Good to see you working on combustion area, brings back memories when I did it in 1978, But I gasflowed all the inlet and exhaust ports too, and matched the manifolds so there were no shoulders. I used an engine from an Austin 1100 automatic, which has a cooper head to compensate for the auto losses.

Again your attention to detail is fantastic, back in the day we would never drempt of checking the depth and machining the valve spring recesses in the head. I assume that all the work on the valve seats was done because the originals were in bad condition and couldn't be refurnished. By the way we just hammered the guides straight in lining them up by eye, never had any problems with them not being straight. Eagerly awaiting the next episode.

Most excellent workmanship Paul, the process you use is the same as we use on our race heads, we still lap and polish the seats.

Thanks folks, ya we do polish our valves after they come back but honestly with the CNC tec I am always blown away by the sealing of the valves

A great pleasure to watch you work, there is no substitute for doing it properly. I was a mechanic in a BMC dealer in the 60s and specialised in Mini, Mini Cooper and 1100s so this brings back lots of memories. When removing material from the combustion chambers you increase the volume so, how do you deal with the effect on compression ration and balancing the chamber volumes? Have a I missed a video somewhere along the line?

Thanks for the great video, your tips are very interesting. My good friend was from Larn in the north so you sound the same! We have a shop in Sidney BC Canada and my son has a channel called Richard Michael Owen if you want a wee gander.

Hi, really interesting video, can i ask how this work effects the compression ratio?
@HREIRL

Great Question Steve, in the final Instalment when the valve seats are cut we will do a volume measurement on the combustion chamber. We will then skim the heads untill we reach the factory standard for this model

Why remove the inlet valve seat?
@HREIRL
@HREIRL 2 жыл бұрын
Because both seats are overlapping each other so by lowering the inlet and Exhaust seat it allows us to Produce two Fresh new seats
