Dear, I would like to thank you very much. I have had the same issue and only thanks to your perfekt guidance I was able to repair my MiniOne roof. I guess i had to watch your videos 10 times or so. Always in stop-and-go-mode. All the best! Herbert

tullid, you are my HERO! my roof broke about two years ago and i didn't find the 2500 dollars it would cost to repair it in Switzerland. Now I found your video and I spent the last four days repairing it with your guidance. I just finished the work and I am SOO HAPPY, IT WORKS! :D the connecting plastic-part of the locking mechanism was broken too, so I had to remove the moving rivets and then reconstruct the broken part from aluminum... was hard but fun! Thanks again and all the best!

A screw came undone because the thread lock was not put on properly. This jammed the mechanism and broke the plastic lever next to the cable arm. This would have been the third complete roof mechanism put on by BMW Mini in nine and a half years. They wanted to charge me £2200 and that is not for the canvas hood. I work at an aerospace foundry with a machine shop. Your video was invaluable in getting it apart and putting it back together again. The guys and girls at work made me another lever and rivets out of an aerospace alloy and when I offered to give them some money for their efforts they asked me to put it towards Cancer Research. Better than those money grabbers at BMW. Once they have sold you a car and it is out of warranty you are on your own as regards BMW. They will not sell you individual parts but half the car. WELL DONE for posting these videos!! YOU ARE A STAR!

Thank you so much for this superb series of videos on how to repair the mini hood. I basically took the computer out to the garage and did it step by step. In the end the end of the cable was trashed so I had to cut the helix with a Dremel and use a fresh piece of cable that was consequently exposed. It made the cable slightly shorter by 25mm but it didn't seem to matter. BMW wanted £1000 to do the job and even the local guy wanted £600. So thanks for saving me a shed load of money. Cheers, Joe

Worked as instructed however the hood had been badly removed previously and the tabs at the front had 7 broken or missing. My cable was too badly chewed to be reused however did have another "spares" car with a broken hood and was able to salvage enough parts to make it work. Be careful when you reinstall the motor, i broke the plastic casing but used a salvaged motor so everything works as it should. Thanks for the video it helped me immensely.

Thanks for the videos, it was super helpful, I went ahead and got new parts ($$$) but repaired with the new design and working great. I have a good latch and a damaged latch plus the old front pieces if you know someone that needs them.

Thanks, actually I did have to take the canvas apart. Originally both latches broke and there was no way that I knew of at the time to get enough canvas slack to get at the screws. Everything I read on NAM was w/ 1 broken latch, not both. Besides, taking the canvas off only adds @ 20 mins both ways to the repair, and I don't have to worry about restricted access to those damn screws :) So far the repair has held up real well. Still using the sunroof portion daily.

Thanks for your video , I'm a motor trimmer and I never worked in a car like this , nevertheless I have a suggestion to make sure that on top of the J- weld used to secure the end of the cable, this can have extra strengh. It looks like the end of the cable have been squashed from factory , we can not do it again , but we can drill a small hole in the alloy and put half a way thru a very small screw to make sure the cable doesn't come out again. It looks feasible to me , but my only guide is the video you have uploaded . Thanks again

I sold my mini a few days ago, and the day it sold the sunroof failed to up on the right when the guy got home. Worked fine earlier that day. I am not an unethical guy, so I offered to refund him 5250.00 today and try and repair it myself. He said he would be interested in it still after the repair. I am hoping you can guide me as the tools I need to accomplish this 4 part video series. I have a housemate who can assist.

Hi! Thanks for the Top Repair videos. It worked well for us. But i think i have missed some part. When everything was finished, we where happy until the top was half way back and the locking mechanism was about to unlock at the front. It will not unlock and a red LED start flashing on the button panel. Do you know that could be the problem?

Laughin. Just happened to me No one is answering yet unless you guys figured it out. I did notice to make sure it’s closed before putting motor in And to make sure you push the middle frame lock like u had to do to release it I’m guessing Put the tarp back on and try again tomorrow.

Great job! I just bought some Mini. Everything looks nice, but one small problem. At 9:04 You pushed in the latch. In my Mini this latch on the left side is moving just little bit, on the right side is moving a lot more. How to adjust it properly?

I have the same problem. It seems that maybe it isn't aligned. The releases don't seem to release at the same time. I get a grinding noise and the light flashes. Please let me know if you ever found an answer. Thanks

Hi, thank you for these, saved our roof and our Mini. A question - when the roof closes, the right locking mechanism (top part of the claw) goes in correctly HOWEVER it is not flush with the frame, 1-2 mm gap so a rattle over bumps. Have people seen this and a solution to adjusting the claw - is it possible to adjust the top of the claw position? Thanks in Advance!!

Hello, Thanks for your excellent videos. As I posted before I had to cut off the end of the cable and cut the helix back a bit as the end of the cable was in such a poor state. I hoped this would not affect things but the roof now pulls back to the sunroof position on both sides so the cable works to here. On the second press of the button the windows go down and the front clamps unlock, the roof goes back a fraction more then I get the dreaded red flashing light on the button and nothing else happens. I have checked the micro switches in the boot both for the lever and the parcel shelf and they both seem to be pressed as required as it the boot / trunk closed switch. All the fuses seem OK and the rear motor does seem to do its thing on closure, which only happens once I have switched the ignition off and on again. Do you have any ideas what might still be wrong. Have I, by shortening the cable created a problem at the other end? Is there some mechanism / switch at the far end of the cable that has to be pushed that the shorter cable is not reaching and so the second stage is thinking it's not completed its first stage retraction. Getting a bit desperate (and it's such a shame as the cable now seems to be doing its job great) so any help would be really appreciated. Cheers, Joe

hello i repaired che top like u did, snd now it works, but onli the first part of the top. When it has to unlook and go back the second portion doesn't work, the second motor doesn't start at all. I wonder if the first motor doesn't reach a certain position the second motor doesn't start, or maybe ther's an error in the eprom that has to be cleaned

drillr89 Hi the problem I had was when we glued the cable we pushed it through to much so the cable wasn’t hitting the micro switch to start the hydraulic pump. So ended up buying a new set. Installing them tomorrow. Will update when installed.

@@drillr89 Good afternoon. The roof now works. We ended up buying a new cable and mechanisms. The problem we had was when we repaired the cable we shortened it slightly so it wouldn't hit the micro switch. But all works now.

For everyone who can't disassemble the broken latch 'cause it's stuck, please read carefully my post here www.drive2.ru/l/510279499233886493/. It's in Russian, but it has pictures and you can use google translate. I solved that problem today. You need to disassemble the plastic cover near windscreen and remove metal plate of the latch.
