That was freaking hilarious. I still haven't watch most of Limited Life yet. I've only watched most of Grian, Scar and some of ZombieCleo's videos in the Series due to anxiety and depression sadly. But I did keep up with if I remember correctly I watched everyone's episodes for Double Life. I also watched at least half of everyone's 3rd life.

I want to bring some redemption to Double Life, since it's actually my favourite season. As you have pointed out many times before, the people in the Life series tend to gravitate to those they already know and are comfortable working with. This is a very understandable and human thing to do, but it also tend to create very predictable content. There is a reason why the Ren-Martyn storyline was so successful in 3rd Life. They took a chance and hung out with a stranger that first episode and it was so exciting for both of their audiences. No one knew what was going to come next, and it all ended up in a beautiful friendship. You said it yourself, Impulse, that the thing you remember most about Last Life was hanging out with the Brits, and I'm pretty sure that your audience agrees with you. Even if you felt awkward and out of place at first it was still the most interesting group to follow that season. Team BEST was really good too, but with much more predictable interactions, since everyone who were addicted to the Among Us Fridays knows that Skizz, Tango, Bdubs and Etho work well together. So, in Double Life you had no choice. It was decided for you who you were going to team up with, and I LOVED it. Between the seasons, when I get a craving for the Life series, I go back and re-watch the old seasons and I tend to gravitate towards specific POVs. The ones I have watched the most is the Etho-Joel and the Tango-Jimmy series of Double Life. They both start very awkward when they get paired, but then Etho and Joel start bonding over their love for mischief, and Tango and Jimmy developed this cool and derpy big brother-little brother relationship that just makes you smile. (Skizz, if you ever decide to watch any Double Life content, those are the ones I would pick) If you ever tune in to Jimmy's streams, anytime he reacts to Double Life fan content he still blurts out a "I miss Tango". Now in Limited Life everyone floated back to their comfort zones again, which was a little bit disappointing, but still expected. However, the vibes in the entire group was so much more relaxed. People from the different cliques could hang out and chat without the conversations feeling stilted or awkward. A lot of this is of course because you all have played together for four seasons, but I still feel that Double Life was the big ice breaker between the groups. TL:DR: Double Life blurred the lines between the cliques and that's why I think it's the best season.

this is so weird to hear that Double Life is considered the worst life series because people on reddit rate it so low, when on tumblr people went crazybonkers over it and i still see so much love and fan art coming from this love. people love the ranchers, there's not a day when i don't see someone talk about the ranchers!! Double Life gave us so many cool and unexpected teams, the fanfiction-y soulmates au in canon, and paired with the visuals of the red string of fate, it keeps producing very recognizable and cool fanart that probably only Scott, Martyn and Pearl see, because they're on tumblr with this more private and secluded part of the fandom.

I fully understand the reputation tumblr has earned among creators but my god it’s such an intense goldmine of fans and creativity, and I wish it was easier for creators to navigate it without accidentally overstepping their own boundaries because there’s so much there to be explored! I only just got into the life series and went over there and people are STILL making new art for double life and half of it is the most beautiful stuff I’ve ever seen.

24:30 I have been amazed at how Scar uses his avatar for theatrical effect for years now, but the moment that still haunts my dreams is from season 6 in the new village at the end of the Build Off. In Grian's POV Grian looks up at Scar standing at world height and it's just pure smug evil - shivers! It was so good!

The one that got me is the slow turn toward Grian, wagon horn noise, head drop and digging himself into a hole after accidentally exploding the charged creeper in Grian's magical menagerie. It's straight out of Looney Tunes and the first time I saw it I laughed so hard I cried.

Svar has scarily good control of his character. For example, Limited Life had a moment between Cleo and Etho where Cleo says a savage line "If you're going to be an absent father can you at leasr be absent." and Scar spins around and locks onto Cleo shook and it makes me laugh everytime. I disagree with the view that most people would rank double life the lowest. If the fan art is any type of measurement it was in the top 2. Double Life has some of the most heartfelt and poetic fanart ever. The linked hearts with the strings and everything.

