Nice thing about tiny islands in the middle of the ocean: you don't need a ton of torches to illuminate practically everywhere that a monster could spawn and reach you. So Naka's presently pretty safe. (And he's got good renewable food and good short-term food.) Personally, I want to hear him say, in all seriousness, "I made my new tools out of diamond to conserve sticks."

It's the little things that really show your caliber Naka. Like putting an echo in your voice when you were digging the shaft up. I also wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you had planned that exit into the middle of a lake on an island. Well done!

I thought a good part of what you wanted to get from the abandoned mine shaft was the mine cart tracks, you seemed to have left nearly all of it behind and not even picked up a stack. Also good luck finding/getting home. This would be a superb time to show off making and using a compass.

Oh man! That ending had me cracking up. You were lucky, though. An island in the middle of the ocean is better than JUST being in the middle of the ocean. And I was wondering when you were going to come to your senses. Going deeper into a cave, feeling around in the dark is a great way of getting loot, but will never lead you out to the surface. Just as I was thinking, "Yeah, lava layer is good for diamonds, bad for escape," you said it yourself.

At the end when the camera or whatever panned out, showing the little island you were on, I instantly thought of the left 4 dead music if you die at the hospital. Now it's stuck in my head.

My money is on that the tunnel originally either came out right underneath your house (which actually happened to me once... I can't remember if I laughed or screamed), or right next to where you actually entered the cave. Anyways, great Minecraft videos, Naka. Looking forward to more of them.

Nice video. On the bright side you shouldn't be all that far from home. And i guess tunneling out like that can be quicker, I tend to just wander following torches till i find the way I came in from.

On the other hand, you could have just stayed in that mineshaft forever, using the wood pilferred from the supports to replenish wood supplies and growing food using torches. But an island works too, I guess. :T

Fun thing, he can easily get back to his home by making a compass and a boat, he's got the iron, redstone and lumber. The question is, will he do that or do the 'fun way' of backtracking through the mines. I wonder what happened to the other guy though, did he follow him up there or was he swept away..?

@NakaTeleeli Blocking doesn't actually "block", but rather defends. It halves the damage you take, so is only really useful if you're fighting skeletons and have impeccable timing, or maybe against creepers if you're not good at fighting them (half the damage instead of taking them head on).

@Nymshi Yea it was a bit hammed up. If you wanna' get back to the surface from a cave you just find passages which lead up, you don't follow some water up then go right back down again.

(re: the description) I was expecting that you'd come out under the lava fall near where you started, leading to a slow-motion chase scene as you ran down the stairs with the lava following you. But, really, in your home (or similar nearby landmark) is not that unlikely, considering the fact that exploring underground doesn't take to take you very far in any particular direction.

Theoretically, you could of used that Creeper to blow up the spider webs. But your method worked better! Except for the spiders killing you. I've got to ask, where did it ACTUALLY let you out?
