Great stuff! This is one of the earlier examples of Minecraft theorizing. It was one of the inspirations for the Deep Dive series, as well as MatPat's theories. Pretty cool to revisit this and see how in some ways it laid the groundwork for my KZbin channel.

I wonder if the reason piglins and hoglins get turned into zombies when they enter the overworld has something to do with zombification being a sort of pathogen. Because it’s a foreign disease and exists in large quantities in the overworld, it easily turns them into zombies. The reason villagers don’t turn so easily is because they have a certain level of immunity, and are only in danger of the pathogen if it enters directly into the bloodstream. Maybe that’s what happened to all of the humans, being all turned into various forms of undead due to a lack of immunity, and the ones who had some level of immunity gave rise to villagers and illagers. This may actually be a huge problem for the piglins, as some of the pathogen made its way into the nether. It would explain why piglins avoid zombie piglins, because they might fear catching the disease. It also may explain the bastion remnants. Perhaps the disease has been ravaging their civilization for years, leading to the slow decay of their society and, as a result, their precious bastions. Lots of stuff I know but I’m just spit balling.

It could be a fungal species. Heat kills most fungi, so it has a much easier time in the overworld where temperatures can drop during the night. The nether has many species of fungi that are specifically adapted to constant high temperatures, so perhaps the overworld's plague is out-competed. In my mind that also implies that the zombie-fungus can survive and thrive with or without living hosts, perhaps in soil or stone, since zombies arise seemingly from nothing in the overworld.

I really like this video, and something to point out is that Dungeons is canon, and Dungeons has a ton of quasi-lore. As creator of the Dungeons-related portion of the wiki, I try to mention this without going too far into opinion-based theories but it's interesting to think about. When the Orb of Dominance creates a 'body' for itself (i.e. the heart of ender and jungle abomination), it always has enderman eyes, and all the plant-based monsters it made have purple glowing streaks running through them, suggesting the Orb is from or relates to the End. And because of that, the Illagers may even worship the Ender Dragon like the Endermen do (which is why there's end-related stuff everywhere in Highblock Castle, the Arch-Illager's home). Many items have lore of their own, like how Heartstealer (I could be remembering the item name wrong) was given to the general who conquered Squid Coast after his victory, suggesting he was killed at some point (because it would be embarrassing to lose a gift like that) In fact, about Highblock Castle, some item descriptions suggest there's a prison there that we never get to explore called Highblock Keep. There was apparently an Illager there who would use the Truthseeker sword (the long soul knife) for interrogations, and there was a jailor who was known as the "terror of Highblock Keep".

Another interesting link is that all magic draws back to the soul in some way. - All potions require an Awkward potion, which can only be brewed from Nether Wart, which only grows on Soul Sand. Interestingly, a Wart is usually something that grows on animals, not plants, meaning it may not be a plant at all, but rather some sort of organism or weird hybrid. You can't bone meal it either, like you can all other crops. So perhaps nether warts are an artificial lifeform that is capable of drawing and storing the energy from the souls trapped in soul sand, which is what gives all potions their magic. - Enchanting requires experience, which is drained from the player - but experience doesn't just passively generate, meaning it's not something like memories or thoughts or whatever, but rather something more ethereal. Another interesting aspect is that experience orbs burn in lava and fire, meaning they're physical objects that actually exist. You get experience from acts of change, by altering the world in an irreversible way - smelted ores cannot be unsmelted, slain mobs cannot be unslain, coal cannot be unmined, etc etc. Considering the fact that it's some form of energy and it does not appear in your inventory leads me to believe that experience is stored in the soul. - Ender Pearls hurt you when thrown, but why? Chorus fruit doesn't, so why would a pearl? I think it's a trade-off for the magic that went into enchanting the pearl, plus the fact that you, as a water-based lifeform, aren't fully compatible with the kind of teleportation the pearls perform. So it draws on your health during the act of teleportation, siphoning away a chunk of your health to fuel itself. - The color of both the Totem of Undying's eyes and its particles is 100% the same as the color of experience orbs and the experience bar. - The Witch's hat has a gem of that same color on it. - Beacons require a Nether Star, which needs a Wither, which is summoned with Soul Sand. This is too consistent to not be intentional, imo. But I wonder if it goes deeper than that, if there's more to it than just "magic comes from the soul".

