Trying to get around the bush at the moment is quite difficult. Vines, shrubs, saplings and leaf litter make it difficult to get a coil on the ground. In this clip, I’m using the Coiltek Goldhawk 10x5 to cover some old ground in an attempt to pick up small pieces of gold that other detectors have left behind.

I have been having a good time with the 10x5 here in New Mexico. I have found specks with it almost small enough to require tweezers to pic up. The coil with the 6000 is indeed a great combo for cleaning up hammered areas or where small stuff is all that exists.

Good to hear Phil. I agree with you on the size of some of the smaller pieces. They are easily lost when you inspect your gold at home. Some of the smaller ones will stick to your finger tips if the gold is wet and then fall off without you noticing.

Very good outcome. Maybe the SDC may do ok as well. Allways nice to go for a wonder in the bush. Taking a little bit home makes it even better.

I couldn’t agree more Rick. I spent a lot of time in this spot with the SDC a few years ago and had a lot of fun. With some work, you would still do well with it in areas like this.

Love your videos Lesgold. You have a very relaxed and down to earth presentation style. Just guessing you might be working around Mogo , NSW.?

Thanks Trevor. I just enjoy being out in the bush. Filming some of the gold finds just creates a few memories. I tend to prospect around the south coast as it’s close to home.

Just noticed your gold container, I am on the same blood pressure tabs , anyway nice gold with the 10x5 gold hawk, my son has one on his 6000 and it is dynamite

Thanks David. It is a nice coil. A mate gave me the rattle jar but I must admit that the blood pressure can rise a bit when you are on a solid run of lead shot.

Hi Les, what is the depth like on the 10 x 5 on larger nuggets. Great videos.
@lesgold2132
@lesgold2132 Жыл бұрын
I’ve pulled small bits of gold up to about 7 or 8 inches. The bigger the nugget, the deeper it goes. Most micro bits come in at depths up to about 3 or 4 inches.

Great video Les. Thanks for taking the trouble to make it. Twelve months on, are you still as impressed with the Coiltek 10 x 5? Do you think it picks up deeper than the Exceed 12 x 7 or the Minelab 11 inch, both of which I have and are happy with their performance, but more depth might put a bigger smile on my face?

The 10x5 stays on the machine most of the time when I’m working old ground. I also run the Exceed 12x7which is also a great coil. It’s not about depth with the Coiltek, it’s the sensitivity which is excellent when working flogged areas. It picks up really small pieces with a strong signal so much better than the 11” coil.

Nice. A compare of 10 x 5 vs 14 x 6 would be nice

Hi Dave. Do you mean the 14x9? I would expect greater depth on a 14x9 with quite good sensitivity.

I'm finding smaller gold than that with the standard coil
@lesgold2132
@lesgold2132 7 ай бұрын
And you will too. The standard coil is great and will find tiny specs. The advantage of the 10x5 is that it will find small pieces at a depth that does not register when using the 11” coil. A lot of testing using live, undug targets over a period of time showed us the potential of the coil. It is actually surprising how much gold the standard coil will miss. To its credit, the 11” coil does have a depth advantage when the gold gets a little larger. Non of what I just said should be of any real surprise, it’s just the way it works when coil size and shape are altered. Good luck with your detecting. Hope you find a stack of monsters on your next trip out.
