Mini Dapple Dachshund Gracie | How Is Her New Training Going? | Nervous Reactive Dachshund |

We have started new lessons with a company called Love Of Dogs based in Wakefield area. They do lots of classes but have great ones for reactive dogs which is exactly what we needed for Gracie. We are on lesson 4 and she is started to show some great signs of improving so I thought I would show you.
Our History
We were only getting one puppy, Gracie but then fell in love with Sapphire, Saffy for short and couldn't let her go. Mum is a black and tan and Dad is a chocolate dapple. Gracie is a silver dapple and Saffy is a silver dapple with white. We are fully aware of double dapple issues but she was not bred from two dapples and is very healthy so far. We would not breed from her either.

She's so adorable too. My big daschund can still be like that in new surroundings, or new people coming into the house. It''s like he must alert/defend at all cost!! I'm sure she'll get there Pippa xx

She's still adorable. Good luck! Our dax is nervous of everything but he's lovely. He didn't get much socialization when he was younger, which in our case is what I suspect is the main cause of his problem.

Yes, I think when we tried to socialise Gracie it was just too much for her, hoping she continues to improve slowly but she's such an angel at home, thanks for watching xx

Awesome. Haven’t checked in for awhile and was wondering how Gracie’s training was going. My weenie girl is a little reactive too… has a very high ‘prey’ drive. Has gotten better now she is older but there is little to be done about the prey drive. Seems it’s built in to the dog’s makeup. 💕🐾🐾💕

Hi, thanks, she's on a very slow improvement journey. We are getting better with people, lots of training walks with just me and using really high reward treats (chicken, cheese etc) but even then she sometimes go above food distraction with seeing other dogs. Prey drive must be similar, hard to get their attention. We do go to a lovely field where Gracie has a great time hunting but as you say it's something we just have to accept in her character, keeps us busy though!! 🐕🐶x
