A note on the fog effect: where you have a colour change, you don't need an air gap, so you can get more fog into less space. That said, if you're trying for a gradient, so you need some places to have all the same colour, I guess consistency is preferable.

Well, Whaddya know? You're absolutely right! Well, that'll pare down some of my stained glass windows in the future haha. But yeah, if you need all the layers to be the same color, that doesn't work the best. But good to know!

5:00 A cool thing regarding the gradients, which I learned in another video about beacons somewhere on YT: the gradients actually work like binary counters! If you want to create a gradient between two colours, with, let's say, 4 layers, you assign a binary 1 to one colour and a 0 to the other. Then, you start building 4-digit binary numbers with your colours of choice, starting with 0000 (4 blocks of the colour you assigned the 0 to), then 0001, 0010, 0011, 0100 etc., continuing the ascending binary pattern until you reach 1111. For 3 layers, you work with 3 digits, so you start at 000 and end at 111. With beacons, you don't have to put any air gaps between the layers, but for windows/wall transitions, you should use the gap to get the effect right.

I found a cool trick to hide some of the lighting in the frame if you're using darker blocks!! If you fill a cauldron with lava it emits the same amount of light as sea lanterns, but it still emits even if you block the top off! That way you can hide them pretty inconspicuously in the vertical sections of the frame while still getting the same amount of light :D

From what I can tell, castles, universities, and town halls built with Gothic architecture use the same concepts as a cathedral. Vaulted ceilings, flying buttress, stained glass windows, etc. I can try looking up specific differences for you if you'd like, but I probably won't make a video on it until I've finished covering the cathedral.

you might be looking for dark souls type structures. if you’ve ever played demon souls, dark souls, elden ring etc, these buildings would be more what you are looking for. but again, they look kind of like this^^^^

I was thinking for the Stonework, I'd probably use red nether brick, and some deep slate Walls, and Blackstone Stairs, going along with the traditional Vampire Gradient, of Red and Black. And the same with the Stained Glass Windows. I thought of doing the circular window in the Shape of an Egyptian Scarab Beetle. I'm not Very great at building statues, but I think a huge Goddess Statue (Whatever Goddess you are interested in building) in the middle of the floor in front of the big (Normally Circular) window. But this is just my idea to add to the interior decoration.

If you build a layerd window the colors have a binary gradient as mentioned in the comments already. Making the "frame" between the outside and middle glas with redstone lamps, could work nice. If it's too bright you can dimm them with trap doors. Bamboo and birch should work fine. XD not really gothic but also interessting you could build one line of observers upwards, one observer facing the line of observers and the red dot facing a redstone lantern. Now you could hide a simple redstone clock underneath the pillar and voila you have a gothic-disco light show.

This is the first time I heard of such a special matte treatment method. I never got the same information from other architects. At first, I just used Google to find the video of your spiral staircase for the purpose of making a Sagrada Familia (Barcelona's Natural Wonder) huge details, but I saw With your final forest cathedral, I thought I'd first try to build a gothic cathedral entirely by myself using the techniques I learned here. It's very impressive.

Man tell me about thickness. I just finished doing the glass part of a massive build. It was 9 shulker boxes of glass per layer of glass. Can't tell you how happy I am to be done with that part. Honestly don't know what was worse. Doing the glass or doing the initial terraforming so I had a large enough flat place to build.

Love this! If I may, could I ask about the spires on cathedrals and what purpose they may serve? I've seen some minecrafters build them as towers with functional rooms.

Thanks for asking! I'll probably do a video on spires in the future. But to answer your question, spires are mostly used as decoration since they added height to the church and symbolized the saints aspiring towards the heavens and reaching up towards God. I think that any rooms attached to them were usually attics, but I'm honestly not sure and will have to research more on the subject. The only exception that I know of would be the bell towers which housed the bells. I know when I'm building in survival mode, I usually use the attic and space under the spires as my storage areas and functional sections of the base that don't really belong in the cathedral proper.

Alas, cathedrals and churches don't use big windows like this that cover an entire wall. I think real life physics would have made a big window like this impossible at the time of the gothic era. That shouldn't dissuade you from putting one in if you want to anyway. This is Minecraft after all. The place I would put these big windows is on the north or south entrance of the cathedral. Most traditional cathedrals are shaped like a cross and are oriented where the main entrance and bell towers (bottom of the cross) are on the western side of the building and the top of the cross is facing to the east. The smaller branches to either side of the cross face north and south and usually have smaller entrances there. But you could forgo the entrances and have giant windows there instead. Or, if you want the window to be centralized in your build, you can have the window on the eastern wall behind the apse. That area is usually rounded with an ambulatory, but some can be flat walls, especially if you don't want to deal with circles.

The roof or the vault? I have two videos out already talking about ceiling vaults. The roof itself is pretty boring. Not sure what to talk about there, really. Or are you referring to the flying buttresses? Sorry. I'm asking because I genuinely want to make videos covering all you would need to know to design a cathedral. I just didn't do anything special for the actual roof of this build so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

@@THESNAKE_666 ah, yeah, some of the issue is that I'm not the best at building roofs. I do have something I need to explain that wasn't in my first video that I incorporated in the rest of my videos that will probably help though. There's a piece that goes between the lower arches and the upper stained glass windows called a triforium that is a gap bridger so you can have more of a peaked roof over the smaller arches instead of just a flat thing. The triforium looks like a bunch of small pillars or arches from the inside of the cathedral. Then the roof line goes from the top of your arch up to the top of the triforium. I can try to explain more in a future video. Hopefully that helps.

Can you do some tutorials for Vampire Gothic builds? I really want to build a Cool Vampire Castle Map, and Craft an Epic Storyline to go with it, sort of like an Adventure Map.

I've pretty well laid out all the basic tools you would need to make any Gothic build, vampire castle or otherwise. You don't have to stick to the cathedral floor plan. And since Gothic vampire castles are a thing of fantasy, there is no set layout or design for them so you can build it however you want. All you need to do to make it Gothic is incorporate Gothic arches and vaults. Have fun building!

How do you get the borderless/seamless/connected glass within vanilla Minecraft? I downloaded the World linked to here but, not matter what I try, short of using Optifine I cannot get the seamless glass look. The borders take away from the effect. Super curious; using Java, 1.19.4

That's not a stupid question. In vanilla Minecraft, you unfortunately can't. I have optifine downloaded that makes the glass textures connected.