Double Life was amazing because of how it mixed up alliances and the bound dynamic added so much. 3 and 4 are defo my faves. And if the rule f fan art applies I think Double Life is HUGELY popular with viewers. It was short....but it was intense!

personally I put third life as the lowest. not because its bad (dont think any of them are bad) but compared to what it is now, I think its very plain and the other seasons brought in much more interesting twists based on it and lead to much more interesting scenarios and stories as people got more familiar with the flow of things

The Clock Betrayal Incident lives on in infamy in our house. We watched bubbles first, and were “horrified”. Then watching Impulse, “I’m coming to save you” just made it a hundred times worse. And now to learn it was your clock to begin with! It took a day or so for me to get over what Bubbles did. And I guess it’s a most memorable Minecraft content moment, so good job on it.

This is what makes Impulse's strategy so worth it. Was it a sad, poignant way to go out? Yes. Was it deserved? Absolutely. That's what makes good storytelling. Skizz's arc is also very believable and fun, and you can see the progression of his comfort with interacting with the other members in real time that he was willing to sacrifice his series in a blaze of glory for them.

It's so funny that there's this perception of Double Life being the lowest ranked. I guess it depends on the part of the fandom you hang out in, but Double Life's drama level was just so intense, it's my favorite. There are still people making amazing fanart and animatics and writing fanfic of it. Limited Life definitely had broader appeal, though. I actually got my non-Minecrafty spouse to watch, and he really enjoyed it. I really hope there is another season, because this series is just soooo much fun! And hearing you talk about your experiences across the series has me wanting to go back and do a rewatch (with all my nonexistent free time).

Yeah, it really does matter what part of the fandom you interact with. I tend to enjoy Ranchers and Desert Duo fan content the most (plus some Flower Husbands when i get a craving for it), so before Limited Life I mostly saw stuff centered around 3rd Life and Double Life with some sprinkling of Last Life, and then i saw a lot of Limited Life stuff bc it's still very recent and it's pretty well liked. I actually started writing stuff for the Ranchers just before Limited Life started (nothing that I've posted bc I'm a perfectionist lol) and I've been doing that fairly often ever since whenever I get an idea, and of course I read a lot before i started writing

Me personally, after learning of 5AM pearl and the WITCH animatic, it’s made me love double life and put it at second. Where it used to be last, but I do want to say I watch mostly Grian POV, then in 3rd I’d say limited life, it’s new I love it, a lot, but then here’s my hot take, 4th is Thrid life, my reason is that the series was new and struggles with 1st in the series syndrome, but then my top 1 is Last life, so many great moments, has some many twists, the boogeyman, AHA, also Mumbo! Also I just remembered this, but for a long time I consider Scott to have won Double life, I didn’t like that because I wanted someone else, but now I’ve realized, pearl won. P.S. all the series are great, and I don’t hate 3rd life’s, it’s ending fight might be my favorite bc there still friends and it gives off Thai vibe of,”we have to do this, only 1 can win.” And then grain jumping off the cliff, while you can still feel that death of scar weighing on him. God I love how these story’s are told organically

My favourite parts of the Life series are: The A-Ha bit. Etho being "scared" of Cleo and placing blocks in front of her to keep her away, (3rd life i think). There are many more great bits but those are the 2 that stick out the most to me.

I love the life series and all the characters and people keep me hooked. The best part of everything is rarely anything is scripted and no series is the same. There’s no real reoccurring story and drama from past seasons. And each person has their own little character to ply that they can do anything with. It’s truly an amazing series and I can’t wait to see what else happens from this moment on :)

@@oklol7799 No single winner was in an alliance of more than 2 people (Grian/Scar, Scott/Pearl X2, Martyn/Scott). The duos are the way to go in the life series. The larger groups never do very good so i always hope my favs are in smaller duos/trios.

The shenanigans, interactions, battles, chaos and layout of Last Life and especially Limited Life were just the most entertaining for me personally. It was actually through watching a fan animatic of the life series that made me start watching the actual episodes. I’ve been out of the MCYT sphere since middle school, but now I’m in college and this series recaptured my excitement for MC. I’ve found so many new channels to watch because of it!

