You know what’s even worse? They started patching methods for modding on Xbox before this. So this was not only in the works for awhile, but they are actively trying to stop players from getting around it. It’s absolutely disgusting and I think notch should pull a George Lucas and try to buy his creation back
@zacvh
@zacvh 3 ай бұрын
I mean Minecraft is probably worth more as an actual ip now than when notch sold it so unless he’s some sort of investing genius I feel like he can’t buy it back. But Star Wars actually was losing money I’m pretty sure so it makes more sense for George Lucas to have the ability to buy it back even though I doubt that will ever happen either. But stuff like this where Microsoft is adding a new thing for them to monetize off of Minecraft does make it more valuable from the business perspective cuz they aren’t going to get that much from more game sales but they have a massive install base now they can push out micro transactions to

Notch doesn’t care about Minecraft he thought, and hoped it would just be a small little indie game but ever since a grew passed that he didn’t really care for it also, why are people idolizing notch all of a sudden? He has said some questionable things at the very least.

Thank you for giving my Add-Ons a try! Whether people agree with Add-Ons being free or monetized is certainly up for discussion but make no mistake, players have been annoyed with existing Marketplace and asking for this since the launch of the Marketplace so I'm glad Mojang has finally given me the opportunity to provide that to people who want it while also allowing me to keep making a living doing it. Also had to laugh with your printer struggles, should have seen it when prints failed half of the time and it got jammed...

There should be a way to allow anyone to make mods and allow anyone to post without a crappy UI or prerequisites. The fact that they were gatekeeping addons to a specific world was insane to begin with. This is a step in the right direction for sure and I don’t mind paying for these things as long as it’s properly handled by Mojang and the content is not plagiarized and shovelware itself. However I doubt anything will come with it as the Marketplace itself is a disaster. I’m sure it’ll become just as bad as the “one world only” Addons due to the insane copy and paste that has been done already. I also don’t get why they are gatekeeping the addons outside of the game itself either. I’m still upset that I have to use a realm and PC/Pocket Addition in order to get ANYTHING outside of the MP. Not to mention the willingness to get things on the MP as a modder depends on many things and is dampened due to the poor implementation of Marketplace and Copyright being so fickle in MP.

Also, this is bad for the community as well. it hurts the community because mods that are made when $ involved are usually ones made without passion or at least are copy and pasted. I don’t mind paying for mods in the slightest, I think modders need payment too but when you get down to how MP is and how badly it operates you cannot overlook the bad side of the pay for mods motto. Mojang is also gatekeeping free addons. They created a system that doesnt allow just anyone to post on all platforms. Further more, they also don’t allow the platforms, especially platforms like PlayStation or Switch, to get addons from other sources. In order to get other mods on anything you have to own Realms and BUY THE GAME AGAIN on PC or Mobile. The ONLY other option is to get mods from the MP which already dictates whether or not modders can post their products. This in itself hurts the modders as they cannot freely post what they want nor be held responsible for the bad product as there is so much wrong with MP already. The copyright, the poor handling of certain situations and much more is so scummy and cannot be overlooked. This is a step in the right direction, there just needs to be a medium between the two and Mojang needs to step up if they really want creativity to prosper on their Marketplace because as it stands, it’s shovelware and nothing more.

It seems silly to be mad at them selling the ability to add custom furniture and weapons to your world when they were already selling you the ability to have custom furniture and weapons, but only in one single isolated world where you just sit there and go "... Yep, that's a couch... Now what?" I mean, you can argue that these kinds of maps shouldn't even exist and the map specific add-ons should be used more for things like the Sonic map, but when these kinds of maps already exist, this new add-on feature is just giving already paying customers the value they were expecting to get from their weapons++ add-on instead of disappointing them with an isolated modded world with nothing to do in it

People being stolen form will suck, but the solution to that is for them to recreate their mods before they get copied. If the person isn't active anymore then someone else might as well recreate it if they won't do it themselves(I'd prefer the original creator to do it, but if they don't then it'd suck for console players to never get to experience their mod in Add-On form).

Lol, why are you acting like introducing a platform where you're forced to give money to contribute in 90% of the content is a win? Mojang isn't paying creators anything, Mojang is introducing a system where they could gain more money. There's literally no reason for us to even pay for video game content, are we also supposed to pay the people who create Mario Maker or Geometry Dash levels? Don't remember a creative game being a full time job but OK. Besides, Mojang allowing you to access a platform where 90% of stuff is stuff you need to pay for, but not allowing you to easily share your own addons (or any other custom content) for free, like on Java, be it with your friends or with the Internet, shows it all exists to give Mojang and their corporate friends more money.

If someone really wants those in the game (and clearly based on how many maps there are on the marketplace just to add those, people do), they don't have to pay for them at least.

This is still a good step forward considering that modding for Minecraft as is takes a lot of work to begin with. Allowing mod creators to get paid for those efforts is a very good thing. The fact that these add-ons can be used in any world is a step in the right direction considering the maps that came before it only allowed you to play in that world only. Furniture and Mob add-ons will make a lot more sense now. I really hope they can allow for more free add-ons in the marketplace though. It's possible that in order to get a certain experience from these add-ons, people might wind up paying 100$ if things aren't priced fairly, just to have the equivalent experience to that of a modpack. Otherwise, this is definitely a good thing for players that only have access to bedrock and not a PC.