I believe they're a third party who disbanded from villages of their own accord, or were kicked out. Either way they're motivated to work in the swamps due to access to rare resources like slime and difficult terrain to traverse. Then pillagers came along, struck a deal with them to help in raiding villages. However the witches can't bring themselves to personally harm another villager, only help the pillagers do it themselves.

11:14 I always knew chickens were up to something. When I was younger, playing in beta 1.7, I was too scared of the monsters in minecraft, so I only played in peaceful. I still managed to find ways to though. One time after setting up a little base and even finding my first diamonds, I was investigating a lava cave near the surface. I dropped down to a block in the cave with lava all around it to get a better look, and I thought it was pretty cool. All of a sudden, a chicken stepped down onto the block I was on. I turned around and looked at it, and before I could do anything else, it pushed me into the lava, killing me. At this time I had a habit of wandering far from spawn and I didn't understand that you had to sleep in a bed to set your spawn, so I never found my base again. Damn chicken...

@kanyenortheast3546
@kanyenortheast3546 3 жыл бұрын
@@greysoncrowe5196 But why did they go extinct? I have a hypothesis about that. What if they, as a byproduct of eating lava, made netherite? It'd explain why they're immune to lava, and why they went extinct, because they were hunted for their netherite. Their slaughter in masses probably created the Soul Sand Valley, the skeletons from those who died hunting them and the ghasts being the ghosts of these strider whales. It'd also explain why the only netherite we find is "ancient" debris under lakes of lava, because it's remnants of the civilization that used netherite and hunted the strider whales. Edit: apparently ghasts aren’t undead. That throws a wrench in this theory.

That begs another question: What are ghasts? They're constantly crying if the sounds and expressions are anything to go by. They drop their tears upon death. They live in the nether, whether or not it was their natural home. They are also immune to fire. They attack the player on sight, and only the player, with an explosive fireball that is too weak to destroy stone based blocks. I have absolutely nothing on what they could be, but perhaps maybe being from the overworld, and possibly being some sort of gaurdian/protector type beings. Maybe that were the world's version of angels or something, and that's why they are not only powerful, but their tears have healing capabilities. Perhaps they knew healing magic? If this is true though, how did they wind up in the Nether? Were they banished there? Or did they flee from humanity? Perhaps humans, as they advanced, did what they always do and ran them off, which would explain why players are attacked on sight. The theories go far, but we'll never get definite answers.

Personal Quasi-Lore Theory: Dragons existed in both the Overworld and Nether many years ago. This could explain why the Red Dragon was never added to the game. Proof of their existence could be the large skeletons of creatures found in the Soul Sand Valleys, and at rare times deep in caves. Maybe they were hunted to extinction by the ancient race of humans. The last survivor of the Red Dragons may have hid away and hybernated for eons after, only to wake up with the Overworld completely gone, with only few pieces of debris floating around the void as the End dimension. The Red Dragon would adapt to the new enviornment, and turn into the Ender Dragon. The reason it may attack the player could be because it still hates for what our kind did to hers. P.S. Great video. I never would've thought as Quasi-Lore being the word to describe the story of minecraft, and I loved the addtion of mods in your video to tell your ideas. Keep up the great work.

When you suggested the potential recipe for totems of undying, I wondered why soul sand wasn't a part of the recipe until I realized that soul sand and soul soil are usually interpreted negatively and are potentially different from the soul energy you collect in mc dungeons. They pull you down into them and slow your movement. They are used to create the wither. Not to mention the fact that piglins run away from any form of soul fire. Probably due to them knowing that some form of soul sand is in it and they know the true natures of it. This could also explain the existence of the soul speed enchantment. Piglins hate soul sand so much, they made an enchantment that specifically repels the properties of soul sand, hence why you move faster when walking on it with the enchantment. The only positive thing soul sand is used for is in water elevators. And since water doesn't exist in the nether, Piglins have all the more reason to despise soul sand.

