As a young man I remember having our part of the Grand Union Canal dredged near Hoxton in east London for the first time since WW2. The was 2 German 500lb UXB's found , along with hand grenades on the first couple of days alone. They closed 2 streets off and told us to keep away from our windows as a safety measure lol. I cannot believe we use to swim in that polluted dangerous canal as kids, but it's all changed now and looking absolutely stunning with so much wildlife.

If the council workers ever put down the coffee & got out of the van and just maybe actually removed all the leaves, the roads would not be flooded in the first place.

Pro Tip - When cleaning your dryer vent dry a load of wet laundry for about 20-25 minutes before you begin and the lint will clump together and there will not be a dusty mess to clean up.

@@robertrickett7816 no its about you making a much harder to clear underground blockage even if it doesnt cause flooding down stream in the system.
@adambeimel104
@adambeimel104 13 күн бұрын
the problem is not the leaves, the problem is that you get a lot of rainwater into the sewage system and make the work of the sewage plant that much harder. That's why the grate doesn't have holes for the rainwater to get in, and modern cities have seperated sewage and rainwater systems.
@MistyChickenHB
@MistyChickenHB 13 күн бұрын
I can imagine! City workers probably get frustrated because it causes blockages and makes their job harder. It’s a small effort to properly dispose of leaves, but it helps keep the system running smoothly and prevents bigger problems down the line.

The grate isn't there to keep leaves out. It's there to keep people and other large objects from falling in. Leaves aren't going to clog up those pipes.

For decades my friends gathered leaves from the woods, and dumped them in a low area in one of their fields. Today if you go there you'd never know it was a swampy low area. Twenty acres of woods, makes for a lot of leaves

7:01 That filter material is on the grate to prevent debris from entering the storm sewer system. Lifting up the grate drained the parking lot faster, but also allowed every random piece of trash to enter the stormwater system.

@@LevineLawrence From the website of the company which did the work ... "Working with conservation officers and within the standards for listed buildings we began to work on test trials across different areas of the façade. This helped to bring clarity to the methodology we would use to restore and revitalise the building. After selecting sensitive cleaning methods based upon our test trials, we were approved by the conservation office to use various careful and conservative steam cleaning phases to remove soiling to the stonework."
