We use lift too. I think that in America, the term elevator is used when it is primarily people that use it. A lift is something that is primarily used to lift objects. Like in a warehouse.

Yeah the two terms are fairly interchangeable, but most people are going to say elevator. Even when it's in a warehouse for objects it's usually called a freight elevator. Everyone will know what you mean when you call it a lift though.

@@talonbreck Yeah a lift in America is more along those lines. Just small lifts like on the back of a freight truck. It'd be weird for us to call it an elevator because when you say elevator you think of like a long shaft in a building moving you between many floors like Sjin built here. Also, the ground vs 1st floor thing he mentions is true. We don't use "ground". This also isn't just an American thing. Really only in Britain and some of Europe do they have the "ground floor". For other countries it's not really descriptive enough. Poland uses "parter" which basically means zero floor. For my house in particular, as an example, it'd be weird to use "ground floor" because if you go by typical British standards that's the floor you walk in on from the outside.. You can do that from the front of my house which is the basement (above ground basement on the front and left side of the house) but the rest of the house is built into a hill so the actual living area is also a ground floor.. hence why it's easier to just say 1st, 2nd, etc.

for me elevator makes sense cause it either increases or decreases your elevation, but ya they are pretty interchangeable

The "glitched" contraption control is not a glitch, thats an actual solid block. It's most likely the one you tried to place down while the elevator was still an entity. Just break the block while the elevator is on floor one and you'll have a perfect elevator.

If you think it's confusing already, you should've been to the hospital I used to work at. So the floor that opened up to the street level doors, the first floor, was the ground level (G on the elevator). Above it was floors 2-5, and the two basement floors below. The ground level of the main building connected to the outpatient building, and the floor it connected to was the first floor. Below the first floor was the mezzanine and the lobby, and the lobby is what was street level in *that* building. So the main building went B2-B1-G-2-3-4-5 and the outpatient building went L-M-1-2-3-4, and floors G and 1 were the ones that connected, respectively. But G and L were the ones that opened to the street~

When building with Create, consider trying out the toolbox. It holds up to 4 stacks of 8 different items, with a clever interface to keep your hotbar uncluttered. Then at the end of the day, a single keystroke returns whatever items you had in the box then pick it up with a quick punch.

Frankly, the toolbox is a great tool, regardless of if you stuff it with create things or not- it'll hold whatever after all, like a mini-backpack with useful functionality

Sjin, a neat trick for more space on elevators (And trains when you get to them) is to use the copycat panels or other similar blocks to build the walls, that way you get a whole extra block of space on the inside.

the controll thing ddnt dissapear it was placed below the elevator so i would recomend removing the extra controller that is randomly in the elevator shaft

I'm from a lift colony. 29:21 I am hopefully seeing a guiding arrow, like an exit to the staircase. OSHA(?) as it is commonly sounded out in some countries. I am having a lot of fun with this series.

"Lift" because it lifts you up, "elevator" because it elevates you up. I love my headcanon that most differences between American English and British English is all petty one-upping.

if you haven't already, look at redstone links, basically. wireless redstone, great for using on clutches to toggle machines off and on. using with a storage threshold switch, you can auto make stuff when the supplies are low. Your left over contraption controls is actually just another contraption controls you must have place by accident

Americans do use both "lift" and "elevator." I suspect which term is more common depends on the mechanism being used. An "elevator" typically refers to a crane and pulley system that uses cars and counterweights to move people up and down. A "lift" usually uses gearing or hydraulics to slide a platform up and down (typically for heavier equipment or systems requiring more precise/flexible positioning). At least, that's my experience... "Your mileage may vary."

Hey Sjin! Ever thought about using a minecart contraption as some sort of digger? I tried it myself and love it, yes it takes more effort, but it is fun to do! You could even make it as a train that tunnels and lays tracks for you! Anyway, love the vids as always my dude!

depends on where in Murica one is raised, i've heard BOTH terms used... and lets face it, a lift will lift you up.. an elevator will elevate you up.... both terms describe the same thing....
