Mini A-Series gearbox rebuild - recommended upgrades

I once broke the laygear in my Mini on the way home on a Friday night. I had no money so I stripped the box, I found a second hand laygear in the bottom of a water filled box in the back garden, I re-assembled it all, there was no time for cleaning and I was outside, had it all running for work on monday and it worked perfectly for years!

Watching this after breaking my box. Had fitted a KAD short shifter 80 km before breaking the box. Either to agressive a shift or a money shift, not sure since I was absolutely gutted. The worst part is hearing the sound and knowing immediately that you broke your box.

Hi , thanks for very intersting videos , it show all the steps and make it simple. i have used the 1,2 selector and the 3,4 selector of a rod gearbox and put them in the older type gearbox.( pre rod gearbox ). i found out that these selectors have a harder springs inside ( i refere to those 3 springs inside the selectors ) and now the gear change had become also a little more harder.i mean that the gearlever from inside the car is more stiffer to change gear . Should i had to use the older selectors? thx again

Clean it with oven cleaner, removes all the gunk quickly amd rinse with water

What is your thinking on rerouting the oil from the gearbox out to an external connector, to go to an additional oil filter before it reaches the pump? At what stage - if any - is this needed?

Hi when I let my gear box chemically cleaned. Bearing and oil seal sittings are on harmed? Meaning after the chem cleaning it can be reinstalled after inspection of cracks

I have 97 automatic and just overhauled the gearbox costed me 7000 USD. This mechanic was recommended by a friend who is also mini fanatic. Just wondering whether it is fair costs.

We don't see any autos, so it's difficult to say, but that does seem quite a lot. Although if it includes removal of the engine from a 97 Mini, that's a very time consuming job.

@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos Not sure if engine was removed. Later also found issues with gas tank, hi-lo, and rubber cone tally around 9100 for repair at entirety. It better be worth it. ¯\_ಠ_ಠ_/¯
