For all those building this in 1.13 (PC), you may get stuck halfway up or right before you make it to the top. I've always found that if you lower your render distance and look straight up while ascending, you should be able to get up just fine. You can also consider getting rid of the top two pistons over the obsidian altogether, without even removing any redstone. That worked for me, but you can experiment with or tweak your design however you'd like. Also, thanks Tssykx, this is my favorite elevator design so far.

Works great in 1.13.1! I did a smaller half sized one. When going up, be sure to stand perfectly in between the two floor blocks. Otherwise you will get caught in the machine.

So for people who are not going to the top, it's because of the game not processing your coordinates properly. However placing a minecart aligning it in the middle is a good solution and will work on servers, since your coordinates vary yet the coordinates of the minecart will always be known by the singleplayer/multiplayer world. So even with my shitty potatoe laptop either or crappy server connection, I was able to use this nostalgia elevator =D, Notes: shift asap when on top, or, make a seperate catching system, You dont need the minecart to go down, unless you want style ;)

ex gaming you should be thankful instead of complaining that he took his time to make this tutorial. also, the texture pack is what he preferred as we all have different opinions. second, you can slow the speed down, pause the video, or rewind it. this is a youtube video. last, no talking is okay and doesn't matter in any way with the building speed. so if you're going to complain i dare you to go make a better tutorial.

Hey! Can I ask a question? I built this elevator in my super big red stone world awhile ago. The problem is that all applications were deleted on my computer. I redownloaded Minecraft and my worlds were gone. This was my favorite build because it was so fun, but now when I try it my top piston won't retract back in. I saw other people with this problem but I suck at redstone so I can't understand what they say to resolve this issue! Pls help me!

On the side with that piston, extend the torch tower by two more blocks. You can see me doing it at 4:00. I use that part for the top two pistons that push you out, but it also delays the sticky piston below so that it's able to retract the normal piston. And the sticky piston on the other side doesn't need this tweak, since it doesn't extend a piston, but a normal block. You can see at 6:00 how the first extended block on the right isn't a piston block, but a normal wool block.

I figured it out and finally got it to work. It wasn’t a lag problem, it was the fact that i needed to add redtone torches to the very top piston. I am working in 1.12.2 btw. Thx for the tutorial.

Yep, that's supposed to happen. As one upwards-facing piston pushes you up, at the same time, the very next upwards piston (that is going to be the one to push you up next) is being pushed into position by its dedicated sticky piston. Therefore, its line of travel intersects with your hitbox, and as a result, you're being pushed forward. This is why I've added the glass, since that mitigates this effect, assuming your client can properly handle the hitbox interactions instead of making you stuck inside the pistons. Could this be why yours is failing? Did you remember to include the glass?

Tip: Instead of using obsidian, you can use barrier blocks which are invisible unless you hold one in your hands. You can only get the barrier blocks with cheats enabled. The command is /give [PlayerUsername] barrier

I think that using pressure plates instead of button is a better idea, you can also create a piston door or iron door that opens when "the elevator arrives" so there's no safety regulations broken

I would suggest that you get a microphone, but I really don't think you need one. You're very good at making videos without them, and often when I see a redstone video and the person is just saying "block up like this, redstone here, torches here, here, and here" etc. it makes me want to go crazy. Guys the outdated version still works but bugs!but in this build it still work but bugs too because of so many redstone and for those who ask if this work on MCPE, my answer is yes! It works on all versions from 1.7.10 onward. Lots of people tell me that it's broken, but I test it each time and it still works, so the issue is most likely performance-related.

Well, I made it into a sort of working multi-level, with the same 1.7 tech, if anyone's interested. I basically just put double doors with one side open into the two in between levels, so I can get out there during descent if I want to, but I dont necessarily get ejected. Also connected a button on these levels to the main activating circuit as a calling function. It's a bit janky, but functional nevertheless.Might just be the most compact piston elevator without using observers, which is what I was interested in.

Same problem, using vanilla and current release, built in survival, i fall through the pistons after the first 2 or 3 which is a damn shame after i built it to 100 blocks high. I checked it, repeatedly to make sure i hadnt missed anything and it seems the pistons move too fastand doesnt allow an extra tick or so for the player to be fully pushed up before the next piston activates. If you could throttle each piston by using a repeater might solve the problem, will have a look and work on it tonight. Speed is one thing but working is another. Good video though and gives food for thought on designs.

I followed this exact to how you did minus the height of yours. For whatever reason the top two pistons above the obsidian that push you out do not function correctly. The top left always pushes you out while the right doesnt move ever. When descending the top left again pushes you out so you cant even descend. In your video when you ascend both of these pistons push out together, in your video when you descend neither of them activate. im not sure why this is happening it appears to be the redstone wire right next to the button can some how power the obsidian and the piston above it. Im not understanding why this is happening and is very frustrating.

spawn142001 In my video the redstone dust that's next to the obsidian powers it, but the obsidian itself can't power the piston above it, since it's not touching it. Are you sure you made it exactly as I did? Because there's no way that piston can be powered like that. When ascending, the right piston activates only if you include the 2 blocks I placed at 4:06. It might help if you upload a screenshot of the the elevator you made. (take a screenshot and upload it to any image upload website that doesn't require registration you can find, and then give me a link for it)

The elevator is extremely unreliable sadly. I've only gotten it to work a few times even when I turn my simulation and render distances as low as they can go. I just think it's too fast for our server as the rider will often fall through the pistons at random heights. Is there a way to slow down the vertical speed? I think that would fix it.

One can devise a circuit instead of the regular zig-zag torch tower that would use repeaters. Basically, instead of leading a torch away from the piston and then another one back to the next piston above it, one first leads a torch away from a given piston, then a repeater to the side, THEN a second torch, then returns from the side using another repeater, and straight into the next piston. If that makes sense, that is.

This design is supposed to be very fast, but you can try minimizing the risk of lag (which is what causes this) by lowering your render distance, installing Optifine, etc.

Any idea why only the first sticky piston will not extend when I hit the button? The rest of the elevator works fine for going up but the first sticky piston will not extend when I hit the button meaning the first upward piston that is not the one being stood on when hitting the button will not extend out of the back wall to push me upward. So I've had some issues with this build. When I press the top button only the top piston is being pushed out and no other block. When I press the bottom button I only get up halfway before I'm being pushed into a wall. I'm fairly sure I've followed the instructions properly and for some issues that I have stumbled upon I've looked into the comment section to try to fix (e.g. fixed render distance, looked up when I'm being transported, checked if I have the right version of the game etc.). I still can't get it to work :/

The top button wiring should be trivial, you must have made a mistake somewhere. Replace the button with a lever, turn it on and see where the signal fails to pass. As for the bottom button and getting stuck halfway through it, that's truly just a performance issue and there's not much I can do to help it.

Does not work on the xbox one, i just seem to glitch out! any advice would be great from fellow console players

Make a small pulse extender that extends the pulse by 2 ticks and apply that to all of the pistons with their previous redstone
