What spinoffs have Microsoft done with Bungie, Lionhead, Obsidian, and Rare, exactly? Obsidian in particular is doing great rn, and both Pentiment and Grounded were critically acclaimed, so not sure what you're talking about. A lot of the core mechanics of Legends really reminds me of an older PC RTS game, Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth, but one thing that game had over Legends is the campaign let you play as the "good guys" or the "bad guys". It would be so much fun if Legends campaign let you play on the piglins side!
@remor698 Жыл бұрын
Or indeed playing as any other faction at all. The very allrounder seeming overworld faction seems to be the only one you get, despite the lore and setup of the game being capable of supporting other factions like a defense based golem faction or an offense focussed monster faction. If this is true and there is really only the one, static faction playable, Minecraft Legends will be running into the issue of a lack of gameplay variety really quick, especially compared to other RTS games.

@@user-tzzglsstle585e38 say more about how bosses and mobs wouldn't fit on Minecraft
@user-tzzglsstle585e38 Жыл бұрын
@@leobetosouza I'd rather have them create their own mobs and bosses that are actually designed specifically for vanilla's lore, artstyle and most importantly gameplay. Most of the bosses in dungeons are too big and would have janky hitboxes, and have gimmicks that just wouldn't work well in vanilla since you can break and place blocks and move anywhere else (immediately destroying said gimmicks, it's almost as if dungeons and vanilla are completely different games with dungeons' bosses being clearly designed to be more RPG-esque), and most of the mobs in dungeons are just reskinned and stronger variants of another mobs anyway, there's very few actual unique mobs that does something different like Iceologers and Geomancers, even the most unique piglin variant is nothing more than a glorified witch. So if not for their gameplay; all we are left with that can be transported to vanilla are visual and designs, which itself is debatable, all it is eyecandy, no substance, and if there's anything that can be borrowed from dungeons; it's definitely not the artstyle that was made specifically with top-down view clarity on mind. At that point; It's better to just create their own mobs with actual consideration with others features in the game, rather than reusing assets while taking away each game's identity at the same time, as well as being called lazy by the "awesome" part of this community because of those reused assets. TL;DR: Let things that's specifically made and catered for something specific be specific to that something.

@@user-tzzglsstle585e38 so, I'm not saying to copy n paste things from the other games. But the ideas. A Jungle Abomination in vanilla MC would be so cool if well done :) New bosses in different biomes or structures is one thing that MC needs.
@remor698 Жыл бұрын
This gives some great insight into how this game will play out, at least as far as basic mechanics go. Well done explaining all of that and for showing off the various, informative menu tabs. I am pleasantly surprised by how important battling the piglins is, even in pvp, thanks to their exclusive resource, even if prismarine is the last thing I'd think to go to the piglins for. It's also interesting to see this game's particular approach to the tech tree, turning it entirely into a series of buildings, which you physically have to have in your world, presumably meaning they can be destroyed and in turn, your base must expand to fit all the upgrades. This being the replacement for what RTS games usually seem to tuck away into menus that are intangible to the enemies gives the game some really unique gameplay opportunities, especially in pvp. Different biomes having different resources is something I probably should have expected, but I am glad to see the devs having thought about giving the precedurally generated world a decent bit of influence on the flow of any given playthrough and match on that front, potentially even randomly banning several structures and units by virtue of a given biome simply not existing or being out of your reach. That certainly will shake up preplanned strategies. However, I still have my concerns about the game... For starters, the campaign looks like it is open world. In any other genre, this isn't a problem, but for RTS-style games like Minecraft Legends, this can quite easily be a death sentence for balance. That is because in an open world, the player can and will continually amount more and more resources from the world's functionally infinite pool. Even going straight from skirmish to skirmish, as long as the player wins, they will be snowballing under guarantee, which eventually turns a risky situation into just a situation where they can spam out units and structures to halt any possible enemy offense and chip away at enemy defenses. So I really hope, that the devs have figured out a solid solution for this problem or the campaign will be the by far worst part of the game. The other big concern I have, is in the lack of variety for any given conflict. Sure, the base building possibilities are fairly intricate, especially with the zone based upgrade buildings and the varying availability of resources, but the same cannot be said for the army units, which seem to have a total lack of individual flexibility besides just shuffling around the army composition. Like the hardest you seem to be able to play into any one unit is to just have a full squad of them following you around. You apparently can't directly upgrade any of them like you could in most other RTSs, so going on the offensive will mostly rely on active tactics and micromanagement rather than strategically powering up specific units. Moreover, it seems like you have access to only one faction, the overworld team. That means, you better hope you enjoy the aesthetics that come with it, as well as the allrounder playstyle, because you have no other options unlike most other RTS games. Plus, I don't see a way to swap out the player's gear, let alone upgrading what you can actively do in combat. Of course, this isn't Minecraft Dungeons, but at least some variety of hero units, not just cosmetically, seems like an RTS standard to me. Unless I am completely wrong with my worries here, Minecraft Legends has a solid shot at dying faster than Minecraft Dungeons has, which I'd find really sad for a concept as rich in potential as an RTS with an active player character in an alternate Minecraft universe.

You had me at 'its been compared to Pikmin'
@remor698 Жыл бұрын
Controlling the army and the unit variety certainly seems a lot like Pikmin. The problem is, that I believe Pikmin works well because of its variety in unique puzzle challenges and the fact, that you only have a select few locations to restock and swap around the composition of your units. In Minecraft Legends, on the other hand, spawners can seemingly be placed absolutely anywhere and every enemy base will be ultimately made up of the same components, so the aspects of variety and challenge seem to fall away here. That is unless I am missing something and there are multiple different factions.

This video showed me what I was looking to know and was supremely info heavy, I appreciate all the intel and I'm actually looking forward to this now. It is a blatant unrelated use of the minecraft ip but it seems it may be a decent game on its own. (Depending on how hard they try to force the genre to fit the minecraft ip)

The lore of this game is really cool. It makes me wish I enjoyed this type of game.

You like lore? I have a whole timeline that I crammed into several 1000 letter dicord messages.

This is very informative and useful for anyone interested in the game. I just can't get over the whole "nether evil, overworld good" premise though, it annoys me too much

I guess it's got that fairytale storybook vibe to it, they always have these cookie-cutter villains. They've at least done a good job of making the piglins lovably evil
