There were once great wars and the players errected great monuments of vanity and power. But only shattered lavacasts remains, silent witnesses to an era bygone. The valley of wheat long a myth. There's nobody left to kill, and nothing left to grief, except for the grief that comes upon seeing everything that was in juxtaposition to everything that still is

Once a young child craving for more time on his PC. You went to your parents and asked if they could give you a few more minutes to play. You have been doing good at school recently, so they agree to let you play about half an hour before you go to sleep. You get back into that tiny dirt hole you made that contains only a furnace and and a crafting table. Soon the sun will rise up again and you'll be able to get out of your tiny mine safe and sound. Meanwhile, you wait for the iron to finish melting. You mine a few blocks, your inventory gets full and you save a few things on a chest. Sun's up back again, so you can get out. Tons of trees surround you, and on the distance, the biome changes being splited by a river. There's a forest. You go explore and you find a wolf. You check your inventory because you remember you killed a few skeletons back in the mine. Only three, that's probably not going to work, but there's no harm in trying. One, nothing. It wasn't going to be that simple, right? Two, nothing. Only one left. You should probably save that to make bone meal and farm a little. Three... Heart particles pop up, and now you know you've got yourself a new friend. You sit your dog down and think about a name for him. What could it be? "Time's up", says your mom, "come downstairs, dinner's ready". You smell the hot pockets, you love them, remember? Time flies and you go to sleep. You invest hours, and hours in this new world you created. You went to a new dimension recently, and shortly after, you fought a dragon. You wander on and off from your minecraft world onto your COD matches with your friends. Fridays are your favorite days because you get to rent a DVD from blockbuster. You have Domino's for dinner and then play with your friends. Some older kids screaming on that lobby, but you loved to hear those kids argue over a match, remember? Sometimes you come back to that world you created. You made a really big house you're really proud about, but recently you haven't got much time to play. There's nothing much else to do anyways. You have full diamond armor, all enchanted. You've conquered every dimension and made it your own. You even made some farms. Besides, now you have a girlfriend, When did that happen? Your online friends started getting jobs on subway to pay for their education, so you don't play with them as often as you did. >Last seen online 2 days ago. >Last seen online 2 months ago. >Last seen online 2 years ago. You have a job to and you're living on your own. You don't speak to your parents very often. The smell of hot pockets has lost its charm and you don't hear your mom calling you for dinner. When did that happen? Where did those times go? You don't have time to play anymore. You got promoted on your job, you're starting to build your very own life. The memories of that kid who wished to stay awake playing all night long start to fade away as you begin to wish you could sleep longer hours. What happened to you? Everything must come to an end, just be sure to make everything out of every second, so that when the time comes, you rather remember these things with a smile and not with a lingering sensation of "I wish I would have changed this. I wish I would have done that". One day you'll go to sleep, only to never wake up again. >Last seen online, ~~ years ago...

