**PART I: UNBOXING & ASSEMBLY VIDEO: bit.ly/2R81kQp
I finally found a new flying spot! Joined the local rc flying club and got my AMA membership. I'm now able to use the rc flying field and filmed Part II of my Mini Apprentice S video.
Here I go over getting up for your first flight with the Mini Apprentice and share some tips I picked up from other members. This plane is a really popular trainer, but can also do some fun aerobatic moves so you can grow into it as your skills progress.
Apologies for the not-so-great audio - my mic broke so I had to re-film it with no external mic!
Lastly, I'll be at the AMA Expo November 2-4, 2018 in Pomona, CA. Get your tickets at amablog.modela...
Full disclosure: I'm a brand ambassador for Horizon Hobby and try out various products they send me but I'm not a paid sponsor. Views are my own!

Hi loved your videos,just got a little tip for beginner pilots.We always taught absolute beginners to fly square circuits,take off into wind,bank left across the wind,bank left down wind,bank left again across wind,final approach left again into wind and land.That way you got experience with wind control coming from the right,coming from behind,coming from the left and then head on again into land,plus added throttle control.A little boring at first but a very good confidence builder and once gained learners got a good sounding for general flying. Keep the videos coming! happy flying from the UK

Richard, OMG, I am really super impressed! with YOU, Why? (First I am not a candidate boyfriend! - Yea, I am 83 and happily married for 60years and I do have a daughter. I have been and EE and build an fly RC, owned a full scale PA28. - My daughter is into flower, for wedding etc. am I love her to death. BUT, having a daughter like you is to die for. - that is meant as a complement. - YOUR daddy most be so so so impressed with you! - Another complement, your presentation are really excellent, so many are good but they - just show what HE did. YOU have wisdom to provide as you go, the WHYs, and Whens for people new to our hobby. My complements!

Great demo of all the modes. Nice smooth landings. 👍 I grew up with my Dad being a pilot, and we went to LOTS of airshows and fly-ins, and I even took some flight training myself, so I guess it could be said that flying is in my blood. Heh Your "flip" is a loop, and a loop where you nose down instead is an outside loop (so technically a regular loop is an inside loop).

Glad to see you joined a local club. It has many advantages - Instructors, club events such as fun flies, and there is a wealth of rc modeling experience. I just learned to fly two years ago without the stabilaziation of modern receivers. I learned on an hobbico Superstar EP and it helped to have an instructor.

Nice job! A tip if you’re interested - noticed you use your thumbs to move the sticks. Try using your thumb and forefinger. This should provide for more precise and gentle control. YMMV. Cheers!

Your experience with the local club was a good one. When I talked to a few guys at my local club and told them I had bough an Apprentice Se w/SAFE, they poo-poo'ed and said the only way to learn was with a buddy-box and a regular plane. Needless to say, I didn't bother to join their club and I fly on my own.
@RCGirl
@RCGirl 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there are a lot of "by the book" folks that are a bit turned off by the new technology. I'd say anything that gets more people into the hobby, and reduces the learning curve, the better. Don't rely on SAFE for too long, but using it as a learning tool is fine in my book!

@@RCGirl I totally understand a comment you made, in this or another video, about developing bad habits in beginner and intermediate modes. I bought my Apprentice about 3 or 4 years ago. Flew it just a little and the ECS nearly burned the plane up. I stored it away until just recently...figuring I now have the time to invest. She's up and flying again and I've spent some time in "intermediate" mode. I just picked up RF9.5 w/controller to hopefully get some low risk practice, but unfortunately I can't get it to install on my computer. Searched the internet and found a number of people that had similar issues, but no resolution. Horizon has yet to respond to my help request. I'm looking forward to getting the simulator up and running. I really enjoy your videos and calm, confident demeanor.

@@gmorphan hmmm assuming you're running it on a PC? Does it meet minimum spec requirements?
@gmorphan
@gmorphan 3 жыл бұрын
@@RCGirl Yes, it's a PC. It's 5 years old, running Windows 10 with plenty of RAM, hard drive storage and the most up-to-date drivers. My issue is I can't get RF9.5 to even install. Both the CD and online upload just stalls at "preparing install" after the initial "where to you want to put it" screens. I've disabled what little virus protection I have and even attempted the install in "developer mode", but no luck. I will try Horizon again. I've got an option to install it on my wife's laptop, but not until she completes an online study and exam. Otherwise it's try to hit up my IT guy at work. I'm a fairly competent computer user, but I know my limits.

It looks like you're picking up flying pretty well! You'll learn some more techniques from your fellow flyers at the club too;they're a great resource.If I may suggest something that'll help you.As you start flying more without the gyro assistance,make as small movements as possible on the sticks.Also,as you turn for example,ease into the turn first as you smoothly add some up elevator.Then, when you level the wings,just relax the elevator.Much of the time,the plane will fly straight and level with little input. Finally,waiting for the plane to settle into a stable turn,climb,descent,ect.will look realistic and silky smooth! Happy flying. :-)

A little different take on beginning the model-plane hobby, which is nice :) When you advance in your training hone your skills on landings, it can save your planes in the future, when having problems in the air, like when batteries die (motor cuts of for low voltage or a nitro plane or a glow plane dead sticks) so you don't have to plan your "emergency landing" that much . Also for more pleasant videos fly a bit closer if you can or have a zoom in the camera, much more enjoyable to see the plane properly than just a few pixels for the most of the time ;).

