This series of videos has been amazing!! I just rebuilt my DAM5626 (17/62) gearbox and I coudnt have done it without all your tips and tricks provided in this video!!! Thanks a million for a job well done and presented!! gearboxes have been my nemesis for years and years till I finally decided to tackle one and May the force be with me I thought! My humble two cents on the process of the replacing synchro hub spirngs and balls (the little flying devils) is you can also use an old speaker magnet to keep it all in place. I just slide the magnet on the inner hub and it keeps all three springs and balls in place so that you can lock it in place without any fuss! Cheers from Greece!

That’s a super clever idea if you don’t have the tool in the video. Glad that you have enjoyed the series. I really enjoyed making these videos. 🙂

@@classicminidiy Not sure. I stripped down the entire car for nut and bolt resto 5 years ago, and still at it. Life has kinda gotten in the way, but hope 2019 will be a good year for it. Cheers

a piece of pipe/tube that fits snugly over the inner part of the syncro hub can be used to fit the springs and balls. Just drill a hole it it, and align it with the spring hole and pop in the spring and ball, it can then be rotated to the next hole, and it works just like the tool you have, but it's easy to make.

Keep your “parts” clean! Best comment ever! Cheers

you really dont need that guessworks tool to fit the synchro together. you can just align one inside the other, with the wholes just above the outer lip, then put the springs and balls, and with both hands you can press the balls in and push the whole mechanism in rather easily. Alternatively just get an old spray paint can plastic cap, cut small notches corresponding to the synchro spring wholes, and viola! you have something very similar to the guessworks tool - cheap as chips.

I picked up a couple of rod change boxes and stripped them for parts. One had been sitting in the dirt for years and the bottom stud on the diff housing has completely corroded. The diff casing was fused to the stud, so I ended up cutting through it with an angle grinder to get the diff assembly out...

The synchro hub tool is quite cool but it can be done as well with an tie rap around the inner one to keep the balls in place - not a big deal

Can you provide info about getting the tool for the Syncro hub, to put the roller balls in place. I'm amaze about your videos, you make everything to look so easy, step by step, I'm ready to tackle my project. thanks.

You didn't actually explain what the synchro hubs and the baulk rings actually do. By explaining what they do would give a better understanding on how the gears change smoothly and without the crunching and with work baulk rings why you crunch gears. But so far you're doing a great job. Keep up the good work! 👍

Good work Cole - great video - you started adding lubricant on the 1st part - did you forget after that or only the 1st bit needs it?😁

Once assembled a rod change gearbox with the synchro hub inserted the wrong way round. Only when I put the engine and gearbox back in the Mini did I discover it wouldn't change gear. Had to pull the whole thing out again and disassemble the main shaft.

I have I bit of a weird question but I’m 6.4 ft and a want to get a mini do you think I’ll fit comfortably?
@dastardlyman5 жыл бұрын
im 6ft 2 and fit in ok. you may have to drop the seat so the foam is actually touching the floor. basically a new standard mini seat - you will not be ok. but an old saggy standard seat - you will be fine.

What kind of cleaning process did they use for the main shaft and the gears?
@classicminidiy5 жыл бұрын
Gears were glass blasted then solvent cleaned I believe. The mainshaft was polished past that I am not sure.

Awesome video, man! Keep up the great work! 🙌🏼⚙️ I'm finishing the paint on my Mini, (follow instagram.com/minibrgproject if you want to check it out) hopefully tomorrow I have it finished, so I can start assembling it. The engine/motor is fine for now, so it will only receive a new paint, other than that this kind of videos will help me a lot on a future job :D Thanks, man! Have a great year!
