I talk about and play through Minecraft's PC Gamer Demo... I feel old.

This demo was actually the first time i played minecraft, though i was starting to get interested in minecraft a year before

PC Gamer demo hit so diffferent back then. It was my first time playing minecraft. You started on the simple view of the sea and a forest behind you, like ive never had such a satisfying spawn in Minecraft compared to that. Yea that spot is random but the position and all being there constantly felt special

actually it was changed by PCG. by default this seed spawns you deeper into the forest iirc. guess they thought the lake looked pretty (it does!)

I used to always build giant towers and call them “bunkers” because if you build high enough you can stop the demo from ending

When I was younger probably 12 years ago I played this demo all the time, where you put your house is where I always mined and put my house

I used to play this demo a lot back then when i was a kid. I cant remember exactly but if you restart the demo, your world is still saved on your PC except your inventory will be wiped. You can bypass this by putting items into a chest and restarting the demo and going back to your home and then pick up your stuff. Im not sure if you had to uninstall and reinstall the demo or if there was an option to restart it.

You had to open two windows of the demo, one of them playing the world, but paused, and the other one, on the home menu. Then you reset the demo world and then click back to game on the other window an wait for the error message. The time reset and you lost all ur inventory items, but not the world or anything stored in it.

I remember constantly replaying this after the timer ran out, each time trying something just for it all to disappear. I built a ship house, lived on top of the mountain, in the snow beyond the PC Gamer logo, in a tree, or even ventured far off into ocean from spawn to just get lost among the interesting islands out there. But in the end that little pond spot (3:29) was always my favorite place to carve out a home because it was my first pick, and its so tranquil. Thanks for bringing back these memories!!

3:02 It could be because of the minecraft essential handbook if you ever had that. It's how a lot of people got started with the game, and gave the advice to build into a cliffside.

When I was a kid I bypassed the timer (unknowingly) by installing an old seamless windows texture mod. Don't know how or why but it worked.

fun fact: if you create empty world, use dat editor and change the seed, then go to %appdata%/.minecraft/saves/Demo and delete the region folder (technically the generated world folder), you can pretty much play another seed!!!

I remember playing that too and it was fun! but i played the bedrock demo one, it has a pretty close villager, has pretty good stuff on chest and on the villager, good biomes and it was fun, it was kinda lovely but now it changed and i never seen this bedrock demo world ever again...

I played this game a lot, I thought it was normal Minecraft but then I found out it was another version of Minecraft 5 years later... I don't know how I had this version on the notebook, since it was my father who had installed the game but he already had the original Minecraft purchased, but honestly I loved her

Hey just wondering, how did you get it it play? When I downloaded it from the pc gamer article, it just opens txt file that says "Bad video card drivers!" And it won't launch. Did you have this error, and if you did, how did you fix it?

Iirc, this demo world is actually pretty small and if you try to boat away from your spawning island you'll slowly end up in the same place, idk if it's still like that or I was high as a kid(also there are only a limited amount of diamonds in this demo), there's also a glitch that resets the timer so you can play infinitely

haha, that's new! i don't recall it being limited. maybe you just got lost and travelled in circles. i misremembered a lot of things from back then too. for example, while i usually just built a house in the cliff on the opposite side of a lake from the spawnpoint, i sometimes explored, and i remember that on one exploration i found a natural bridge/arch over a river that had vines on it. i tried to find it again countless times, but i never succeeded - probably because vines were added 5 versions after the demo!

you can't speedrun pc gamer demo, because the end was added in version 1.0 but the pc gamer demo is based on version beta 1.3 =(

antvenom made a video about how older versions of minecraft wouldn't run on his PC until he did something specific. If you want to play old minecraft, you're better off using the betacraft launcher or just using an old PC.
