i am SO glad my parents never gave me a device (Ipod) until I was in 5th grade. I grew up watching Tom and Jerry, or Scooby Do on cartoon network for an hour a day. When I wasn't on the TV I was outside playing with the neighborhood kids for HOURS every single day. I'm sure many people had the same experience as me but the newer generation wouldn't understand.

I'll actually defend the idea of telling your story in the comments of a KZbin video instead of actually talking to someone around you about it. For me personally, there's a comforting anonymity to it. We're all random people to each other here, so there's at least less fear of judgment because the random people who might see your story don't have the expectations for you that your family or friends might. Personally, at a younger age when I developed a sexual addiction, I was too young to understand why it was wrong, so instead of listening to my parents, I went with my own judgement that I didn't see anything wrong with it, so I'll just get better at hiding it. I was always someone who wanted to know "why", but my parents never gave me that, and I was smart enough to figure out that saying "because I said so" isn't enough. My thought was, if you can't give me a reason why, then there's no reason why I should listen. So I didn't really trust my parents judgement a whole lot because they always just fell back on that non-answer. By the time I got older, it had almost just become a normal part of life, to just wait until it was time to go to bed and then just use my imagination to do this thing. It was only when I went without for 4 days and got super high strung and anxious that I realized this was a problem, but I never told anyone then because I never trusted anyone to withhold judgement. Going to a school counselor was like a sign of weakness and I was already the weird kid no one liked and had just started to maintain some classmates who would consistently talk to me. And the only outcome I saw with telling family was resentment and disappointment for doing this and basically lying for ten years. I only just now started to open up to a co-worker who had previously shown she actually cared about me when she was the only one who asked if I was okay when I was having a bad day. But yes, the anonymity of the comments section sometimes might be the only safe place people feel they have to unload all their burdens, especially with a pornography addiction because it's treated as this shameful, taboo thing to be hushed up and I've spent a long time just trying to convince myself I'm worthy of finding love after all I've done. There's comfort in the idea that your story is at least out there. Maybe someone will read it, maybe no one will. But at least it's out there and not just bottled up inside where you feel like you have no one to go to. I was always too afraid to tell my parents I had done anything wrong because I'd get severely yelled at and sometimes spanked with a spatula. There was no honor in owning up to your mistakes for me. Doing that was more like a death wish, even if it was an innocent mistake, like the time I accidentally came across an online game called Mario's Massacre where he's pretty much just going around shooting enemies instead of stepping on them, and I innocently asked what "massacray" meant. No gentle but firm warning to be careful what you play. Nope, simple question immediately incurred the wrath of the beast and I felt like I just wanted to run and hide. So I at least was brought up with ides that you couldn't go to an adult for help because they'd turn on you rather than help you, which was affirmed even more in school where the teachers and aides always took the side of the other kid over mine. Adults were not trustworthy people to me growing up because no one was ever on my side except the few friends I had.
