This video is great! I am always looking for concepts of how to build and not block by block tutorials. The depth of history and concepts behind the arches was perfect!

Your videos on gothic architecture in Minecraft have been the most informative and best put together videos on gothic architecture I have been able to find, period. Thank you for putting these together.

I love the interior! But there are some things I would like to point out. 1. The blocks suggest that the vaulting is made of fan arches, which is not substantial for a standard roof like this, and perhaps only for a singular crossing. Besides, the centre of a fan arch wouldn't really be a flat surface. 2. The use of two pillars in the arcade corresponding to one arch in the clerestory means that the pillar in the centre of each arch needs to have a rib in the vaulting as well, and cannot be neglected. A good example of this is the vaulting in the Notre Dame. 3. You do need buttresses along the main clerestory as well, and not only for vertically supporting the flying buttresses. Putting a flying buttress directly against a flat clerestory wall will inevitably cause it to collapse inward, and therefore there must be a thick buttress there. 4. The apse and ambulatory might wanna be a bit more protruding, as you see in most northern european cathedrals. An example of this would be the cologne cathedral, which has a few pillars in the arcade for the choir before it gets to the apse. Otherwise, its a pretty great explanation of the gothic style! I'm quite perfectionistic, thus the comment, but its a great build for something so quick.
@shells12411 ай бұрын
Fair enough! Thanks for the comment and additional information! I never claimed to have a perfect understanding of architecture haha. I'm mostly self taught with books I find at the library. Having the clerestory be twice the size of the aisles is honestly for convenience for building in Minecraft. Otherwise you have to deal with some funny looking angles. But yes, they are a bit big and I acknowledge that. Good to know about the buttresses needed for the clerestory where the flying buttresses meet up as well. I honestly didn't know that and I will endeavor to add that to future builds. I did know about the apse needing to come out more. I excluded the choir. Poor choir. Thanks for the info! I'm always looking to improve my knowledge!

While technically possible, clone only does so much and is kind of a pain to use. It has a block limit that is depressingly low and you have to insert individual coordinates for everything. But yes. It is an option. Just not a great one.

This is why quarter size building blocks are needed, just for buildings. Otherwise buildings like this forts and castles always look of scale with everything else. I'm okay with the fill and clone command mind you clone has its moods. Must get up to speed with copy/ paste. Your good I'd be still looking at my first block scratching my head. Thanks.

Hello. First thing I want to say is that your "tada" sounds lovely. Second, if I understand correctly an astroid, aka four-sided star is made four quarters of a circle facing inside, so making those sealings isn't that hard if you know how circles are made.
@shells124 Жыл бұрын
You are correct! I sort of address that in my vault video actually. The four pointed star is made by circles radiating from the pillars holding up the vault.

For the arches and the roof i would for slaps. If the slap roof is not steep enough you can alternate between slaps and stairs. Using more stairs on the outer rings and more slaps in the middle should do it. XD but funny enough all stairs from bottom to top is what most churches did as well. But with 7:11 the stairs were not as steep as 1:1.
