Thanks Mike, I'm taking it easy to start but, in a day or two, I'm going to do a duck which has off-centre turning because a few people have asked for that. Now I've finally started I can't get stopped. Best Wishes, Brendan.

What a great idea!!! They are sure to bring a smile and comfort to folks who are stressed over their child. Please keep up the excellent work. I need your videos to remind my lovely bride and children that others share my sense of humor. Take care, Rik

LOL, thanks Rik, these are so easy to do and so worthwhile. I was at a demo on Saturday and there were already loads of ducks so there should be a good show in a month's time. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Very nice work. I worked as a Paramedic for many years and we often transported premies from out lying rural hospitals to our Med Center and it is amazing how tiny they are and how these small barbells can help with their grasp and strength. Unless you have ever seen one it's hard to imagine how small. You mentioned in the previous video that they would fit in the palm of your hand and that is so true. Great work and something they will cherish for a lifetime.

Thank you. The smallest babies I ever saw were my mate's twins and they were both under 2lbs weight at birth. They are healthy 30 year-olds now but, back then, we didn't think there was much hope. It's easy to do work for babies like that and is one of the most enjoyable parts of being in the woodturning guild. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Hi Brendan !! Thanks for helping the little ones and their families.They would also make great little stocking fillers for people into weight training or fitness.......Nice one mate !! Chris.
@bmacwoodturning203510 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, I never thought of the stocking filler thing but I'll be doing that at Christmas because I know two lads who do a lot of weight training for their sports. Best Wishes, Brendan.

A little money and a little skill might equal a smile on a mom or dads face when one is really needed.

That's why it's easy to find time to make these. The Irish Woodturners' Guild mission statement is to promote woodturning and improve the skills of the members. This is a great way to give us the practice we don't normally like doing and benefit other people. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Lovely charity. Would also work great for dollshouses.

I never thought of dolls houses but I'll get onto my daughter because she makes plates and pottery for dolls houses. Thanks for the idea. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Hello Brendan, Confident turning for a very worthy cause. Also, I like the scientific method of adding a bit of extra weight:-). Alan.
@bmacwoodturning203510 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, that weight addition technique is the woodturning equivalent to statistics, you can do whatever you want with the chisel. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Those are great and for a good cause! I've been enjoying your videos and no worries... your nervousness in your last video wasn't apparent and what little there may have been seems to have vanished with this one. :)

Thanks Jon, I am going to do a few more videos that are pretty easy stuff before taking on projects that will require more time and skill. I could talk all day on camera but actually turning is a different matter. However, as you said, I'm getting over that and there's always editing to take out any real disasters. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Brendan drinks heavily now (shh its a rumour) I heard on line, lol. Brendan, I think that's why I watch you though sometimes because you were very human and funny (banging into things and dropping stuff, etc.) talking to machines as if they are human. Its very entertaining, You're not a trendy guy (yuck). Those people who feel the need to live their lives like a magazine tells them how to, you're not those kind of sheeple.
@baconsoda10 жыл бұрын
GingerRootable LOL, thank you very much. I have always refused to run with the pack...to my disadvantage at times, and tend not to worry too much about what people think of me so it really is a case of 'what you see is what you get'. I know what I need to do to become 'the popular guy' but I just can't bring myself to do it so I've missed out on opportunities at times because people knew I wouldn't play by their rules. Do I care? Not a jot. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, Brendan. I loved the way you made them heavier. Do you finish them with oil, or leave them bare? -Stuart
@bmacwoodturning203510 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stuart, I leave all the hospital stuff bare because he doctors don't want oils and waxes near the babies. Maple is suitable as it is resistant to bacteria and diseases. The hospital specify Maple, Sycamore (are they the same thing? Experts talk for hours on that subject) and Beech. I suppose any close-grained hardwood used for food would be fine too. I sand the pieces to 500 and until they are buffed to a shine. I am very particular about the small items because the babies' skin is so delicate I am scared that a tiny edge will cut it but we've never had that issue. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Thanks, Brendan! Is this for Our Lady's Children's Hospital?
@baconsoda10 жыл бұрын
Stuart Davey It's for the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. If you need to be sick anywhere in Europe that's the hospital to be near, their expertise is phenomenal due to the work they had to do in our recent, tragic, past. Best Wishes, Brendan.

You should have made a few out of some heavier wood.
@baconsoda10 жыл бұрын
We are restricted in the types of wood we can use for hygiene reasons but, I will be using some very dense woods to make little barbells for a couple of guys I know who do a lot of weight training for their sports. Best Wishes, Brendan.
