This video shows how to build an aluminum frame for a custom wooden DIY PC Case made from wood and aluminum.
Watch my full build that shows all the computer components I used and how the woodworking was completed.
• Mini ITX Computer and ...
Watch how the frame rails are measured, marked, cut, drilled and formed to make a fun and cool custom computer case for a mini ITX motherboard. I go through many steps including how to drill and tap a threaded hole. The different screws needed for the build. How to custom fit the frame to your power supply.
I chose the Mini ITX motherboard because I like the compact nature. It is the smallest motherboard format that allows you to install a full featured CPU, Graphics Card, 2 sticks of ram and either 1 or 2 SSD Solid State Drives.
Another key component to minimize the sizes is the SFX power supply. This form factor also reduces the foot print of your machine.

It's impressive you did everything with hand tools and I'm also impressed with your camera angle. It's spot on!

I love this build, the possibilities with this frame are endless, I think a complete acrylic version would be amazing looking or maybe even a carbon fiber version :D

Good work!! 👍👍 The axial compressive strength of commercially available aluminum frames can reach 3 to 5 tons!! Such a case is much tougher than those cases made of cold rolled galvanized steel sheet. Building a computer case by aluminum frames is really an enjoyable thing for DIY.

i think i’m going to try to do something similar to this with thinner aluminum that i got off of a broken tent/pavilion thing at a festival, but what i’m thinking is putting the back panel of an oem pc case onto the metal so i won’t have to buy standoffs, and have some wood on another side to mount fans and other things, or just have them mounted to the metal

Could you make a version of this that’s all metal, the wood kinda hurts the aesthetic

thank YOU for such detail video - you did EXACTLY about what i think. (except that I would not put 4 legs - there is no need for them ...) 1-very simply construction. 2-everybody can repeat after you and receive exactly same result. this is very important - accessibility to everyoune. 3-minimal used space inside case exactly hwat needed and nothing esle. 4-And even under mainboard are space and if just move aside PSU on 2-3cm we can put low profile GPU!

I have a question… wouldnt this have a risk of electricity if the case is made of aluminum 😢?
@paulchurchill5598

So far so good! A normal metal case is conductive too. The motherboard mounting holes metal linings to allow grounding to the case. I definitely though about this before I built it and glad it's not a problem.