back in 2015 I used to frequent this minecraft server where me and my online buddies would just goof around in. We called our little gang "lunchmoney", after a brief naming session where someone suggested it as a joke, but it stuck. We were all from south east asia, so our time zones weren't very far apart which meant we could schedule when to play with each other. Other people rarely joined the server so we had it all to ourselves. I remember building huge castles, always with that industrial kinda look to it since I used Iron blocks. One of my friends even got admin perms on the server since he "donated" to the host. We played, 4 times a week for almost a year. But I remember one day the server just.. shut down. I couldn't connect to it anymore, despite trying a hundred times. That's when it all came crashing down. My dumbass didn't ask for any of my friend's socials. We just played at around the same time and talked using the server's chat. Now that the server's gone, I couldn't meet them anymore. In desperation, I joined large servers at around the same time I usually join the old server, hoping to find them. any of them, atleast just one. I never found any of them. It's been 5 years since, I haven't played minecraft in a hella long time, I've made new friends whom I share lots of happy memories with. But everytime I watch a minecraft vid on youtube I'm reminded of the time I've spent on that forgotten minecraft server, with people I knew but at the same time didn't. Building things that will never see the light of day again. I like to imagine that, somewhere, in some random hard drive, someone saved the world just before the server went offline, and now explores an exciting plane with thousands of creations, wondering who the hell would spend so much time making all this stuff That "who" would be me, and the lunchmoney crew. edit 15/10/2021 : ShiRaiTou, Goof(or Goov)Ball, Lololgamer, Haikal0123, KubalaiKK, (Forgot first part of name)Tari, danitdm, Farhadbijak, AGoodMeal, and UmpaK, It's Toostew. I'm desperate. I've lost you that day but I refuse to forget what we went through. The things we built, the stupid jokes, the infinite number of overworld days spent on that server. You guys mean so much to me. I'd give anything to meet you all again. Please. Just one more time. Atleast so I can know how you're doing. If any one of you is out there, please contact me. my discord will always be open, promise. (discord link removed) edit 22/5/22 : After a short lapse, I am continuing the search for my friends. I have not given up yet. edit 28/8/22 : Hi everyone. Toostew again. I came back to this post after someone commented asking about the status of my search, and unfortunately I have to report that I can no longer continue it. I've recently scored very well in my SPM (malaysian college entrance exam) and have gotten a full scholarship for a 2-year International Baccalaureate(IB) program. Because of this, I've decided to focus on my education rather than continue this search which I now believe to be impossible to complete. Though I admit I've once said over a year ago that finding them was the most important thing for me, year-ago-me didn't have a scholarship to worry about. So now, I'm trying put it all behind me. No more looking for answers. No more searching an empty ocean. If my memory serves me right, my minecraft friends definitely wouldn't want this for me, They would've wanted me to focus on myself, and my future, rather than chase ghosts from my past. It's time to look forward. I'm sorry this story ends here, but I truly believe it's for the best. Writing this edit made me tear up (Fuck it, I lied, I cried alot.). All that effort, all that time invested just to learn anything about my minecraft friends, all were in vain. Despite a large part of me feeling great that I've been mostly successful in putting this behind me, a tiny part wishes I could still go back to them. To those days. despite knowing very well it's not possible. atleast for now. All I can hope now is that the rest of the lunchmoney crew are happy, healthy and successful wherever they are. To sum it all up, I can definitely say the hardest part of this journey wasn't finding them, It was letting them go.

Before my grandma passed away last year we always bonded over silly things. She was super childish in the funnest way possible. She had been suffering from dementia and didn’t have much time with me left. For about four years we played Minecraft. I know that sounds strange but she was absolutely captivated by it. She laughed every time she would see an animal or flowers. She didn’t really do much outside of look at the animals and scenery but she enjoyed all of it. One thing she always said was how soothing the music was. Sometimes she would just leave my iPad open on Minecraft so she could listen to the music while she knitted. One of the last things to go in dementia is the memories of music. I can’t help but wonder if this is what her mind sounded like while trying to remember the music in the game. Thanks for being my best play buddy Gram Janet :) 1937-2020

"there was a time in minecraft when you didnt need lapis to enchant" I would tell my kids. They won't believe. They never will. To them, my mind is gone. A shadow of the man that raised them and brought forth their life. In my hospital bed I languish. Despite them being by my side, I am alone. Desperately trying to connect. "Roblox used to give out tickets to players everyday for free." When they can't stand anymore of me, they tell me it's nap time. I'm not tired, but i let them have their way. Closing my eyes, I hear their steps slowly fade away. The door gently shuts. I am alone.

Seven blocks away from a torch and you’d be absorbed by the darkness. they kept trying to correct me but I know minecraft like the back of my hand, and yet I’m bewildered when I play the game and see colors I don’t recognize. I see blocks and monsters and animals that I’ve never seen before. I see chunks of meat in the corner. I don’t understand. it was all so clear. I tried to find the game I played back in the day but I could never find it. All I have left is a game I don’t even recognize.

