Mini Lure Rotator - For coating lures with UV resin

If you want to coat your lures with a nice thick layer of UV resin, a lure rotator is a really good idea. It prevents the resin from running and dripping, and gives you a nice surface. This rotator is meant for smaller batches of line through lures, but can probably be modified for other small lures as well.
I used 15 mm plywood board - Here are the sizes of the pieces:
1 Base: 28 * 17 cm
3 Sides: 6,5 * 17 cm
1 Back: 13 * 17 cm
1 motor plate: 6,5 * 8 cm
Disc: 9,5 cm diameter

Nicely done...I have been meaning to do a video of building a simple rotator for UV since the one I made for me was a bit complex and can intimidate many DIY folks. Thank you this was a very simple and clean build, as usual, I'm sure lots of folks will find it helpful and accessible. Nice work.

Thanks. This certainly was simple, but very effective. Just need to figure out a disc for small crankbaits and such. Shouldn't be too difficult though

Morgen, nice video. I built a larger box and in speaking with the company where I got my lights, they recommended using aluminum foil as well but suggested rumpling it up; that increases the actual reflective services and eliminates dead spots.

Its a good point, but as it is glue to a "raw" wood surface, it really doesn't reflect like a mirror. Also the lures are rotated, so they dont stay at the same spot. So I think I am covered. But making a box of mirrors would not be a good idea. Thanks for your input anyways

@@kamarte This one you cast and retrieve - Not steadily but with shifting speed and spinstops - For danish seatrout that is. For other species I don't know

@@kamarte Brown trouts (in Denmark) is actually the same species as seatrout. Browns just stay in the river while seatrout migrate to the sea. Just lige rainbows and steelheads I guess

Great video. I would suggest getting a impact driver drill. Assembly would be much quicker and easier to take apart if there are issues, but just a suggestion.

I just started painting My Own fishing lures A month ago I have not used the UV clear coat yet But I have Clear-coated two different ways one with a brush like you did and the othe I dipped it The end result I think dipping it In the clear coat Versus brushing it it turned out better in the end I do not use a rotator I just hang it and use a drip wire on the bottom of the bait where the hooks and split ring would go on the bait The drip wire stops the pulling of the clear coat and Drips down the wire and off the bait

I’m starting into make lures and I realized that this uv resin smells like polyester resin so I research a bit and found that there is a kind of polyester resin that is uv cured and is mainly used for coating surf boards. I got 1kg for 20€ inc. shipping here in Spain.

Hi Dave. It seems to hold up just as well as the epoxy I have used on other lures. So I will be using it from now on I think - Until I find something even better :D

I haven't used uv yet on my sea trout lures, just 4 layers of clear hycote lacquer from a spray can so this will save me a bit of time. I have considered it, but never tried it. As I don't have a resin printer, I have no idea how hard and thick it gets.

Great simple idea but only I need clamps that spin on a solid axis while end by motor will hv small electronics clamps, trying to figure out how to attach alligator. lol on opposite end that will spin along with motor end, I want to do one lure at a time. Shoukd not take more than at max time 10-15 mnts to dry enough I can hang to finish curing and hv resin dry enough not to drip a ball while one is drying I will be airbrushing another one I’m not a manufacturing plant, not selling them yet at least, not yet, I’m giving them away. I’d hv to make several hundred to make a boat payment no way I could make that many abs be happy with them ya know, I just need to make a UV resin Drying rack that has clamps on each end to hold lure while lamps are in on each side, using 45 watt UV flood lights just going to mount them across from each other and lure turning inbetween two flood lamps a long 1 1/2” away from lamp so it will cure enough I can hang it w/o runs or balling. Shouldn’t be hard just need to figure a way to make the tail end clamp adjustable lengthways

I'm sure you could modify this build with a disk in both ends and a axis that goes all the way through. Thereby you could have an aligator clamp in both ends. second disk sould be moved back and forward to acomodate different bait sizes just by moving the nuts that hold the disk in place

What kind of “pins” are you using to hold the lures?

It's just small pieces of wire. If you bend them a bit the will "lock" in the canal

to me UV resisn is much better than epoxy which is often have suprise and often use lots of brushes . what a waste
