This video shows you how to install an engine water pump on your 2007-2013 Mini Cooper. The water pump keeps coolant flowing through your engine. Common failures of the water pump will leave the coolant leaking, or stagnant. Both will lead to overheating if left untreated. Install a new engineered to fit water pump from TRQ for total peace of mind.
This repair was done on a 2012 Mini Cooper Base 1.6L Hatchback 2-Door FWD Manual and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:

Doing a 2010 right now, everything he says is pretty accurate with the exception of the top bolt on the water pump. Nearly impossible to get at. I've been working on it for over an hour and I'm ready to punch something

The best video so far about replacing the water pump! Removal of the water pump pulley followed by the tensioner pulley allowed a better access to the pump. Other videos either demonstrated struggle to maneuver the pump or dismantled half the car to do the job. 👍

Took me 8 hours to get this done on our 2012 Mini Cooper S Countryman. I would like to know what special tool? That darn tentioner took the longest to get those bolts out. After doing this job I can only think of a 10mm flex rachet wrench, S-Shape Rachet wrench, Offset wrench, or halfmoon rachet wrench to make things go smoother and reduce time. This was my first time changing a water, so the video was a mig help and guid to know what to expect.

I spent 9 hours doing the tensioners without the water pump, it wqas awful. I pulled the motor mount and intercooler pipes and hung the engine for more space to work. A through socket wrench or extremely low profile socket and wrench is what teh special mini tool looks like

This can't be a 2008 cooper. The 2008 has even less space to remove things. Don't get me started on the water pipe. If I ever meet the engineer who designed this car there is going to be a misunderstanding!

Oh awesome, I totally thought I would have to remove my thermostat housing AGAIN! I just replaced my thermostat last month and lo and behold, my water pump goes out! Byebye A/C byebye coolant circulation byebye engine fan lmao... Fortunately, this is a 20 minute video on the job. This looks very doable and I don't have to clear half the engine bay to reach it.

I'm curious, wouldn't leaving the tension on the pulley tensioner help keep the water pump pulley from spinning so you can r&r the bolts?

I put a jacl under the engine and took the motor mounts off and worked from above. It was easier and the top bolts were easier to get at. Buy some shorty sockets and the wrench also. Got a torque wrench on the pump bolts at 9 nm.

It's much easier to remove the engine mount, you can the raise or lower the engine wth a jack.. it will save so much time and skin from your knuckles

Ive found it easier to just remove engine mount and lift or lower engine how ever need to remove it.

Why did you install a water pump that was different from the original. In the video the original water pump has a casting hole with a plug that is clearly visible. The water pump you put in doesn't have this and the water pump you put in looks like it has an electrical plug on the side.
