In this video I'm going through the process of upgrading the headlights on my Mini Cooper S R56 to Spec-D Tuning F56 Style LED Tube DRL Projector Headlights in Gloss Black. The headlights came without instructions so it took longer to install than I expected

the fog lights are separated into two portions, the top half being the dlr and the bottom being the actual fog light. you can hook up the drl LED to the top segment DRL and it should work

Yes, these would fit any r56 Mini Cooper S and JCW versions. You can check for sure at wheel-size.com, that’s where I always check for wheel and tire compatibility.

Read up on headlight adjustment to get better details. It's been a while for me. You should be casting an ALMOST level beam 20ft out from car on passenger side with driver side dipped a couple of inches lower. Passenger side is higher to illuminate street signs. Both should be aimed slightly to the side of the road to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

I don't know which bulbs are used in F55 headlight, but I've upgraded my Z4 recently and really like the ones I used in the video. They have different sizes, so you just have to make sure it's the ones your Mini needs. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3nagqiaYq9ontU

Hey man I know it’s a little late but I just picked up a set of these, I’m having trouble wiring them, am I supposed to cut the thick blue wire or just slide it into the quick connector?? I’m not very good with electrics lol

You should have 2 loose wires, one connects to ground and the other to the wire that goes for main bulb. This will make your ‘daylight’ (the ring) light up when then headlights are on.

Hi! I’ve bought the same lights 2 weeks ago, I was thinking about sending them back because I have an issue: When I turn on the contact (without the engine running) everything works fine. When I start the engine, the high beam doesn’t work. Since you know all about the electronics from those headlights by now...:) I’m praying that you can help me!!! Unfortunately it seems that there are different versions of these headlights. Some that work but will throw a code and some that don’t have any codes but don’t work. What have you tried? Did you have to wire anything or did they come prewired?

Did you get the warning light on the dash? I switched mine out a while back & had the warning light on all the time. One light would even turn off at times.

No, I would only get a light on the dash when using high beams.

Hey I saw you sold this car a year ago but I just installed these headlights today and Im having an issue - when the high beams are on with the engine running the top seems to flicker up and down - almost like the shutter for the high beams isnt staying still. Do you have this issue? were your high beams stable with the engine running?

SimpleCarGuy I fixed them! The headlight headlight bulb is an h11 so I just oredered an LED h11 bulb off amazon - same for the fog lights but those are h8 bulbs! All LED easy to switch

It's built into the headlight; however, it does not function like normal. Some models of this headlight will have it where you can only flash and others will have it working fine but you will get a warning on the dash.

@@SimpleCarGuy I think we have a mistake here, all changing system of car flashes has to get this component, and I used to listen the "click" of the relay component, but I don't listen now.

@@andrescalador Have you checked that all of the wires are correctly connected? When I got mine, one of the wires (green, i think) was connected to a different color wire. I had to reattach it properly.

Everywhere I see the headlights for sale it says that the high beam is locked out. Does that mean the high beams don't work?

I’m not sure what they mean exactly, but mine works fine. I do get an error saying the high beam bulbs are out, but you can flash the high beams etc.

So, it’s not a separate bulb that lights up. What it does is flip the decider and your regular bulbs becomes your high beams as it’s fully exposed now. It works though, they stay on no problem.

How you edjust the curve light to flat light

When it's curved, that usually means the high beams are on. You also have 2 screws on the back that allow you to adjust the flat line up, down and side to side.

SimpleCarGuy the two screws on the back were only for going up and down as well as left and right, but could not for flat light, i have try to see inside the lamp but its not flat,

Sounds like your headlight is stuck the ‘brights’ mode. Check to make sure the relay is wired correctly there. Mine wasn’t on one of them. I think it was two thin wires and red went to black and black went to red (obviously shouldn’t). I switched them over and it worked fine since.

No, you can’t do that. You have to buy r56 after market headlights that were made to look like f56

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘dazzling’ and I haven’t noticed the shutter movement. They do ‘shake’ on big bumps, though