I'm 16 now, I've been playing minecraft since I was 9. I remember the first server I went on, I made lots of new friends who were online everyday. But I made my first real bestfriend on there. He introduced me to Undertale. Those years were the worst growing up, but he made them worth while and fun, he gave me a reason to get out of bed and want to live to see the next day. The server had to close, it was a small server so everyone knew each other and it was sad for all of us, but him and I moved to a different server and continued on from there. Then my computer stopped working. I couldn't get ahold of him. I cried endlessly, my depression and suicidal thoughts worsened. He was like a little brother to me, we were so close. Once I got a new computer, I was so excited to see him again. I saw he had been online a few days ago, no biggie, I'll just wait. I waited for days, then months. I found his discord through the website for the old shut down server. We talked, but I soon realized that he had moved on, he found another friend on a server. We last talked on september 15. "Night! Hope to talk to ya tomorrow!" ..He never responded after that. I then lost some of my friends that I've known since 3rd grade, I was almost as close to them as I was to him. My depression got so bad, I had attempted 4 times by then. Years have passed, more attempts, more friends. I'm now on medication for depression and anxiety and have been in an outpatient mental hospital twice. I've gotten better and my last attempt was in 2019. My dog died in a freak accident which was my fault so that caused me to spiral, but I'm still alive so that's a plus. Early 2020 I got into Danganronpa and while role playing, I met this really funny guy. We talked more and more, voice called, video called, played different games, hell he just shot me a message half way through typing this. He's my best friend, I don't know what i'd do without him. He's helped me without even knowing it. But I'm scared, I'm so scared he's going to forget about me, want nothing to do with me, and eventually leave without saying a word. He's super funny, witty, quick on his feet, fun, smart, and overall amazing. I'm not funny, a bit slow in the mind, and my sense of humor is strange and makes people uncomfortable. I almost forget to mention that the old server reopened. A lot is the same, but a lot is different. That would've been fine, but nobody is on. Ever. Not even the owner. I log on and just wander around, "This is where we used to fish" "This is where we used to battle to get into the cake room" and so on. I haven't shared any info about any of this before, so It's nice to get it off my chest. Nobody I've mentioned and nobody I know will find this comment. I don't care if people read this, I just want it out. I want my story out there. Of how Minecraft made my life so much better, and how it ruined it. There are always pros and cons.

Personally i don't find that the music convey to me fellings related to dementia or mental iliness in general, even if this may be the original song theme. For me it's a mixture of creepy and nostalgic vibes (the liminal space ambiance, like you wander in your city at 4am and there is nobody, the streets you know are empty, and maybe there is fog or snow which is unusual in your climate, or you are at your school/university/office or in some parking lot where it's empty) I feel this same liminal feeling when i join some of my olds minecraft singleplayer worlds. Nowadayw i only play multiplayer on a server with friends, but then, in my early days of Minecraft, it was only singleplayer on some creative or survival worlds. For me this is some nostalgia/liminal space song with maybe some subtle conforting yet creepy undertone (like maybe there is something watching you, something here, but more probably nothing and you are alone you don't know, you are not threatened, it's just... weird, unusual.

I remember my first world well, at least the first world I got very affectionate with. It was a Creative world that had a lot of holes everywhere, aswell as TNT Catapults. I also had my house which was a one-story bunker (because it was a flat world three blocks deep I was forced to do it in plain sight), surrounded by a one-block lava river just like an attempted bridge drawbar (pretty decent for a 10 year old). It also had a bedrock covered railway system (it looked like a tunnel) that connected to a town that had been surrounded by a wall of, also, bedrock. That town was one of my best experiences since I created a "nation" with a flag (horizontal with three stripes of purple, white and green / brown, with the face of a villager in the center). They had greenhouses in the crops (surrounded by glass), even a disco with a cake floor (for pogo) and a clock system with lights. Going back to the bunker, it was quite simple but for me it was wonderful. The base was made of bedrock as well as a wall that surrounded the bunker. On those walls I put golems (made of iron and snow), the seconds would melt often so I armed them frequently. Also try creeper-headed houses among other things. Oh and also an airport that was, along with the "nation-village", one of my most ambitious projects that took me several days, even though it was a gigantic one-room room, where you left and there was a big runway. Then the most recent world and the one I tried the most with was, again, a village surrounded by a cobblestone wall (but in survival mode), with a natural harbor and a huge gate. The wall was multi-tiered and usable. Finally, I decorated the corners a bit by putting stairs and tiles to give them a more "natural" look and not so square.

