Bruce just a thought!! use a dremel and cut a hole where the wings go.. wings well cover it, might have some rework to do but would be sufficient i think..

Yeah Bruce, I've rarely seen you so spent at the end of a build. Well, it's better to have frustration at the bench than in the air, and those original servos seemed iffy at best. Plus, by persevering you now have a sense of completion and another video helping your subs make better decisions, rather than a nagging desire for closure that an uncompleted problem build can foster for those of us who love the hobby. I am looking forward to seeing it soar.

Bruce, since I'm one of the folks that said you should do whatever it took to make it fly, I now want to say WELL DONE! That was a great video and I enjoyed it immensely. Btw, it takes me 8 hours to build and fit out a Flite Test Mighty Mini, but I feel pretty good when I get something I've labored on in the air. However, if you want to use that DLG as shotgun fodder, I would understand that too. Hope you do find a place to fly it though and I hope those "grumpy old men" give you your license back -- how ridiculous that crap is...

Hey Bruce, Ive noticed that whenever I use the LiFe batteries directly to the rx, then to an analog servo, there is that weird wobble thing, but when I went to a 2s lipo, and a bec, it works like a charm! GreaT review bruce! Cant wait to see it flying!

Rough build Bruce, but you made it through! I think everyone with a little bit of mechanical ability should just stick with the kits or the ARF stuff. It will give you a little artistic license and makes the plane more or your own! It's a shame that it took you so long to prepare a PNF. I feel sorry for those who bought this and had very little idea of what they were getting into. Good on you for sticking with it!

Yet another valuable contribution to the RC field, I'm tempted to try a DLG later and this will have saved me a whole bunch of hassle. Thanks. So you are not safe to use anything over 100g within.... words fail me, those people in MFNZ have minds narrower than a HK 1m DLG hatch, with fat serovs glued, and the lid on.

Hey, you mentioned a couple times about some of your servos having an incompatible plug, by that I take it that they had the JR style plug with the little tab and I just wanted to say that with some careful scalpel work it is quickly and easily removed and works and looks just like a normal style plug. Keep up the good work :)

some of the smaller sub micro servos come with a different style of connector entirely. 1.5mm micro-jst. they're on some of frsky's micro indoor receivers etc. There are adaptors available for converting them to the standard 2.5mm pitch plugs though

Bruce - as a beginner, are all RX quite happy with a two cell Lipo and 7.2volts or have you got a UBEC in that test setup circuitry that I can't see?

Hi Bruce, Looking at buying DLG, currently flying copters and quads. I have Walkera 2801 pro RX and a spare TX. What size TX will fit. Mine is 39X28.5X14.5mm as it is an 8 chan. I'm finding it difficult to find micro TX's for my RX.

Looked like a hard build. The reason I like Horizon here in the US a bit more expensive than HobbyKing but at least you know the models will build and fly well.

Bruce, would you recommend a DLG as a first plane for someone who has only flown quadcopters? If so, any recommendations, since this one blows so hard?

Catman, for a my first model I got an AXN floater jet from hobbyking, Bruce has a series on the plane and he absolutely loves it, it's easy to fly, repair and can take a crash well, it's also very cheap and you have the choice of PNF or ARF, if you want any advice e-mail me at jeremyheath402@gmail.com :)

I probably wouldnt recommend it as DLG's have their own nuisances, get a simple trainer like a Bixler or AXN floater to start with!

watch flitetest beginner series ......and i also vote no on dlg for your first plane get a bixler or anx or any trainer plane that has a motor ul want the power otherwise u pull up ur wing stalls and u crash .... have fun tho

Seems to me you could gain access to the whole inside of the fuse by just cutting a portion of the bottom off. Tape it back when you are done inserting all the bits.

All that pain just to prove the point of always buying the kit, and never the arf or pnf. Unfortunately with HK they often stock primarily the two latter in the regional warehouses.

this would be an easy fix try super glue remover to completely removing the servo tray.good servos for small dlg are Ripmax SD100 Servo you dont need a ubec they operate up to 7.2volts

the problem with hobbyking is the people packing/assembling these things arent hobbyists their just a bunch of randoms in china trying to make a dollar. however if youre willing to go through the time consuming process of HK customer service they will replace the faulty parts, or at the very least credit your account. the trick is getting in touch with north american CS even if your in NZ or UK or whatever they will help you. just be sure to keep in mind when purchasing HK brand products, the failure rate in my experience is 50% or more. if you dont want to wait fro replacement parts order extras. if any are faulty you can most likely get a refund if not you get extras for when you crash.

You could have used a smaller battery and add some lead to the nose and fly with the stock servos. Then you wouldn't have so much time into something that will never be as fun as a 250 mini quad. Ha! I've had duds like this before. A 15 size extra arf who's horizontal stabilizer was off a few degrees from the factory. Its was terrible and when it finally did go into the ground it was the only plane I've had where I felt relief after the crash. It was gone and I could move on.

A good video Bruce, I wish you wouldn't groan and moan so much though. I think most of us get that there is a lot of poor gear out there, it gets a little depressing to keep hearing the groans and sighs. =)

2007crf450r Just my 2 cents. While I agree with "a little grumbling would be in order" Bruce should have probably cut some out. This video while informative should not have been 16 min.

@hopeso
@hopeso 10 жыл бұрын
2007crf450r This is not a "build", this is an assembly. Build is when you get a box of sticks and formers and plans with a bit of hardware. Also plans where you have to glue all the pieces over, straight and accurate. Then you have to COVER the model with your choice of covering. THEN, if you like to jazz it up, apply trim which you have to cut out yourself after designing the colour scheme YOURSELF. Eight hours to get a glider into the air? Yes, you paid a lot for it, but a REAL kit might only cost a half and then you have to spend 20 to 50 hours of your shop time. Apply minimum wage to that,,,,, Just my 5 cents.

hopeso I bought the bare bones version. I'm going to be using a Lemon receiver, www.lemon-rx.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=92 which is full range and a NiMh pack, it's some 200mAh, 1/3 AAA, I think. LOTS of room in that well formed and compact pod. I'll not be using the servo tray, I'll be using servo tape. Why use Lipos and a UBEC and a voltage booster? With no motor, just two servos and an Rx,, 200mAh will last all day. If you catch a thermal and stay up for 2 hours, no worries, you're not hawking the servos around as with a powered model. I've been flying gliders for years, works for me. Mine had a slight warp, just turn on your ELECTRIC stove element, wave the wing panel around, top and bottom till it's just warm, twist in the other direction and Bob's your Uncle.

Don't want metal gears on a DLG. Particularly the elevator as they develop slop with wear and you have difficulty with centering. Unless you use pull spring controls which of course are best on a light DLG. Also not digital on smaller gliders as increased consumption. Best by far are still the slow analogue Dymond D47s with low consumption and good performance.

G'day Bruce, Well, technically, "Yay Team !", because 40% extra Weight for 5% extra Span and maybe 2.5% additional Area means it'll cut through the Sink SO Much faster, between the Thermals ; it's why the Human-Piloted Sailplanes take-off with so much Water-Ballast, the better to fly faster... But, otherwise ; here be a Haiku, for you...(!). Plug and Fly, Means... Weep, and Cry...! And on the strength of this, I would never ever buy ANYTHING which emanated from the RobbyKing Gang of Fraudulent Thieves. ;-p Ciao !
