Finland means Land of the Finns and not Land. Our native name Suomi however is bit more interesting, as we have multiple theories of it, but do not know which one is correct. Most commonly accepted one would be that it came from a tribe that called themselfs Suomi (Finland Proper region), who came up with their name from Suomaa (swamp). Another fun fact, we have dozen words for swamp, they change between our historic tribes/dialects.
@zefft.f401025 күн бұрын
Suomi meaning "Swamp" might not sound flattering, but it's like a more blunt rendering of the more poetic nickname of Finland, the land of a thousand lakes.

Yeah the “wal” part of wales more accurately means the people that speak a foreign language. It is the same root as the wall in Cornwall (as back in the day everyone there spoke Cornish). Also, in Belgium the French speaking community are referred to as the walloons from the same root. But the BEST part of all of this is that walnut is also derived from this meaning because it came originally from Persia and when the proto Germanics first saw this nut they basically called it “nut from the people that speak funny”

That's crazy, because I have had recurring dreams of teeth falling out. Not like every night, or even regularly, but every so often for decades, but I had no idea that it was so common. The other similar one I've had was that I'm forced to defend myself from whom or whatever, but when I fight back, my attempts are feeble and impotent. So, I try harder, but like no matter how hard I hit them right in the face, they don't seem effected by it at all.

Yeah teeth falling out dreams is very common, it's apparently supposed to be a 'sign you're scared of loosing something' but as a psychology graduate, I recon it's just common because it's a legitimate fear humans have xD you get ONE set of adult teeth and we already had the experience of the baby ones falling out, what if the adult ones fall out?? Or get knocked out?? And then they're gone forever!!?? Terrifying thought for many.

3:30 not a driver whatsoever (unless we count euro truck simulator, then I'm a pro), but a person with an above average memory - I remember years ago, back when I lived in Poland, I have heard that apparently driving on the left is meant to be safer than on the right - don't remember the source but it was pointing out the fact that when you drive on the left side (steering wheel on the right) you are using your off-hand to shift gears, while having your dominant hand on the wheel at all times (unless you're a leftie). If you're a driver or know about research on this and I'm wrong feel free to share your thoughts/experience with us in the comments :))))))))))

Teeth falling out is nothing when you have a constant nightmare about your throat, the inside of your cheeks and tongue filled with needles, and no matter how many you pull, they multiply. I suffer from a lot of parasomnias - A parasomnia is a sleep disorder that involves unusual and undesirable physical events or experiences that disrupt your sleep. - including exploding head syndrome, and sleep paralysis. Seeing the shadow man, while you're wide awake, but you can't move. Also quite a lot of the shadow man looming over me, and putting its fingers through my chest and out my back, and I can feel it. It hurts. A lot. So yeah, teeth are nothing to me. Thankfully my meds for insomnia, depression, anxiety, equate stress syndrome have helped in the main. Not completely, but a fair bit. If I miss one night of my meds it is all hell, providing that I can actually fall asleep. Sorry for the long message, and congrats if you made it this far. I'm rather drunk right now!

I came here for the Greeks hats, but Bahamanian dreams of doves sounds lovely. Getting a taxi to work is fairly common in certain occupations in many countries: in hospitals, broadcasting and certain IT and engineering/technical roles across industry, It’s for when 24/7 cover is essential &/or where a no-show in a key role could shut things down. It’s often done on the company’s “account”, mainly when people need to turn up at weird, unsocial hours. The taxi is really to make sure you definitely turn up and on time, but for many people, it’s just cos there is no public transport at 5am, or no safe way to get home at 1am. Especially in broadcasting, newsreaders and guests on news and magazine shows, or on anything live, always get picked up by a driver.