Here's a depressing thought. The electrical signals in your brain, the ones that a blink would miss.. They are *_You._* You do not exist, at least not for more than a second. Your mind tricks you into thinking that You remember the past things You did, but those people were not You. Neither was You from 3 seconds ago. You are gone, yet You are here. The signals in your mindscapes only last for a millisecond. Your memories are not physical things that stay in your head to be accessed at any time, your brain simply conjures it up when it is needed, misguiding You into believing that what You are experiencing now, You have experienced before, in the form of memories. you have experienced these, but *_You_* haven't. They were not You, yet they _were_ you. But still, not the You that you are now. You are new, but not for long. enjoy this existence while You have it, for it soon will all be.. _A Memory._ my first existential-dread-powered comment i'm part of the club now, lol

You're a trooper and a strong motherf*cker for managing to get as far as you have, i hope and wish that you can find the happines that you deserve soon enough. Keep on keeping on, because just by reading this all the way it shows that you actually care, and I know I'm just a random guy on the internet, but if i can take a couple minutes to write a comment caring about you, then everyone else that you may think that don't care can. Being new to minecraft is one hell of a unique experience. I joined back in 1.6.4, but didn't give survival a fair shake until the glorious 1.7 update came out. I can still remember distinctly the first world I truly played in. I was lucky enough to spawn next to a village. It was incredibly small, only really having 3-4 buildings. There was a single road, in the shape of an L. There was a blacksmith at the bottom of the L, one of those "huts" on the inside corner of the L, and on the outer long side of the L, there were (if I remember correctly) two larger building, a library, and I think the "butcher" (the building with a fenced in back yard) The Village was situated in a wide-open plains biome. The only other biome I remember for sure was the Jungle, which was about 80-100 blocks behind the village (you got a great view from the back of the library and butchers). There are only a few memories I have of this world. I made a small little quarry behind the village "hut" so that I could build my own village house, but out of stone. When digging that quarry, I found my first proper cave, and equipping my freshly made iron pick, I ventured down into the cave. At lava level, the cave began to spaghetti off into other caves, so the lava lake "room" was vast and interesting. I actually found my first Redstone there, although I didn't know what it did. Unfortunately, I didn't find any diamonds in that cave, and hoping to not get lost, I ended that adventure there, returning to the surface to finish my house. The only other memories I have of this world are of a quick playthrough in creative mode. I wanted to experiment with diving into lakes using the jungle trees and their vines. I was a bit disappointed to see the vines in the jungle hadn't grown yet though. I then experimented with eyes of ender, just to see where the stronghold was. The eyes led deep within the jungle and to a picturesque lake. Beneath that lake, surrounded entirely by jungle, was the stronghold. Sadly, this is all I remember of the world. It was on an old computer, that has since died. And even taking the old world files off the hard drive, I'm pretty sure young me deleted the world long ago. I got pretty tired of scrolling through so many world, so I purged most of my new worlds library, unknowingly killing many of my memories, and one of my favorite old worlds with it.

I remember once when I was little, I used to play Minecraft on my mother’s iPad back in 2011. The first world I made, was beautiful to me. It started out as a small house area, with an imaginary eating area that could be reached by a ladder. By the ladder were a few chests that I used to store stuff. Over the span of a few years, I had made so many different structures, being a bridge connecting from a large ravine-ish looking river structure, that connected to a watch tower with a huge flag next to it, a complex cave maze system to get me places, and a bigger house with a “roller coaster” on top of it. I had used nether reactors in creative mode and had activated them, spawning huge nether rack towers around my built structures. I continued to expand into more land and caves. It was all going great, till my sister let my cousin play on that world I had been working on. My cousin went into creative mode and flew out of bounds of my territory. After I had realized what he had done, I began frantically looking for any sign of what I knew as my territory. I began to cry because all of that work that I had put into that world was now gone. At this period in time I did not know of the existence of commands. I could have easily have used /gamerule keep inventory, then have used /kill to get myself back to my bed back at my territory. Out of frustration I ended up deleting the game, and all the data in it. The world that I once roamed in, was gone. I still think about that world, and all the beautiful memories and adventures I once had in it.

