Great video - a really good demo of this mini humbucker. Thank you for making the video.

I am lucky to have MrGlyn mini humbucker in neck position as well, really dig it too! I'm mainly a single coilguy but the mini humbucker is great for me too, gives me still the feel of single coil with a the humbucker touch as well. Cool by me!

Nice! Yes I’d agree, it does have a touch of single coil but warmth too. I dig

Thanks Nick - I love this channel. So different and interesting every day. As a designer and builder I am interested in what works for real musicians - not just more switches for the sake of it! The Brent Mason Tele has a mini HB in the neck too - I enjoyed listening to him talk about his guitar. You comments about balance chime with me - my Super Tele had a hot HB in the bridge, but the default was a PRS split in position 1. You can pull the tone pot for the full-fat 16k when needed. This also split really nicely with the strat middle and hb P90 in the neck - although maybe a mini HB would have been better - maybe in the future. I like the shape of that Ibanez - not a million miles from my custom shape.

Thanks! Yes, the balance between pickups is really important to me. I’m not so keen on switching pickups and getting a sound a world away from what it does. But that might just be me

Cool setup with that strat pickup in the middle. I have a Tele style with a regular humbucker in the neck, while I do love the tone of the middle setting, the humbucker does overpower the single coil.
@NickGranville3 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s been my experience too, a humbucker in the neck will over power a single coil, usually. That’s where a mini comes in handy
@joeshoe61843 ай бұрын
@@NickGranville it didn't really occur to me till you said something, but yeah, you can barely hear the single coil.

Yeah, it’s a common thing, but not always a bad thing - if it works for you then cool

Would you consider doing a video on spec’ing your ultimate guitar ? Would be great to see ! Regards from Scotland !

Possibly! But I’m still formulating what I’d do if given the opportunity. Maybe one day

Nice setup. I don’t have any mini humbuckers but may be I should. Oh no, is that another guitar obsession? 😁

I tried one but I couldn’t get along with it. I recently put a set of the Fender Cobalt Chrome pickups in my Tele and it is honestly the best sounding Tele neck pickup I’ve ever heard!
@NickGranville3 ай бұрын
@@officialWWM nice, I don’t know the Colbolt pickups, I’ll check them out. If they work for you then awesome. Thing I find is every guitar is different, so some might suit having a mini hum and others it just doesn’t work and a regular tele or even a strat pickup works better
@officialWWM3 ай бұрын
@@NickGranville the are Fenders newest pickups. They sound amazing, really quite different to anything else I’ve tried. Not a noiseless design but they have these new kinda covers that almost completely kill the hum. You gotta have the gain up pretty high to hear it. Only downside is that they are ridiculously expensive! $450 a set here in Oz, so probably even worse in NZ!

Sounds interesting. And yep, we pay ridiculous prices for everything in Nz

I even love the Firebird mini pickups Nick.... they rock too.... Mr Fabulous Guitars in Melbourne makes great pickups. I've bought ones he calls the Bigbird which are Firebird pickups made into humbuckers. He does mini's as well.... check them out....I'd love a Les Paul with Mini humbuckers in it... but.. sadly finding a lefty like that are next to none.
@Paul_Lenard_Ewing3 ай бұрын
The Firebird is even a better choice. Unlike a standard HB design with one large magnet running flat across both bottom of the coils there are 2 thin magnets one dropped inside each coil. The magnet therefore pulls the sound in the same manner as a Fender single coil. As a result you get a faux Strat sound but without the noise nor the loss of the highs and chime that even a standard mini HB loses.
@ZalMoxis3 ай бұрын
@@Paul_Lenard_Ewing Yeah I've got some of those too....

Yes, I have the area T in my tele and 2 of the area strat pickups in my AZ guitar. All work well. Not 100% like a true single coil but 99% the way there and quiet so that cool
@smarfmart2 ай бұрын
How is your 5 way switch configured? I was confused how you were able to do bridge + neck like on a normal tele.
@NickGranville2 ай бұрын
@@smarfmart it’s wired like a strat but with the middle position being the bridge & Neck like a tele. So the middle pickup isn’t accessible on its own, which is fine. I find on this guitar that’s more what I like.
