Actually, they were trying to be kind to Etho because it takes a lot of work editing things out. It's a sort of understood thing that while Etho /can/ edit things out, it's just nice if you can avoid saying things that he'll have to.

A million dislikes helps put activity on his channel, if you dislike his video then more people will see his channel, eventually people will stop disliking and the people that would never have seen his channel otherwise and liked it will stick around, in the end advertising like this does accomplish what he wants. the only way it wouldn't is if you only dislike the comment and not his videos.