I remember when I was young and was lucky to get ahold of the alpha version of Minecraft. I played on my mother's old laptop and couldn't let it go, and from then on, I stuck with Minecraft for years. From the Alpha to the latest update now, I never stopped playing it, even back around 2015 or 2016 when it was considered cringe and outdated. I never let go. I met friends on servers, I made several worlds, built all kinds of structures, and yes, I blew up some villages in creative (who hasn't?). So many memories with my friends, family, and childhood were made because of this game. Now after 12 years, I'm older and have nothing left but this game. I'm dropping out of college, losing my best friends, and being cut off from my own family. I feel this game is my only memory from here on out, and this same broken track of songs from the game will be my future. Cold, distorted, and alone.

I also remember in a random world the first time I saw spiders during night. The red eyes scared me so much and I just had sand blocks and built a little 4x4 wall keeping the monsters out. I also remember the first time I made torches and was walking down a dark corridor and getting mad that they weren’t working and when my finger slipped and placed the torch I felt so stupid. I remember being in some jungle biome and it turned day, and I saw skeletons in trees just catching on fire and chasing me. The best part was going to school and talking to all my friends about our experiences and laughing and teaching each other different things. What a beautiful game.

This video for some reason allowed me to remember so many memories I forgot I had. I've always been bad at remembering stuff, but for some reason with this it was so clear and easy for me. At the time, it just felt like me messing around with friends, playing a silly nerdy cube game. Looking back, those are some of the most fond days of my life. I miss playing survival games after school with my best friends, I miss playing factions every night, raiding and looting other people's bases. I miss creating survival servers and building villages from scratch. Some people I used to play with I'm still great friends with, others not so much. I don't remember every detail, but I remember having a good time and being happy. I remember being able to hold my head up and smile, and not dread the day because I knew after the troubles of the day I was safe at home. I remember not having the pressures of the adult world, with my biggest concerns being if I had enough food to last the night, and if my armor durability was too low. Growing up in a world where you could do anything you want, I feel like I'm caged in the real world despite its greater opportunities and potential. In the real world I have what I need, I feel ok, I'm healthy, have friends, but for some reason I don't feel happy. It's hard for me to remember when I was happy. Does anyone else feel the same way? Maybe it's just growing up, but when I think back on Minecraft and that era of my life I remember having a sense of wonder in the world. Now I just feel lost, like every day is cloudy. I can't remember things, I can only look forward to the future. Perhaps this is the caveat to being a human. Your matter could've been anything in this universe but it became a human being, capable of all the imaginable wonders of life. The catch? Everything fades into the void of memory. Everything that was is gone, everything that is will be gone, and everything that will be will too be gone. Perhaps that's why we construct new universes for ourselves, so we can live more than one life in a single lifespan. Stay strong brothers. There are still memories to be made.

