an evil sun/son. The father and son are the one sun. Same with mother and daughter sun.

The name Zephaniah: Summary Meaning Yah Stores Up, Yah Hides Etymology From (1) the verb צפן (sapan), to hide or store, and (2) יה (yah), the shortened name of the Lord. The iah in his name is the equivelent of IHWH/IHVH aka Jupiter/Zeus/Indra. Zephaniah's terrain is more akin to the five signs in Rev 9.5 aka Scorpio thru Pisces. You could say he is also Jupiter Stygius.

After all my struggles with *theological philosophy,* I could never reconcile "The Day Of The Lord" with anything good, kind, benevolent, or however apologists paint it. Perhaps, even when stuck in the mindset of Christianity, I saw too many contradictions in this deity's words, and deeds. I had once described my childhood image of this strange religion as "sitting in a dark room, trembling, terrified, and just waiting for this huge deity suddenly coming in, and beating me to a pulp... just because." *I was a 5-yr-old girl thinking this way!* Brandon, you confirmed why I suffered such trauma. *I was terrified of my dad, who became enraged at any sign, real or imagined, of "rebellion," and literally "rejoiced" in our terror.* Yet, he could not understand the times when we could not show much, if any, affection toward him. I apologize for this rant, but from what Zephaniah says, as if "god was speaking," it brought back the image of that little girl sitting, and trembling in fear in a dark room. It saddens me that so many adherents (perhaps born into the beLIEf system) hope for "The Day Of The Lord," not realizing that *IF it were true,* it represents the day that huge man finally walks into that dark room, and beats them to a pulp... just because. I have great respect for you, Brandon. I don't think you fully realize how many people that you help with your studies. Aééhé (Thank you).

I think the very first time I even heard about any of these minor prophets' books in the Old Testament was watching Useful Charts video on tracking the origins of when these books were written. I think it's very likely that over 90% of Christians completely overlook them. I have never had such a thorough understanding of the Bible until I started this series just a couple of months ago.

The individuals writing these books cannot conceive of mercy and peace. They just conceive revenge fantasies. I wonder if the prophet was aware of the Genesis flood story. If YHWH is claiming to wipe out all life, he is contradicting his promise to Noah.

I watched a documentary on Herbert W. Armstrong's apocalyptic predictions. Actual footage of his followers the day after the world was supposed to be wiped out shows many of them actually sad and disappointed that everyone but them had not been decimated. Day of the Lord...awful god, awful impact on compassion of followers.

Zephaniah was likely written during the reign of King Josiah*. Two of the books claimed to be written during the the reign of Josiah were Nahum and Zephaniah. Unlike most prophetic books, Nahum was not written as a warning to Judah or Israel but as a warning to Assyria. In contrast, Zephaniah was written directly to the kingdom of Judah, warning them to be faithful to YHWH or suffer the same fate as the kingdom of Israel. The books share some similarities with the early parts of the book of Isaiah (~760bce chapters 1-32), indicating that Zephaniah may have been a disciple of the Isaiah sect. *In terms of development of the Hebrew Bible, Josiah (641 - 609 bce) is probably the most important of all the ancient Israelite kings. It is thought by most scholars that the initial versions of Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Kings and Samuel started to be compiled during his reign. This hypothetical work is known as the Deuteronomistic History. You will notice a major shift in theology from henotheism back to polytheism when the Egyptian Pharoah Necho II killed Josiah (609 bce) and put his son Jehoaikim in his place as a vassel king. This is just before the Medes/Babylonians ultimately conquered Judah and destroyed the temple in Jerusalem (586 bce).

Good summary I think, kind of the same as in the last SBS where it is quite clear that this literature is arguing with itself, and its not cohesive in the concepts it presents, such as the part you put on collective punishment. Plus the repeated point that this represents a not very benevolent God. It kinda irks me that these last books in this series seem to be less scrutinized on than previous books, since just a few history facts are mentioned.

I recommend the book, "Ishmael". I believe Daniel Quinn was the author. Imagine if Gorilla Grod were a brilliant philosopher instead of a villain. That book changed my life because Ishmael summed up humanity in simple terms.

I recently started detaching from the Bible after hearing out from big atheists like Alex O’ Connor and Genetically Modified Skeptic and that led me to this channel. So glad I discovered this because I had so much fear in the Bible and felt like I couldn’t escape. Thank you for asking thought provoking questions/ideas that I have never considered. I never committed to Christianity (still raised as one) but I felt like I could never leave it because I’ll be damned to hell. Thanks for helping me leave this religion.

Because the evangelists' attempts to make the Gospels relevant to Old Testament passages were dubious at best, I feel, based on how you've described it here, that Revelation strikes the best parallel to Zephaniah. You already mentioned the anti-lukewarm attitude, and we seem to have the same imagery of dark sky omens, blood everywhere, striking the nations (plural!), consuming fire, God's consternation that a tortured people are turning away from him, comparing disobedient cities to slut-shamed women, and ultimately looking forward to utopian paradise after this is all over, where everyone seems to forget all the horror that's just transpired.

Josiah can be broken down into Jos Iah with the Jos the same as IES/YES/JES/IOS/IHS of Bacchus and Jes us. You might enjoy Science of the Bible, or Hebrew Mythology by Milton Woolley. He gives many excellent references. Osiris, Noah, Moses, Thoth, Hermes, are all Bacchus characters. Remember where Moses is associated with the Greek Ganymede? This is where Zeus/Jupiter falls in love with the boy-sun (Shinar) and carries him to Mount Olympus. This became Exodus 19.4.

If a prophet comes up with an MVP (Most Viable Prophecy) that strikes the right balance between saying something that an investor thinks might be true and something bad enough that the investor wants to hire the prophet to plan how to fix it, then the prophet gets a job working for that investor. They can then afford to write more prophecy and they get to be a major prophet if they get into the canon. Otherwise they write an MVP and don't get funding and can't afford to write any more than that and are a minor prophet if they get into the canon. Zephaniah didn't get funding. We should expect his book of the Bible to be an MVP that was either unbelievable or was so mild nobody cared. In this case, it was too unbelievable.

story telling. We make disaster movies these days. Back then, they had stories. And if you were good at telling them, you could do it for a living. You earned some coins, the hard working folks got entertained. Good thing. To see how good it was, just remember all the people who love telling jokes, but simply can't. Then remeber a person who CAN. Story telling was a great service back then. or scare the ignorant masses into following you. I have heard an interesting perspective on this. Nations mattered more than people in the older Middle East, so the day of the lord is when all nations are "brought low" or even shattered, leaving only true followers. And as god is no respecter of nations, the jews were not either. Again, taken from a tribalistic mindset, it makes perfect sense, it would be a day of collapsing empires and total mayhem, as the peoples of the world would have no nations to protect them from the judgement of the prophets. No armies to kill them, just pure unadulturated shaming of the morally lesser nations and tribes of the world.
