Metal Detecting Beach Minelab Vanquish and Nokta Simplex which is Best for metal detecting on a beach with Black Sand
Which detector performs the best the Minelab Vanquish 540 with Multi IQ or the Single Frequency Simplex + metal detecting on the black sand beach.
This is a very tricky beach to detect on mineralized ground & deep buried iron

Vanquish doing well-----good comparison video ! This is why I sold my Deus and opted for the 800---multi frequency the way to go ! Cheers Paul.

First of all awesome and very informative video! I have started metal detecting with a Bounty Hunter in Indonesia and went on the beach and it was horrible! I only got 1 coin from 4 hours of digging false signals. I could swipe left and right and got the signal, then do the cross and then the signal would be gone and sometimes pop up again. From about 7 days of detecting got only 1 coin.. Then i did more research and then got familiar with ground balance which then brought me to regret my buy, the Bounty Hunter performs well on dry soils but on the beach it is a no go.(i also payed huge amount of tax to get the bounty hunter (payed 400$ for a 120$ machine) ). Then i thought the only way was with a machine that could ground balance but they were all very expensive (i then really only wanted to get a Minelab machine) and saw that the cheapest model with ground balance was the Equinox 600 which is out of my budget along way.. But now i started to do more research and i opted out to buy the Vanquish 440 I'm sure that this one will be better in handling these situations and your video supports my decision. I guess you learn from experience. Cheers and much love, you just earned a subscriber!

Great to see you back out on the beach Paul. I'm a simplex owner and fully agree with your comments about it falsing on hot rocks and black sand, although I've had some good results with it as well. I mainly use mine in the field as I live miles from the nearest beach. I've considered a vanquish to add to my 'tools' but I'm hanging on until I've seen more of the new garrett to see how that performs too. I think for the price point, they are all good machines and keep my interests in the hobby fresh as I don't have to sell a kidney to buy one! Cheers and keep safe pal.

I have had a Simplex for over 2 yrs now and mainly used it on Fields & Pasture, occasionally on the beach. More recently I have been with a couple of fellow detectorists on wet beaches. I was stunned by the lack of finds I had, my friends were both hitting targets. Like this vid I was digging signals only to find nothing... lots of holes & lots of sand removed but no result ! One guy using a Vanquis so we compared signals ..... Needless to say I'm now looking for a Vanquish for wet sand areas ! Perfectly happy with the Simplex on land but as I live 50 yds from the beach ... I feel there's more out there for me 🙂 Lol

My V540 pulled out a Australian 5c coin (75% Copper, 25% Nickel 19mm Dia) with the coil 1 and 1/2 feet under salt water and the coin 9" in black sand. 3 notches off full sensitivity .

Found a Mercury dime, 1941 at a lake beach in Michigan . Kent Lake, Kensington Metroparks south east Michigan. There are always or 3 detectorists there everyday, all summer, year after year. My Vanquish 340 picked up the dime at about 14" inches, passed over for decades. Minelab!

I`ve heard from several others that the Vanquish goes deeper than air tests when the target is in some soils. My 340 hits a nickel at 13 inches solid in air tests. I found 24 coins in my yard on its first real test run.

Thanks Paul you confirmed my suspicions that the simplex will work great on the dry sand but is not the pick up and go machine on the wet sand usable but you would have to keep tweaking it and since it’s aimed at new users who to be honest won’t have a clue how to tweak the machine to get the best performance, as a beach machine tho I haven’t used the vanquish it still looks to be the best starter machine for beaches. Keep hearing opinions about it not being waterproof well my answer to that is how many people do you see in the water with a metal detector, I live on the coast and can count on one hand how many times I go in the water a year and that’s with owning a couple of waterproof machines.

Ive had my 540 wet through without the cover on but i wouldnt recommend it.. its better with the rain cover on but still not waterproof. But like you say how many people actually do go underwater 😊

Cool side by side video Paul mate and interesting to see ...i do have a question about the simplex if its chatty on wet sand whats the point in it being fully waterproof ...ok i know that sounds funny but most beaches rivers streams where your mostly going to use the waterproof feature tend to have wet sandy bottoms ...if you see what i mean lol ...good to see you back out brother 👍😀👌

probably so you could do fresh water Derek mate, but to be fair how many people actually go under water anyway, the majority dont even go out detecting in the rain 😊

.Great video very informative. If you have a beach around or highly mineralize soil I guess a multi frequency machine would be better. But if you’re out in the fields a single frequency machine will do just fine.. Especially when that machine is $250 less than the multifrequency machine also the vanquish is by far the ugliest machine I’ve ever seen lol

Hi could I have a bit of advice please I recently brought a Vanquish 440 I tried it out over the week end on the beach on the wet sand at Lake Pier Dorset. A few times I thought I had a good repeatable tone and the number was 20-21 I dug hole real deep in to black sand and nothing but when scanning the hole the number and tone was the same and depth was indicating depth very deep 5 of the little spade icons. Do the vanquish false sometimes? Iam I doing some wrong. Also I noticed on your coil you have to v10/ 12 at the back of the shaft I have mine in the front of the shaft does this make a difference? Cheers Martin

Hi There, it will false if you have the sensitivity to high, a deep iron target can give off a similar id reading it could aslo be a deep large target ie tin can.. the coil is not a problem which way round it goes 👍

Hi Paul, Someone was asking on the forums (think it was uk beach detecting)2 days ago if they'd made a mistake on getting the vanquish as a well known dealer told him he had (he didn't disclose who) Told him to check out your KZbin channel, this video is all he needs to see. 👍

Hi Paul and thanks for the video. I have a Simplex, and it is a nice machine. But it is a chatterer. It's so chatty it makes my wife look like she's dumb. I have been toying with the idea of a Vanquish 340 to take to the beach in Leysdown Isle of Sheppey. I already have a nox 800, but don't want to cart it down there everytime I go there. So something cheap and cheerfull is what I am looking for, that I can just leave down there. I am going to play with the Simplex for a bit longer, and do a few tests, but I can feel the credit card getting warmed up to buy a Vanquish. I keep hoping that I will see someone down there who has one, and I could try it out. All the best, and keep up the good work Nubsey aka Nigel

Hi Paul, have you ever used a pin pointer on the beach? I’m trying to work out whether I buy one. After digging up aluminium cans and tabs in a park. I’m shying away from digging in dirt😃

i do use one in the thick black sand as it doesnt fall through a sand scoop, but the dry sand or in the water the sand falls out of the scoop so not really a need for one
