Mark, Christianity came to the subcontinent of India 2000 years ago when St. Thomas ,one of the 12 disciples of our Lord Jesus came to South India, specifically to the State of Kerala to preach the good news. Sadly he was murdered on the outskirts of the city of Madras, now called Chennai. Mount St.Thomas in Chennai is named in his honor! Although the Christians had their own hymns in their respective languages, the British occupation of India is what allowed the Indian Christians to sing these English Hymns!. Dan Purdy - Thanks for the feedback. As mentioned in the description we did this hymn in this album as an Indian Regiment (Assam Regiment in North East India ) used the same tune as their Regiment song " Badluram Ka Badan" from a incident that happened in World War 2 . The tune is very popular to those in that part of the country. We wanted to introduce the hymn to be relavant to the common man so through the hymn the love of God can be experienced.
