Bro your awesome!!! I watched a KZbin video on replacing the water pump and absolutely nothing that I tried worked and watching your video and how you explained it really made a huge difference one thing that I couldn't find was the low profile ratchet so I paused the video blew it up and researched the emblem that tool made the job possible, maybe you should edit your video and or give a link on where to purchase the mini ratchet, thank you so much 1000 times over YOU THE MAN!

Good video Hugh. I had to change the plastic feed tube recently and it was a pig of a job. Had to take off the inlet manifold and of course the thermostat. Plastic components on an engine are bad news. 😢

I think we can thank the French for these troublesome engines in the Gen 2 Minis. No wonder they changed for the Gen 3 range.

Yes and no. The 'Prince' engine is a joint venture between PSA and BMW. PSA provided the block as BMW had only rear drive units and BMW provided much of the valve tech - certainly the VVC bits. The next gen Mini shares all engines with BMWs as the engines are now modular 3,4 or 6 pot with 500cc pistons. They have their problems too - the expensive one I am seeing at the moment is the exhaust camshaft magentic wheel starts to move which throws the engine management and the camshafts are £500+ each and a big job to change.

How did you know the water pump needed to be replaced?

You usually see a leak and possibly a coloured residue which is the dye from the coolant

About how much would they charge for this at a shop? My Mini Cooper is leaking coolant and I need to get it fixed

do you know how to not get the spark plug socket stuck? also, how do I get the stuck socket out?

Remove the rubber from inside the socket and use a long reach magnet to remove the spark plug.

Tape the socket to your extension with duct tape so they dont separate

Can't you remove the water pump without removing the belt and engine mount from the engine?

Old question, but the correct answer is yes.. you can do everything from the fender well, without touching anything under the hood itself. Only have to free the tensioner for access after taking the fender liner out.