The Deep Dark cities are rather lovecraftian and the Chiselled Deepslate suggests the Wardens were around during the cities hay day and maybe even before Many Chiselled blocks are like that. N Stone brick = Eye of Ender Sand = Creeper and the desert temple Red sand = Wither Quartz= Guardian Black stone = Piglins Nether brick = Wither Skeleton ( a hint to the Wither?) Deep slate = Warden Clearly, the ancient builders established bases here, made potions, experimented with magic/XP Hence why all these built structures are tied to magic and the chiselled blocks are some of the last evidence of the ancient builders and their influence on species they created like the piglins (their miners of Debris?) or influenced like villagers who are protected by the Iron golems. Perhaps seeing the similarities between villagers and the builders. The pillagers also take influence from the builders, they are inheritors of their magic ways.

Awesome video! Note about the golems and their relation to pumpkins: the golems are a rather faithful reference to the jewish legend of the golem, who is made of clay and turned to life by carving the word "truth" (in hebrew) on his forehead. The important takeaway here is that there's nothing significant about his structure, but rather the words he bears. This would mean the pumpkin in minecraft is not a magical vessel, at least in this case, but most likely chosen because it resembles a face.

It's also interesting to know that Ghasts came from the Overworld, we know that from the achivement "Rescue a Ghast from the Nether, bring it safely home to the Overworld and then kill it" It seem that the ghasts were a major threat and were banished to the Nether and thier tears were used to create the end crystals. We know that the crystals ressurect and heal the dragon that would mean anyone who made the crystals created the dragons (plural since we can find dragon heads on flying ships) That's a one messy theory, I don't know why anyone would create a dragon (perhaps for experience you get from slaying a dragon, there are a lot of enchanted tools in the End)

Honestly the chorus fruit being named after the sounds they made when an explorer was studying them just gave me an epiphany about the different ways in which sound and music could be utilized in an end update! We know chorus fruit don’t make sounds in game, but what if different plants in the end were added that had small ambient sounds when you got near them? Or perhaps they make louder sounds when they reach full growth stage? In addition eating them would give strange effects. Like perhaps one of them gives you levitation? Or one that lets you see all entities like wall hacks? After all what’s more alien than an exotic jungle filled with musical plants? In addition this would give 2 new mobs for the end to explore with. 1 mob that is passive and can give you buffs based on sound. And 1 mob that screams at you and gives you debuffs. Another idea I had was an acidic biome for the end. But I’m not sure how that would do well, as it could be seen as just a Basalt Delta 2.0.

I have a theory that the nether and the end are the past and future of the overworld. I don't have much evidence, but the nether resembles how the overworld could've looked when it was forming. Piglin's could be pigs that somehow got into a nether portal, and adapted to their new environment, and the entirety of the nether's ecosystem came about from a group of pigs, villagers, and ghasts. The end is the end of the overworld, judging by the name. Some kind of world-ending event took place that shattered the overworld. 0,0 becomes the main island, while everything else is sent into the outskirts. It's possible that some villagers, golems, and possibly the player survived this event and adapted to their new environment. The villagers slowly became the endermen, the golems lost their towering shape and became shulkers, and the player would've either died or possibly become the Ender Dragon. I don't have much for the player = ender dragon, it's more of a cool headcanon. Whenever the player enters the end or nether portal, whatever they do influences the dimension.

The Nether is not The Overworld, why do people still think this? The structure and terrain of The Nether is vastly different from The Overworld, The Nether has a FLIPPING roof and it's world height is 128, which is smaller than The Overworld. The Nether also has bedrock on top while The Overworld has bedrock on below the caves which proves that The Nether is under The Overworld. This is further proved by the fact that The Nether is obviously based on Hell and that you'll get an ACHIEVEMENT saying "We Need To Go Deeper" when you go The Nether first time.

