I knew that someday, somewhere, someone would make something like this. But this seriously deserves more views. Watching this later tonight, but just from that intro alone I know this is going to be awesome. I just wish I'd heard about it sooner!

12 years I've waited. I'd given up. I was but just starting secondary school. Glasses, acne, bowl cut, an old family laptop that could barely run MC at 30fps. I've now graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and have been working as an engineer for 2 years, going to get married soon, home owner soon. You guys really have put my inner child to rest. Thank you so much for all the effort by everyone, in front and behind the camera.

Man... your experience is like exactly why I wanted to make the video in the first place. Insane to think that there were tons of other young kids out there watching SOI like me, then we all grew up and still had this feeling of no resolution. Wishing you the best in future endeavors and I hope this helped with closure!

This is incredibly well done and faithful to the original. I'm glad there is still a lot of love for SOI after 10 years. I've always hoped and prayed their little teases over the years would lead to a continuation of such a good story. you really did well! keep it up friend!

I just rewatched the entire original series, and I have to say I enjoyed your version of the final moments of the story immensely. In a TL:DR format, my overall critique is that you managed to stay true to the spirit of SOI while adding your own twists and artistic liberties, and delivering a satisfying conclusion that allows us fans to get some form of closure. I'm not sure if the Yogscast themselves have seen this, but I hope they do someday because it shows that fans like myself are still passionate about the series and the impact it made on Minecraft SMPs and even Minecraft as a whole. Remember, these guys (along with PaulSoaresJr's Man vs Minecraft) pioneered the Minecraft SMP roleplay long before Dream SMP and Hermitcraft blew up the format into mainstream popularity. Now for the "essay": i) I LOVE how you guys told the story from the viewpoint of two new characters rather than trying to continue as Simon and Lewis, as this would have made the film feel forced. The Yogscast had a unique blend of comedy and drama that would have been impossible to imitate, even as a tribute. By being yourselves, there is a more natural banter between you two, and it adds a new dynamic with the other existing characters. That being said, I do like how you borrowed some aspects of Simon and Lewis' character, such as your tendencies to get distracted, and a level of "incompetence" that led to several characters dying. That's definitely a signature of the old Yogscast, and it reminds us of the story we are in without going into forced imitation. ii) The cinematography also feels authentic to the old series, such as the intro sequence to every location. I even loved how you started the film with an airship crash, which is a nice tribute to how the original SOI started. iii) I also love how you managed to incorporate the new additions to Minecraft since SOI's hiatus into the story and keep it feeling natural i.e. like it was part of the SOI world all along. For example, I particularly liked how you incorporated the Warden into the quest to save the lost dwarves in the mines. Even stylistic choices like the use of new blocks really breathe new life into a location without completely transforming the place into something unrecognizable. iv) At first, I wasn't sure of the fetch-quest style storytelling, where you have to accomplish tasks to advance a retelling of the SOI finale, but it's okay in this instance since as mentioned before, emulating Simon and Lewis' story beat for beat would not have worked. Instead, you get to go on adventures of your own, making it feel like a natural continuation of what came before. Telling the story this way also reminds me of how in some adventure games, you are given the option to complete an "epilogue" via side-quests to tie up loose ends in the story after finishing the main quest. These help to bring the world of a story to life, making it feel like a real place occupied with real people. v) The ending did hit me in the feels, as you guys got to "meet" Xephos and Honeydew themselves to say "Thanks guys". In a way, you were doing what all of us fans wanted to say to them. vi) My only major criticism is that Knight_Peculier's apparent revival from death wasn't explained much outside of him saying he recovered from a nightmare of the future. Since we didn't see Peculier's "death" from the heroes' point of view, our mind is left to fill the gaps as to what exactly happened. I assume the "nightmare vision" he was referring to is the same one Xephos and Honeydew had when they touched the map fragment, in which time froze, and someone pulled them through a portal into the future. I assume something similar happened to Peculier, and he was then ejected into a safer area, but it would have been nice to actually show that in the film.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this! As I read all that you wrote, it was nice to see someone catch onto a lot of the random little bits of symbolism/callbacks I tried to do to the best of my ability. Regarding the Peculier "Nightmare of the future" line, that was in reference to the unfinished cutscene called "Nightmare Awoken" that Lewis showed off in 2018 on a Jingle Jam stream. You should check it out if you haven't seen it! It shows the Sentinel waking up in a vision of the future that KP has whilst unconscious in lava. Lewis said from what he remembers, that cutscene was going to be at the start of the next episode, showing Peculier wake up from the lava in a room very similar to the one I showed in the video. Granted, even that cutscene doesn't give much of an explanation as to how Peculier survived. Regardless, without redoing that entire cutscene, I figured me having a line dedicated to it and treating it as canon would be a good approach. Hope that's a satisfying answer to some degree 😜 Thank you though for the kind words. You definitely understand the approach that I was going for in trying to make it feel like ANY FAN could've been the one on the adventure.

I’ve only watched about 10 minutes but I love this lol. The voices and feel really captured the nostalgia. Out of curiosity, why did you choose to not continue the story where it left off in the desert oasis?
@noahnator99.gaming2 ай бұрын
I'm glad to hear :D So if I can remember what I was thinking a couple years ago, I wanted to break the story up into the perspective of four old characters. I might have done it differently now, but back then I was unsure what would happen after the oasis, so my goal was just to get them to Icaria as quick as possible to meet up with Lysander. Then from there I could tell a story I felt confident would honor the original intent for the series. Hope that's a decent answer lol

It’s a somewhat janky replica made by the SOI discord members. I went around and modernized it, but there’s still quite a few minor inaccuracies because I didn’t use the best recreation available when I started to update it. The discord team has the most accurate recreation available on the discord server tho if you wanted to check it out!
