My primary school had a hierarchy system. So year 1’s-4’s would sit on the ground while year 6’s and 5’s would sit on benches for year 5’s and year 6’s got chairs. Also, year 6’s could eat outside on the outdoor tables and decking while everyone else was stuck in dining hall.We could also choose more for ourselves and were able to get out things other years couldn’t.And, year 6’s were in charge of lunch calling years in at different times, queue management, music in assemblies, football games by as referees, even helping year 1’s and 2’s cutting food.Basically they reinforced class system with year 6’s on top, and younger years below and oppressed by us year 6’s and having less rights. And also used us as free workers, having us do their jobs because they felt it was fine.It was slightly chaotic when you’d be a year 6 managing the dining hall, football games and music in same day as well as lessons.Like having a job and school already at max 11.Some games we’d end up with huge punchups with us year 6’s who were referring having to break it up,and other times have to be like bouncers knocking people who’d tried to punch people or us out of queue.Man, what a classic British thing, child labour and class system.