It seems like there are two kinds of the end. There is the violet color scheme and the less common greenish color scheme. My theory is that the greenish end is just remnants of an ancient era of the end, that was washed away when the dragon took over. This works with ‘Free the End’ and the fact that Enderman used to have the greenish color for their eyes instead of the violet we have today. The end portal frame is also from the old end, and maybe the dragon came from the outer islands that are all violet. The Warden shown in the Caves and Cliffs reveal has the color palette of end stone and old end green, so maybe it is connected to the long-lost era of the end. I dunno, but it sounds cool to me

i'm late to this, but this in incredibly interesting! great video, i have my own little tangent - if it's canon that creepers have a small TNT jacked in their body... and TNT is a manmade item... then *someone or some race made the creepers* . that opens up a lot of quasi-lore questions. who made them? for what purpose? that combined with the "profound sadness" look mentioned in the mobestiary makes me think whatever the creeper was a completely different species that got experimented on and eventually was bio-engineered into the creeper we know today. their visage being chiseled into sandstone pyramids could be a hint that the creeper's creators dwelled the deserts. those same pyramids have long been abandoned. so we have a race of green creatures that propogate via spores, they're hostile to all life, and were created by some mysterious extinct race. this is reminds me a lot of warhammer 40k and the orks.

I've had a half baked theory that the nether has undergone some drastic changes over a very long period of time. Basalt can be formed with lava, soul soil and blue ice, so what did the basalt deltas look like long ago? The huge mushroom acts more like trees than mushrooms, perhaps they've been mutated somehow, this is supported with how the turquoise variant is called "warped". The basalt deltas also has an ambient sound effect that sounds a lot like a geiger counter. The soul sand texture looks like faces, likely made out of some ancient creatures, was there a mass extinction event? The soul sand valley is also filled with skeletons.

Cool video. I haven't thought about MC lore in years... But I do have a pretty major piece of headcanon, related to the Stronghold where you find the end portal. Including some things from the video and comments here I can even expand it a bit. Back in the day on pocket edition, there were a couple of free skins called Stronghold Monarch and Stronghold Seer. My theory is that the End and Nether are indeed different dimensions, and that long, long ago, the minecraft world was populated by thousands and thousands of humans, like you, the player. They were a hugely advanced civilization, and they built all the overworld structures and even began to explore other dimensions. They conquered all biomes, even the ocean with huge Atlantis-type cities and the highly advanced Guardian golem. They found how to get to the Nether dimension, and conquered that too, creating the nether fortresses. But they were never satisfied, always exploring farther, and looking for more dimensions. They met their match with the End. Towards the end of this era of discovery and conquest, they found how to summon Endermen, and enslaved them to act as soldiers, builders, whatever they needed. But they didn't realize how much of a sentient species the Endermen were. And when they began attempting to explore and conquer the Endermen's own dimension, the Endermen decided enough was enough. They used their interdimensional powers to cause some kind of catastrophic wiping out of the entire overworld civilization, leaving behind only the more primitive villager species and the ruined structures you see today, and retreated to their own dimension, only occasionally returning to the Overworld they had come to hate so much. And that is why it's called the End. :)

I think that Minecraft: Story Mode is canon, via the power of the “Minecraft Multiverse.” Remember when Jessie and the gang were hopping through different dimensions, trying to get back home? I should point out that the "free the end" advancement has something to do with everything purple. If you look closely, there are two main themes to the end. The lime, being seen on eyes of ender, end portal frames, the enderchest as well as old versions of the endermen. And then there is the new puple, being seen on the dragon (egg), end cities and chorus flowers. This suggests that the end was at some point conquered by the dragon, infesting enderman and the local vegetation along the way.

Have you ever thought about the possibility of the End dimension in Minecraft being a glitchy, corrupted version of the game world? It may sound far-fetched, but hear me out. First, let's take a look at the music in the End. The music, composed by C418, is distorted and static remixes of the overworld music, adding to the eerie and unsettling atmosphere of the dimension. This glitchy music could be interpreted as a sign of the corruption of the game world, The music in the End is also notable for its lack of a clear beat or rhythm, which adds to the disorienting and unsettling nature of the composition. The music features ambient tones and noises that create a sense of foreboding, as if something ominous is lurking just out of sight. The Chorus trees, which are corrupted oak trees that now grow in twisted, unnatural ways, also support this theory. These trees are unique to the End dimension and are made up of Chorus Plant blocks that can be broken down into Chorus Fruit. These blocks and fruits appear to be artificial, almost as if they were created by a glitch in the game's code. End stone, which is just inverted cobblestone and the void, the empty space beneath the End dimension, is the result of players mining away everything until only the above End stone remained. End cities, which are eerie and empty, are reminiscent of liminal spaces with no sign of life except for the boxed mobs and mysterious chests filled with player gear. The Endermen, which are mysterious and seemingly intelligent mobs, could be players who refused to wake up from the corrupted/glitched world/dream. The dragon, which is the boss of the end, could be a representation of a glitched or corrupted mob (Possibly even in the games code) that has taken on a life of its own.