I see the player you mean. PLAYERNAME? Yes. Take care. It has reached a higher level now. It can read our thoughts. That doesn't matter. It thinks we are part of the game. I like this player. It played well. It did not give up. It is reading our thoughts as though they were words on a screen. That is how it chooses to imagine many things, when it is deep in the dream of a game. Words make a wonderful interface. Very flexible. And less terrifying than staring at the reality behind the screen. They used to hear voices. Before players could read. Back in the days when those who did not play called the players witches, and warlocks. And players dreamed they flew through the air, on sticks powered by demons. What did this player dream? This player dreamed of sunlight and trees. Of fire and water. It dreamed it created. And it dreamed it destroyed. It dreamed it hunted, and was hunted. It dreamed of shelter. Hah, the original interface. A million years old, and it still works. But what true structure did this player create, in the reality behind the screen? It worked, with a million others, to sculpt a true world in a fold of the [scrambled], and created a [scrambled] for [scrambled], in the [scrambled]. It cannot read that thought. No. It has not yet achieved the highest level. That, it must achieve in the long dream of life, not the short dream of a game. Does it know that we love it? That the universe is kind? Sometimes, through the noise of its thoughts, it hears the universe, yes. But there are times it is sad, in the long dream. It creates worlds that have no summer, and it shivers under a black sun, and it takes its sad creation for reality. To cure it of sorrow would destroy it. The sorrow is part of its own private task. We cannot interfere. Sometimes when they are deep in dreams, I want to tell them, they are building true worlds in reality. Sometimes I want to tell them of their importance to the universe. Sometimes, when they have not made a true connection in a while, I want to help them to speak the word they fear. It reads our thoughts. Sometimes I do not care. Sometimes I wish to tell them, this world you take for truth is merely [scrambled] and [scrambled], I wish to tell them that they are [scrambled] in the [scrambled]. They see so little of reality, in their long dream. And yet they play the game. But it would be so easy to tell them... Too strong for this dream. To tell them how to live is to prevent them living. I will not tell the player how to live. The player is growing restless. I will tell the player a story. But not the truth. No. A story that contains the truth safely, in a cage of words. Not the naked truth that can burn over any distance. Give it a body, again. Yes. Player... Use its name. PLAYERNAME. Player of games. Good. Take a breath, now. Take another. Feel air in your lungs. Let your limbs return. Yes, move your fingers. Have a body again, under gravity, in air. Respawn in the long dream. There you are. Your body touching the universe again at every point, as though you were separate things. As though we were separate things. Who are we? Once we were called the spirit of the mountain. Father sun, mother moon. Ancestral spirits, animal spirits. Jinn. Ghosts. The green man. Then gods, demons. Angels. Poltergeists. Aliens, extraterrestrials. Leptons, quarks. The words change. We do not change. We are the universe. We are everything you think isn't you. You are looking at us now, through your skin and your eyes. And why does the universe touch your skin, and throw light on you? To see you, player. To know you. And to be known. I shall tell you a story. Once upon a time, there was a player. The player was you, PLAYERNAME. Sometimes it thought itself human, on the thin crust of a spinning globe of molten rock. The ball of molten rock circled a ball of blazing gas that was three hundred and thirty thousand times more massive than it. They were so far apart that light took eight minutes to cross the gap. The light was information from a star, and it could burn your skin from a hundred and fifty million kilometres away. Sometimes the player dreamed it was a miner, on the surface of a world that was flat, and infinite. The sun was a square of white. The days were short; there was much to do; and death was a temporary inconvenience. Sometimes the player dreamed it was lost in a story. Sometimes the player dreamed it was other things, in other places. Sometimes these dreams were disturbing. Sometimes very beautiful indeed. Sometimes the player woke from one dream into another, then woke from that into a third. Sometimes the player dreamed it watched words on a screen. Let's go back. The atoms of the player were scattered in the grass, in the rivers, in the air, in the ground. A woman gathered the atoms; she drank and ate and inhaled; and the woman assembled the player, in her body. And the player awoke, from the warm, dark world of its mother's body, into the long dream. And the player was a new story, never told before, written in letters of DNA. And the player was a new program, never run before, generated by a sourcecode a billion years old. And the player was a new human, never alive before, made from nothing but milk and love. You are the player. The story. The program. The human. Made from nothing but milk and love. Let's go further back. The seven billion billion billion atoms of the player's body were created, long before this game, in the heart of a star. So the player, too, is information from a star. And the player moves through a story, which is a forest of information planted by a man called Julian, on a flat, infinite world created by a man called Markus, that exists inside a small, private world created by the player, who inhabits a universe created by... Shush. Sometimes the player created a small, private world that was soft and warm and simple. Sometimes hard, and cold, and complicated. Sometimes it built a model of the universe in its head; flecks of energy, moving through vast empty spaces. Sometimes it called those flecks "electrons" and "protons". Sometimes it called them "planets" and "stars". Sometimes it believed it was in a universe that was made of energy that was made of offs and ons; zeros and ones; lines of code. Sometimes it believed it was playing a game. Sometimes it believed it was reading words on a screen. You are the player, reading words... Shush... Sometimes the player read lines of code on a screen. Decoded them into words; decoded words into meaning; decoded meaning into feelings, emotions, theories, ideas, and the player started to breathe faster and deeper and realised it was alive, it was alive, those thousand deaths had not been real, the player was alive You. You. You are alive. and sometimes the player believed the universe had spoken to it through the sunlight that came through the shuffling leaves of the summer trees and sometimes the player believed the universe had spoken to it through the light that fell from the crisp night sky of winter, where a fleck of light in the corner of the player's eye might be a star a million times as massive as the sun, boiling its planets to plasma in order to be visible for a moment to the player, walking home at the far side of the universe, suddenly smelling food, almost at the familiar door, about to dream again and sometimes the player believed the universe had spoken to it through the zeros and ones, through the electricity of the world, through the scrolling words on a screen at the end of a dream and the universe said I love you and the universe said you have played the game well and the universe said everything you need is within you and the universe said you are stronger than you know and the universe said you are the daylight and the universe said you are the night and the universe said the darkness you fight is within you and the universe said the light you seek is within you and the universe said you are not alone and the universe said you are not separate from every other thing and the universe said you are the universe tasting itself, talking to itself, reading its own code and the universe said I love you because you are love. And the game was over and the player woke up from the dream. And the player began a new dream. And the player dreamed again, dreamed better. And the player was the universe. And the player was love. You are the player. Wake up.

