The Olympic surfing was in Tahiti because Tahiti is part of French Polynesia and so is technically part of France

9:32 Ian, that's an exceptionally rare Spanish term and i'm actually shook you know it! The actual word is "chones", the e is pronounced like in "earn" and it comes from "calzones" (panties) that tuns in "calchones" and there you get "chones". It's amazing you know that particular word cause it's super slangy lmao!

Ian's always been weirdly mexican culture savy, i think he said in an old video that his favorite mexican dish was enchiladas, with perfect pronunciation.

@@runicrow OMG I've told him on stream his spanish pronunciation is super good and he said he doesn't know why, because all the spanish he has studied was in shcool!

@@detectfevi He is from Southern California, I assume he has just knowingly or subconsciously picked up a lot of Spanish because of the high Latino population. It was even mentioned in a stream that one time he was pushed by big Mexican guy in school😅 I wish he elaborated on that story further😂

As for Steve's race or gender, Notch was very particular in the original character design to make all animals have both male and female traits. Most players don't even notice that there is no distinction between needing a male and female animal to get them to mate; all animals mate with all other animals because there are no sexes in minecraft. That was meant to extend to Steve. Notch has said he greatly regrets referring to the player character as Steve because the player model was designed to be ambiguous for gender and race. The model is a middle skin tone on the Fitzpatrick Scale (3 or 4) and it may or may not have some beard stubble (or is it dirt). In fact, the very original player character designs were very gendered and they had male and female designs, but ultimately Notch wanted to go with a non-gendered design for everything. I'm fairly certain this was for ease of programming and not for any political statement too. At any rate, Notch accidentally referred to the PC as "Steve" at some point, and name stuck immediately and he was stuck with the PC being a male. But he still kept Steve as racially ambiguous. So Steve is not black or white or anything else. Steve is exactly in the middle. At least, that was the original intention. There have since been other skin tones added that stick to the Fitzpatrick Scale to cover 1 through 6 (this is the same skin tone scale all skin colored emoji's use).

Really goes to show how fast gender identity politicized, because Notch is a poster child for transphobia nowadays, but as recent as 2010 he didn't care

30:24 I went to school with an olympic swimmer! I don't want to give too much information, but she qualified for the olympics and then was unable to go compete for some reason. The rumor was that she failed a drug test. She was a local legend for swimming though and there were many ridiculous stories involving her swimming around as her main method of transportation. She would hold her stuff in a bag above the water and just swim across town using the lakes and rivers. She was extremely nice too, one of the only "jocks" that was really nice.

ALSO following a line on the bottom of the pool and keeping your head straight until you need the breathe which ideally is every 3 strokes OR if you can go 5 helps so you arent tossing your head around so much (this is assuming you're doing freestyle) as you do it more and use proper technique and strengthen those muscles it will become easier and following a line on the bottom with your eyes will stop being necessary. :]

Love the podcast! Always do & appreciate your regular scheduling and learnt a lot about minecraft steve today. Here to respectfully disagree (not a meme) because I think the issue is actually important. I don't doubt there is corruption and rigging at the highest level of elite sport but the Olympics isn't free from that. All it takes is a minimally invasive cheek swab to protect the integrity and fairness of every female sport and the athletes' safety. The fact that contact sports at an Olympic level don't have this testing is a SHAMBLES at best. I also think the way media is turning the issue trans and is reinforcing the lie that men and women are somehow determined by their hormone levels is distracting and damaging. Without this test it is impossible to determine who's a woman, someone AFAB with a DSD, a trans woman, or a kid who was doped with testosterone. Or a man! Etc. Many countries do not allow the changing of sex marker on legal documents so I don't doubt that being AFAB and then essentially having a male puberty is a difficult path, and these individuals should not be witchhunted. But female sport is specifically there to exclude anyone with a male advantage and the Paris Olympics haven't upheld that. It's like they're pretending to be the best most inclusive Olympics for women ever but in reality .... in short, it ain't. Keep up the thought provoking debate fellas!! 🙏