Some added bonuses I think will be good to mention about this plane. If you let go of the sticks, it should come back to straight and level in beginner and intermediate mode but not in advanced mode. Panic button works in all three modes. Great job and keep em flying. Try a radian and I think you'll have a blast when you catch your first thermal. They are easy to fly too plus the lights on the new one are insane.

Tip for beginners. When the plane is flying towards you, the ailerons and rudder are reversed. That means, when the plane is flying towards you, to make the plane roll left, push the control stick to the right. To keep the wings level when flying towards you, push the stick to the low wing. So if the right wing is lower, move the stick to the right and you will so the wing come up.

You're really getting a handle on flying, quickly!! 👍👍 One thing I'm surprised you haven't been told yet... In turns (especially with aileron turns), you ALWAYS lose altitude. You should be getting used to a tiny bit of up Elevator, whenever you're turning. After time, you'll instinctively KNOW exactly how much Elevator you need in turns, to make it look smooth! 😉 ......... BTW, a "back flip" is actually called a "Loop the Loop" or just a Loop. The "roll over" is actually a "Barrel Roll". Just want to keep you on the right track! 😊 With any Aircraft, Altitude is LIFE! Other than that, that's something of the BEST N00B Flying I may have ever seen!! Great Presentation and Explanation for any Skill Level to understand. I've flown the 1:1 variety in the Air Force..... But am only Building my FIRST RC Aircraft now! I'm told that for real Pilots, there's a relearning Curve! 😱 I'm excited to start. I've been at RC Meets for Years, but only have less than an hour, on a tiny Park Flyer!! RC Flying can be as relaxing or intense as YOU want it to be. And it looks like you've nearly got the perfect Trainer! Me, and most of the guys who I see fly, all agree that Tricycle Landing Gear is FAR better for Ground Control than Tail Draggers. Easier to take off, and Much easier to Land! EXCELLENT Video, young Lady! ~ Carmine

I've been a real airplane pilot since 1980. I owned one of the best planes to learn to fly in, a Piper Cherokee. The little electric Cessna 172 clone that you are flying is the perfect platform to learn how to fly RC planes. Terminology for flying will come to you after being a pilot for a while. I had one of my friends jump in my plane after I got my solo permit and ask me to take him "around the patch" . When I looked at him like he had two heads he decided to get back out of the plane and wait until I had more experience. Good choice." When in doubt round about" is a good saying. Nothing worse then bringing home a broken model. I'd like to commend you on your efforts to get more women into flying RC or doing any RC for that matter. It's good clean fun that anyone can be involved in. I think that starting out with small inexpensive trainers is a very good idea for anyone interested in RC flight. Loops, rolls, Dutch rolls, hammer heads, stalls and spins are just a few of the terms that become second nature. So watch you altitude and attitude and have fun RC Girl! You Rock!

You should present yourself first by your name and then the channel name. *one tip I always do is check the battery level right before installing it on the plane regardless if it was charged at home. I have lost count how many pilots lose their planes due to a battery they thought was charged. That club has to be difficult to fly during sunrise/sunset depending on which one is it opposite of when you were there.

You said early in this video to use a buddy box or someone to trim your plane. What’s a buddy box? Love your videos keep them coming. Thank you

You can link your Spektrum transmitter to another one wirelessly (with someone who has more experience) so they can immediately take over controls mid-flight with the press of a button.

Great videos! What would you recommend to a beginner: Sport Cub S 2 or Mini- Apprentice or Apprentice? And should one buy a good remote control to start with or go with an RTF kit and a limited radio? Many thanks!

I just flew a Sport Cub S 2 a couple of days ago. First time flier. Hand launch and soft landings in a grass field. Crashed into the only tree around and it’s all good! Got the ready to fly kit. And a couple of extra batteries. I love it for a first time plane.

OVONIC I picked up a few of your batteries after RC girl recommended them. They are GREAT and usually give me more capacity than their rating. Very happy!

I got the sport cub s and flew it for the first time ,it was too windy and had to put it down before the wind took it away for good ,I purchased this one to also train on after I practice on the mini one first

super nice landing. how are you getting it to slow down while landing? also, as you mentioned for a beginner plane it doesn't want to come down, and mine keeps wanting to climb SAFE or not, how are you keeping it level?
@RCGirl
@RCGirl 4 жыл бұрын
You'll have to trim the elevator down a bit so that it doesn't climb when you're flying. Make sure to trim when you're flying at about half throttle. And to slow when landing, I'm basically landing on no throttle and I do use a bit of elevator to bring it down (which I know technically you aren't supposed to do)
@qnoorani
@qnoorani 4 жыл бұрын
@@RCGirl thanks for the reply and the help. trimmed the elevator today while not in SAFE and it flew better but still climbing a bit. thinking I may also need to manually lower the elevator a couple of notches. landing is a whole different story though lol. killed the throttle as you recommended but it's still coming in hot. an option for breaks would be money.

When I first started flying I couldnt land where I wanted. As long as it landed, I didnt care. Now I can land where ever I want, not where ever it wants. lol. Its a nice plane for the money.