6:23 "Trying to remember your first world", huh? It's funny, I still remember my first world to this day. Some of the details are obviously fuzzy since it was so long ago, but it was nice to remember. It was a Creative world, back when Minecraft's Demo was just a F2P version of the main game with some restrictions. I was using that demo, and my first world was notable for my very first build. It was a very poorly made small house, composed entirely of wooden planks, back when Oak Planks were the only type of plank in the game. It's dimensions were 3 or 4 blocks high, 3 blocks wide, and 5 blocks long, counting the blockspace the walls occupied. Very cramped, but I was a little kid back then. I didn't pay much attention to taking playersize into account for my structures unless neccesary. It's still something I fondly remember, especially a very specific image I can still recall accurately. It was of me standing outside my house, which was placed in the middle of the forest, looking at it and the poorly made fountain I built next to it using the same materials, as torches lit up the area under the night sky, proud of my work, even if it was way out of league compared to what I can make nowadays. The fact that "Sweden", the poster track for Minecraft, is the song distorted here really aids with the feeling that title gives off. It's a nostalgic song, most likely the first track one heard in the entire game, so of course it would represent your beginnings in this journey. Your first tools, your first house, your first diamond ore, your first trip to another dimension, your first attempt at the Ender Dragon, and so much more. This song has likely been with you throughout your entire journey. And look where we are now. We may have strayed from the original vision of the game, but that's not a bad thing, not at all! Even with all these new superfluous features, they are still used in a way that preserves what made the game last so long, and in turn, allowed "Sweden" to stay with you all these years. Even if you have aged to the point where your body deteriorates, even if those thoughts in your head are just burning memories, destined to fade away, that feeling of nostalgia and fondness that has accompanied you throughout your Minecraft journey will never, ever fade away completely. Even when there's nothing but static in your head, that oh so familiar melody of a soothing piano and ambience will continue to make itself known. It may be for a brief moment, but no memory is ever truly gone.

