Bring the pistol up to eye level as you load a mag. That way you can keep the target in your sight without having to look down. That’s the way we trained. With practice it’ll become second nature.

May I suggest if you carry your rifle slung on your left shoulder, carry it muzzle down. You would be grabbing the proper part of the rifle with your left hand, thus be faster and less cumbersome to shoulder. Just a thought.

I run a p226 as my edc/concealed carry/duty pistol and I've been weighing whether I should get a mini 14 or an m1a scout squad. I respect the ar platform but personally not a fan of the direct impingement or how the charging handle is designed. Love the walnut stocks on the older Coldwar Era guns, it just conjures up that old school Americana, back when America had balls and principles. 5.56 is cheaper and lighter but I can do a lot more with .308 in big elk country here in the pnw. Liking the cowboy vibe, keep up the good practice man.

You appear to be working through carrying the carbine in a way you wouldn't normally do so. Odd. We would be carrying a rifle and pistol for a perceived reason so KISS. Some 550 cord and a two-point sling would improve the carry issue. A RED DOT on that Mini 14 would be faster on target...and that is important IF a need arises so we plan and train for it. The Mini14 will do the job if you do yours. The Sig 220 is a great fighting gun. I have a couple of them and carried one on duty. Nice to see someone train and not just blast through a bunch of ammo.

I'm actually trading for a Mini 14 with an friend that's an old Marine, he has a bunch but wants an AR so I'm building him one. It's an older version 181 and I'll do all the mods to it but I'm keeping the wood stock on it and it will be irons only, getting the Tech sights for it, I kind of have to because it's missing the rear sight and someone put in a rail so it could be scoped but it's like a mile high off the bore. I think Specter gear has a sling that would be more advantageous to transitions, you wear the rifle across the front of your body and when you transition to the pistol you just drop the rifle to your left side. The problem is I dig the leather sling too and all the acrobatics you did with the rifle looked like fun. I imagine you were thinking "Wheeeeeeeeeeee" when bringing the rifle to position or anyway that's what I was thinking, cuz like, that's how roll. Groovy.

As pretty as that leather sling is, it would be easier to transition with a longer nylon sling. You could keep the sling hanging over neck and shoulder, and when you transition to your pistol, it just hangs off in front of you instead of doing some sort of complex slinging/unslinging maneuver. Just make sure the sling is long enough so you can shoot from either hand without having to move the sling to the other shoulder when you change hands.
@leverBoyluke

I disagree with throwing the rifle rounds somewhere downrange around the target. I believe it starts one down a road of "bad habits". If you are going to make a video showing how to do something, you should take the training ahead of time to learn how to do it correctly and safely. Rifles with the short leather sling that are set up like yours, to carry on just one shoulder, need to be carried either on the strong side with the muzzle up or the weak side with the muzzle down. Flipping it off your shoulder as you are is reckless at best. MUZZLE DISCIPLINE! When you flip it off your shoulder, you are sweeping the muzzle behind you. Yeah, it's fast and looks sexy, but it is dangerous! Also, as you've experienced, the pistol is kind of in the way. Your best option is carrying on the weak side, muzzle down. To get the gun off your weak side, muzzle down position, you grab the fore end of the rifle with your left hand, lift the gun slightly to slide the sling off the shoulder, then sweep the muzzle straight up as you rotate the gun right side up and reach for the grip with your strong hand. It is smooth and fast. You should also do it dry to learn how, before you head to the range. I'm not writing this to put you down. I'm a retired military weapons instructor with nearly 50 years of instruction behind me between the military and civilian courses. I've taught the use of slings and how to properly transition between guns.

@@leverBoyluke yeah me too. After having my ass beat halfway to death where my right hand has eight fractures on my wrist and five on my hand itself. My weekend became my strong hand real quick 🤣🤣. But mostly I do it cuz I think it's kind of cool 🤦. Like the video man I don't make much videos hardly think maybe I have one that's like six seconds short I'm more of a spectator. Baby kind of cool make a video with you at least you know ready shoot already kind of s***

Why are you practicing to do things that you "wouldn't do in the wild"? I mean, if you don't want to do it in the real world, don't train to do it? "Train as you would fight." as the saying goes. If you are going to carry your pistol loaded. train with it loaded. If you want to train reloads do 1R1's after you sling your rifle. (Which really needs a sling that allows you keep the gun slung while you shoot, so all you need to do is drop it, and grab your pistol. I know it's not stylish like a leather sling, but who cares what your gun looks like, if someone else has it, because they killed you while you were trying to transition to your pistol.) PS this is just my observation, You do you. (After all, I may be the one who has a nice Mini-14 because your transition was too slow. LOL Just kidding *obviously*)
@leverBoyluke

I was trying to practice my reloads and transition, thats the whole point to this exercise. Just bc you guys see me do one particular drill on the internet doesn't mean thats the ONLY thing I have practiced. It simply means this is the drill I wanted you to see.

@@leverBoyluke Like I said brother, "You do You." I just don't understand why you want to practice something that you're not going to do in real life, but if it's what you want to do, or you have some other reason, go for it. It's none of my business.

But seriously, why would you train in a manner that is not what you would normally do? Don’t you think you could be building habits and muscle memory that could be detrimental? At minimum, it seems like time wasted doing steps you will never do, for example, racking the slide? Not judging, just trying to figure out the mindset here.