Maybe world structure chests could spawn with a few weapons that are "unique" to the societies that built said structures. Saves the hassle of adding more recipes while further incentivising overworld exploration. Cool video either way. I rather like this quasi lore idea.

I love the idea of unique weapons that have a modifier such as "villager" or "skeleton" that would change the texture and an additional effect that matches the mob that made it

Theory Time I think it is very clear that there was some form of advance ancient civilization in Minecraft that got wiped out by some mysterious force. I think that’s why the end portal exists. It was a desperate attempt to escape, but instead they were inslaved and forced to worthship the ender dragon. I think Endermen are those ancient people. I think from living in the end and eating chorus fruit they are eventually gained the ability to teleport. Over time I think some grew powerful in teleportation and decided to try and leave the end and their enslavement only to end up teleporting into the nether or the overworld. I think they get angry when they look at you because they are looking at an ancient image of themselves that they subconsciously recognize and attack because you enrage them with the fact you weren’t enslaved and warped like they were. I also think maybe you could be playing as the force that destroyed their civilianization. Maybe your Herobrine who after destroying their race completely from the overworld eventually forgot who he was was and eventually lost his powers and turned mortal. I think Wither Skeletons and piglings fight because Wither Skeletons are the undead people of the ancient civilization that enslaved their race for years. That’s why wither skeletons are in the fortresses they are defending the only home they have left. I think the iligers were expelled for black magic and trying to revive the dead. Idk man that’s my take on it. Maybe also a flood happened too along with a plague who knows!

My theory: Villagers and the player (ancient builders) are like apes and humans, a similair species with differences. What happened is that the builders tried too much on harnessing magic which led to their extinction, While the villagers gained some immunity to the virus which was one of the things that led to the builders extinction. Years and centuries past, while the villagers rely on iron golems which they created from knowlegde from the builders, they vow to never make the same mistake that the builders did which explains their pacifist culture and forget about the past. But some off the villagers does not want to follow those vows, even making a group to doing the things the ancient builders do, which led them to become outcasts, while the group became a separate government for the outcasts, calling them selves the illagers which is more advance then the villagers, with libraries about the ancient builders which the village elders hid along time ago. This is a short part of my theory book im writing for my minecraft library and meusum

I really like this and agree with your sentiment. It's nice to look at developer intention, but to keep in mind that some features were unintended. It's nice to look at thematics and lore, but not in a way that hurts or messes with the cost of the gameplay experience. It's all about application.

My theories: 1. The End is a limbo of sorts, and endermen are silent observers of their past lives, taking blocks to reminisce. 2. The ender dragon is the one responsible for putting people in said limbo for some reason or another, and killing the dragon frees the endermen. 3. The nether ruins exist because of slow contamination of nether materials leaking into the over world through portals after nether fauna attempted to explore the over world. 4. Desert temples were made by the same people who made the desert wells, a nomadic group who needed somewhere to stash/protect valuable or sacred items. 5. The wither was first summoned by those who used to live in red deserts, and after defeating it, created the chiseled sandstone to recount their tales or warn others.