I remember back in 2015 I would play Minecraft and would complete the tutorial but never actually continue with the game. I was to scared of the dragon so I stayed in the small wooden house that was surrounded by cobblestone walls, and stairs the led to a big castle with the title “Minecraft” floating above it. I would walk in and make my Iron Golem and Snowman friends..then look through the castle to see all the pretty paintings and treasures that the old cobblestone walls held. Even the secret room that had a nether portal and a disc that read “disc 11”. I then played the disc thinking it would be lovely like the others but got scared and turned it off running back to the safety of my little shack. I miss going by the little pond and getting my first fish and even my first pair of leather boots that were practically ripped apart but I was too excited to not put them on and even dye them. I miss going to a near by village and saying hello to everyone in them. I miss going to a temple and being blown up and crying because I thought I couldn’t respond. I miss the feeling of being a kid again. I don’t want to think that 2015 was so long ago, I don’t want to think that I’m going to be 18 soon, I don’t like that I don’t have a relationship with my mother like I did back in 2015 when she would help me play on Minecraft and help kill zombies for me. I miss everything about it. Why did I have to grow up? Why can’t I stay a kid? Why did I have to grow up so fast? I just wanted to be a kid not having to worry about anything in the world. I just want to go back. I miss it. If you stayed to read this thank you and I hope I’m not the only one who misses this feeling.

I remember my first world. It was on the 5 day browser version that they let you play before buying the game. This was probably somewhere around 1.5, and certainly before 1.6. I was on the side of a snowy mountain. I gathered some wood, but nightfall descended quickly. I had very little food, and decided to hole up for the night. I found this little cave, with a one block gap window, that allowed me to see the sunset. I mined into the side of it, put up a door, and placed a few torches. I then looked out over the Spruce forest, scared, waiting for mobs to strike. What I hadn't realized, was that the back of my little alcove wasn't properly lit. A zombie appeared behind me, and since I had no experience in combat, the zombie quickly overtook me. After I had died, I realized what had happened, and laughed. This was 8 years ago. I cherish the time and experiences this game has given me. So many worlds lost on old computers and broken hard-drives. I cannot remember them all, but I don't need to.

Nighttime. You are riding your horse in the dark, open fields. You spot a river. You dismount and open your inventory You take out the leash to carry your horse across the river, but he is not there You look around. Surely he hasn't gone to far? You Frantically search around until you realize you went in the wrong direction. You look out into the distance, And you see the sllhouette of a village. the warm glow of the windows draws you towards them Suddenly, The village renders out into nothingess. Confused, you approach the village, but nothing is there. just an empty field You look up at the night sky. There are less stars than you remember. You look at your Hotbar. Your Iron sword looks wrong. It's... Stone? That can't be right. You open your inventory. You were sure you had more items. Where's all your loot? You look off into a line of trees in the distance. They start to render into nothingess. You Start running. What is happening to the world? The items in your hotbar become different. You look at the ground beneath you. It is starting to fade into emptiness. You look up at the moon. It too is fading Your memories are fading... You are fading. These were your last fading memories. Memories of an endless and blocky world where the limit is your imagination. But that doesn't matter. What matters is whether you enjoyed it or not And you sure as hell know you did. And it was worth it

Making me think about my past... My brother and I used to play Minecraft all the time together, life was simpler, you know? It’s crazy to realize how fast life goes by. He’s moving out of the house soon, and I’ll be ending high school and moving out, too. Just makes me wish I was young again. Although people may never see this, I hope somebody gets blessed with similar memories of their childhood.

Ah. This just made me think of my own past with Minecraft.. My brother is 5 years older than me. My sister is a year and a half older. And I have a twin. We all used to sit and play Minecraft for hours on end, never getting tired of it, always having something new to make. We would stay up all night building villages and kingdoms. I think those were the last good moments of bonding that we all shared. My brother is 21 now. He got kicked out of our house when he was 18. My older sister is 18, about to graduate high school. I still play Minecraft with my twin sometimes. But I really don't know if, or when, we'll all get to play Minecraft together again. I hope we can some day.

Similar feeling to flying out of the render distance of one of your builds in a flat world. You vaguely remember the way back, but once you start flying and don't find it, you're stuck in the middle of nowhere where everything looks the same. You *swear* you know what direction the build is, it was just this way- wasn't it? Hadn't you just come from that direction? How big was the build again?

I'll say, exploring the new caves in that Experimental 1.18 patch hits very different with this in the background. Caves alien to me, stretching on forever, into the unknown.
