Considering that this video is 9 years old now, it still produces a beautiful ship! I've made a couple upgrades like changing the orientation of some of the logs, adding a pattern on the sail, and making the ship's body out of both dark and normal oak wood. I like how after Update Aquatic you can put stairs and slabs under the water without it creating weird air pockets, so that makes the design look even nicer than it would have when this tutorial first came out.

Want your ship to look more realistic? don't be afraid to use different colors of planks. I used dark oak for the underwater section because it make the wood look like it was waterlogged.

It's 2022 and this tutorial is still helpful, thank you. For anyone wondering how to get the water out from below deck, once you've completed the underwater portion pick a different color plank (I used acacia) than what you are building with, you could even use wool or stone. Just pick something that visually stands out from your construction materials. Use that to fill in all of the water filled space below the deck line. One you've filled up all the spaces you can destroy those pieces and your boat should be free of water.

Tough to do in survival mode, so I went without all of the upside down stairs but the ship still looks great! I'll probably add some microblocking details after a while, if I have some free time on my hands. I used this tutorial a while ago in creative on my vanilla world and I went into all the detail and I love it. Thank you very much for posting this!

I've got the boat built, and as for the upside down stairs in the water, I like the running water effect. If you want to give the front sail a moving effect, running water simply adds to it. Just thought I'd throw out my opinion there for you, Madnes64.

It is small, but like said by many others, it is meant to be a trade ship. But, if you want cannons, you can enlarge it easily to your liking.