I remember being surprised by the somewhat negative reaction to Double Life when it first came out, so it’s awesome to see all the love for it here! IMO it not only had many incredibly iconic moments, but it’s also the series with the most complete series long story arc with 5am Pearl. Add in all the angst you can get out of the “soul bound” element and it’s no wonder it’s so popular in fan art. I wonder if people react to it differently now it’s complete because of that thematic strength… you can look back at it as a whole now and it has an emotional impact in a way that chaos and hijinx, although super fun to watch in the moment, don’t have.

I think what made the first and second season so great was the rising pressure through the season as people turned red. Last podcast yall talked about how you cant plan for the series because it all goes awry: but watching the plans go awry is so special. Having a mix hermits with a focus on building and others with a more strategic mind was great because by the time lines were drawn and everyone was fighting, the world/map felt lived in (like a good open world game). in later seasons it feels more like a traditional pvp series which imo losses some of the original magic. The first seasons feel like you are watching kingdoms rise and fall while later ones feel like there is no time for kindoms to rise as fighting for an episode of conflict is prioritized. arguably it makes each episode more shocking but imo brings down the stakes of the season as a whole(but was still thoroughly entertaining and i look forward to more) :)

I truly think Double, Limited, and Secret Life are no where near what 3rd and Last Life was. 3rd Life was amazing because it was unknown. There was no initial push of “we have to make enemies and alliances”. And then last life was just trying to be a better 3rd Life. Everything after was trying to be completely different, but last life was just trying to be better

I know if I were ranking them, I'd put double life as first. I was there for both 3rd and last life, but I wasn't really invested in them and both of them i only watched one or two povs at the time (i have since watched more but that's irrelevant). It was double life that made me fall in love with the series and made me want to go back and rewatch the previous two. Even if it was the shortest, it is 100% my favourite and I'm still attached to it nearly a year later

I know a lot of people didn't like Double Life because it didn't have the chaotic energy of Last Life, and wasn't as nostalgic as Third Life, but I love the interactions we got between soulmate pairs. Somehow, people who rarely interacted even in the Life Series were forced to be together, and somehow, all of the pairings just felt perfect for the characters and led to some amazing storylines! The chaotic energy of Etho and Joel and the wholesomeness of Jimmy and Tango was amazing, creators I've always loved coming together! Not to mention the hilarious fact Grian just refused to do another life series with Scar after Third life and was secret soulmates with BigB, the Idub's Power Couple (AKA Homewreckers lol), Cleo and Scott choosing not to be with their soulmates, 5am Pearl, and Martyn desperately trying to convince Cleo to come back; even Ren and BigB, who I don't really watch, just seem like a really good pair! Although I think Last Life might still be my favorite, I love all the Life Series. They all have interesting and wonderful stories that are so unique and distinct from one another. Also hearing you talk about your Double Life series makes me really want to recommend you watch the other POV's. I loved all of them, they had hilarious dynamics, as I mentioned above! I keep thinking of things to say as I watch this podcast! I also maybe think that Season 6 Demise was really the precursor to the Life Series in some ways. You have a limited number of lives (in this case one), and once you die, your skin color changes to gray/desaturated, and now your goal is to kill everyone else. Obviously there are some major differences, but it really seems like a beta Life Series, even if Grian doesn't cognitively realize that.

3:00 / 13:16 that was just in Limited Life Skizz lol. Memories from the deaths! Reds were the only hostility allowed (besides Boogeyman) until Limited Life made 2 changes that made deaths more often - yellows can kill greens, and killing gives you time, so kills are highly incentivized.

Cleo's use of phrases like "Like how about" just screams her teacher credentials. Scar's slow turn with that shifty look on his face is always hilarious (charged creeper blowing up Grian's mobagery on HC for one) and I think he's definitely got it down to great comedic effect. The Life series really does bring me such joy to watch. Every season of it has been fab fun. I really hope that in a future podcast we get to hear from Grian how the seed of the series first sprouted and what it takes to make each season of the series different from the previous. Also season review podcast for the next life series would be an absolute delight.

I will forever say Double Life was one of my favorite Life series. My only disappointment with it was that it ended so quickly lol (which totally made sense given the dynamic of that game) but that doesn't make me like it any less. Kinda made it more bittersweet. Also Skizz I hope you don't dial yourself back too much if there is another season. I think your level was perfect and not over the top. Honestly you kept team ties on point

Loved this episode, the life series is truly my favourite piece of Minecraft content I’ve ever seen. Impulse mentioned The Clock being his originally and that “nobody really picked up on that”, but I can promise we did!! I remember freaking out about it; it’s one of the many things about the life series that leaves me stunned it’s not scripted.