The bettter Thn Wolves mod expanded a lot on this concept of hidden lore. A lore that the game doesn't really explain, but the designer had in mind at all time when designing the features and changes, to make sure the game felt as consistent as possible. The main idea was that the overworld was an artificial plane created to feed the ender dragon. Endermen would go to the overworld to pick up blocks that had soaked the xp dropped by mob when they died. Those blocks would turn into the endstone after the dragon eat them. In this lore, xp was actually the souls of the dead mobs (no other xp sources in the mod other than dead mobs), and after the ender dragon would digest the souls, the refuse would find it's way to the nether, congealing into netherrack and infecting any animal that came into contact with them. Pigs turned into zombie pigmen and squid into ghast, wich populated the nether. Cows and sheep are also afected by the nether, but the mutation is less severe. Contaminated sheep would float and contaminated cows would give birth to spiders and bats instead of other cows. And finally, villagers would turn into witches. Due to the planar proximity between the nether and the overworld, wich is why making a nether portal is so easy, the dead souls also contaminated the overworld gold deposits. turning it into redstone. wich is why redstone reacts strongly with gold, creating movement when a redstone signal reaches finely crafted gold devices. Then there's the player character. The lore in the mod is that the player character is some kind of evil mad scientist that has found a way to become immortal, regenerating every time it dies. to get rid of him, the people from it's world sent him to the minecraft overworld, thinking it would act as a prison it couldn't scape from despite it's immortality. that's where the game starts. The overworld detects the PC as a danger to the overworld peace and sends monsters (skelleton, zombies, spiders and creepers) to prevent it from thriving, by attacking it and any animal nearby it could use as sustenance. This force that tries to defeat the player again and again can only act in the darkness, even being capable of directly hurting the player in complete darkness. Your role as the player is to tame this overworld, reach the nether and enslave, the animals, the villagers, the monsters and even the dead souls in the nether's walls to create the machinery needed to survive and eventually (this last part was never realised in game before Flowerchild ended development a couple years ago) build a device that would allow the PC to return back to Home. The world it came from. The mod kept develoment in version 1.5.10. So it doesn't really have anything at all for the post-notch stuff in the game. But all of the mod's features worked to reinforce this hidden lore, that the creator only partially revealed and the community deduced to fill in the gaps.

Since Enderman can't grab endstone, but only overworld items, I liked to think that they grabbed them to bring them home and transform the end from a barren wasteland into a normal grassy field, but the enderdragon (who breaks all blocks placed by the player) didn't let them

I can definitely agree with a lot of the ideas brought up I personally have a different view of it. Minecraft lore if left as ideas not fact, this is so like everything else in the game the player can interpret it as they see fit, say a dessert temple spawns next to a village, the town could have been built around it by villagers that used the temple as a place of worship? Or multiple villages spawn close to each other maybe there apart of a larger civilisation compared to other villagers? This is just my view of course but I feel it adds to the explore and create structure of Minecraft making it so the lore can also be created/interpreted by the player’s imagination not set in stone fact.

@@ripalexx well its not a linear game. You set your own goals. And with mods, you can make it into a legit RPG if you want. The game revolves around you and what you want to do, not what the devs intend for you to do (if you know what I mean)

Since weve gotten more info on 1.17, which includes the addition of copper, I've made a theory that connects ocean monuments & guardians with the drowned/ruins. I think the drowned used to be humans/a species similar to humans, they wouldve been like th3 aztecs building giant monuments, and some event happened that caused their civilization to be flooded, and before they died they created copper golems & infused them with life, after many many centuries the copper degraded to the point of becoming a new material, prismarine

random thought. Badlands structure always spawning in the location of a nether fortress(it would indeed be ridiculously rare) and containing a ruined portal, as some sort of passage to the wither skeletons to the overworld. This vid was an amazing insight to things I liked about minecraft but couldn't name. Mojang has always been very considerate about their core ideas - ugly/cute designs that mesh with the flat, yet sometimes beautiful nature of pixelated blocks, a lack of deeper information, leading to questions it's great. This is why demands asking for dozens of new ores, new challenges, and countless new mobs always seemed riduculous to me because it would likely just create a hodge-podge of barely connected ideas. Minecraft is very much a sandbox game, not only for players but for the modders too. It has many, many ideas that can be explored as freely as one wishes. or maybe not im tired , it's 3am and im waxing poetic for minecraft lol

I noticed the achievement for getting a blaze rod says "relieve a blaze of its rod" and we theorized the blaze are people and the nether acts as a kind of hell, the rods are their sins weighing them down, but it could also be possible they are a golem, but the phrase "relieve" would not make sense and pumpkins are not native to the nether so there'd have to be some alternative, potentially wither skulls as they're used to create the wither which is clearly a construct of some kind