I gotta say Double Life was my favorite. I really love when people I admire, or are invested in, interact with each other especially when they usually don't. Like I love Double Life because it gave me Boat Boys and Ranchers. I didn't know I needed it but it just worked! Plus the drama??? God if 3rd Life was Survivor, Double Life would be like 90 Day Fiance or like that MTV show where they swap wives AND IM ALL FOR IT it was SO MUCH FUN (sorry skizz)

I LOVE Double Life! It really brought together previously establish duos as well as new ones and created a ton of fun dynamics. It’s honestly my 2nd favorite out of the life series (behind 3rd Life, the OG). Watching everyone be weary of their health and the chaos of it all was sooo much fun and was one of the biggest highlights of the summer of 2022 for sure. Can’t wait for the next season, keep it up!

even though the double life series was a bit short, it was really fun to watch all the pov's of finding eachothers soulmates, and watching all the dynamics form. would love to see it come back but maybe with double the hearts for each person or something so theres not as many deaths. love the life series so much, can't wait for the next one!

I got into Hermitcraft thanks to fanart of the Last Life series, because youtube threw me a recommendation to ChrisRin's "Curses" that they did for Last Life, and so I checked it out, because if someone makes that much effort for fanart, it's gotta be worth watching right, and what really hooked me with the Life series is that you get a lot of interactions between people, and each series is different because people pair/team up differently each time, so each time there's a different vibe that keeps it fresh.

My favorite animations were the two by Lemobread. He covered the final green hunt, from Tango's episode 4, I believe, and Skizz's final sacrifice. Both beautifully animated with amazing character design.

My personal favourite is Last Life and I genuinely think that a miracle would have to happen for it to get booted out of 1st place. I don't even know why but I just think it's the most entertaining thing ever. I primarily watch Scott(Smajor) but that season I branched out and watched Martyn, Joel and Lizzie as well as Scott.

Double life will always be my favorite even when new life series come, I still can't believe it wasn't scripted because of how much chemistry all the random soulmates ended up having and the improv story we got! Joel is my main pov every life and he lives for the drama rather than survival and I love it, I sometimes even forget that ultimately the life series is about who ends up winning 😅 It would be different if everyone normally played on the same server, but because it only happens in the life series I really treasure it and hopefully we will see even more teamups of people who usually don't interact with each other so much, it is fun when hermits and empires folk + skizz form mixed groups, and after several life series you can really see how the group of people are getting more comfortable with each other!

Have to say, Impulse taking on the Littlefinger persona in Season 1 was my FAVORITE. You were so great that season Impulse. More mayhem!!! And Skizz, you may have felt annoying in Limited Life being the leader of the group, but that is truly where you thrive and I think other players who perhaps don't have a game plan for the day truly appreciate your ideas and leadership. I'd love to see you team with Jimmy and Scar one day because you'd all be chaos and it would be fantastic! Impulse, you might not realize but some of your funniest and most chaotic moments happen when you're around Scott. You two teaming together could be a recipe for something crazy.

I always find it a bit strange when I hear people say Double Life is their least favorite season because it's my probably second favorite after the original 3rd Life. It just had a very distinct flavor, especially at the time, that I really liked. Like 3rd Life had multiple references to Game of Thrones, and thats pretty fitting. It felt like a war epic that grew in scope over time with huge battles, shifting alliances, and lines drawn in the sand. Double Life felt like a soap opera with relationship issues, secret soulmates, homewreckers, and bitter exes. I guess that's not everyone's cup of tea, but for me the best part of the series is seeing the types of relationships and bonds that get made and tested throughout each season, and Double Life was really conducive to that, allowing a whole bunch of different dynamics, whether it be a twist on a pair that we'd seen a bunch before or two people who may not have thought to pair up before being surprisingly compatible. It's something present in every season for sure, but Double Life really leaned into it in a way I thought worked. I do love all the seasons though.
