@Andrew-xd9fgКүн бұрын
I wouldn’t go banging the sds end on rock/concrete to free up/unclog the sleeve. It will wear the black plastic retention out. I already knows this because I sent one of the new Bosch bits in for warranty after 120 holes
@BoltahDownunderКүн бұрын
Good point, if you do need to get the sleeve off you have to separate the pins that hold the bit in. Also, they're guaranteed to last 150 holes aren't they? Pretty good if you got a new one after 120
@Andrew-xd9fgКүн бұрын
I wasn’t aware they claim a guarantee of 150 holes. I got at least 1000 holes from a Hilti hollow bit and it’s still going, sure is probably drilling under sizes. I’m waiting on Bosch to send a replacement to the store. If I was Hilti they would replace on the spot. The new Bosch bits do not like drilling through re bar, the bits of metal bind in the sleeve an jam it up. My experience has taught me, once I hit re bar with dustless bits, stop and swap of to a Bosch or Hilti 4 cutter, failing that a re cutter bit and then once through the bar, back to the dustless bit.
@BoltahDownunderКүн бұрын

10:08 great test! Don't think anyone's measured before and after diameters before
@BoltahDownunderКүн бұрын
I've been collecting will bits to test for longevity and they're actually pretty durable, so measuring diameter wear is the easy way to rank them. So far I've learned that I need to try something other than drill a thousand (literally) holes in granite to get through them all. It'd be great to say ‘X bits get 97 holes’ but that's just not realistic
@toolscientistКүн бұрын
@BoltahDownunder are you timing each hole? A graph of drill-time vs holes-drilled would be fairly good. Ideally it'll be linear and then you can just extrapolate your findings. Start with one bit and see how many holes before the trend becomes obvious.
@BoltahDownunderКүн бұрын
Yep that's another option. A bit harder to do logistically because I'd need a large stone with mains power available. Corded drill, big dust extractor, not in my backyard, etc. To get a measurable difference it still takes 20-50 holes so finding a good site to do *lots* of drilling is a challenge. Did you see this? It gives an idea of what's involved kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoWtfH94mdGjZq8

@BoltahDownunder rent a generator 😄 Or convince yourself that you need an ecoflow
@toolscientistКүн бұрын
3:06 it's to allow minimum airflow to vac. Many vacs use the sucked airflow to cool the motor. Block the flow too much and motor overheats. You'll often find those vents on crevice attachmemts for vacuums.

No worries! Did it answer your question from the other video too? Personally I don't think you'd need a ring extractor to catch that first bit of dust, just start the hole slowly and it should handle that. Or use a stronger vacuum

Electrician here Had Hikoki equipment since i started my electrical apprenticeship back in 2005 - Only ever had 2 drills die (one left in the rain, one dropped from a scissor lift-both by the apprentice) Still have batteries dated 2010-2011 (reserved to the shed to retire) that still hold a really decent charge. Still have a couple of my old drills in use but have upgraded twice since then to newer models Never had a dodgy tool, never had a dud battery (bought 12x in total in my career(6x of being the later multivolts) and never had problems. In the same time, ive seen first hand a lot of team red guys (milwaukee) have dodgy batteries and triggers 6 months into tool ownership New makita feels like its a shadow of its former self Dewalt - no experience with so cant talk Bosh- the small amount of trade mates I see them with seem to be fine Their only problem with hikoki - limited tool range compared to the other big brands (esp compared to team red)
@BoltahDownunder5 күн бұрын
Great info, thanks mate. The longevity is something I can't test but it helps to get experienced opinions. And it sure does seem that over time, most brands have slightly reduced their build quality compared to 10-15 years ago

So i was going to get the HR007 after reserch and this video, untill i seen the tiny but mighty HR010G is so much smaller than both them 2 , but on all reviews and tests i have seen , it keeps up with these two big machines and even though only rated 20mm holes it looks like could easily do same as these two. What are your thoughts on getting The little but mighty HR010G over HR007G AND HR001G in this video. I have to choose weekend. Its like the small hr010 shouldnt be as powerfull as it is, maybe new technology has helped. On paper i think hr010 is better especislly taking in size that hr001. Still think hr009 probally bigger hitter. Any comment be great from someone who tried them
@BoltahDownunder7 күн бұрын
I think if you're looking at getting 2 then the 010 and 001 would compliment each other pretty well. One for smaller tasks and one for larger. It helps to go into a store and handle them to get an appreciation of size I've compared them in this videokzbin.info/www/bejne/mKjFmZeBisyHnrc , and the 009 in a later video. If you search for that the speed tests are cumulative so you'll be able to compare all of them on the graphs after the tests

Realistically speaking, how does one begin bolting? How do you decide how much practice you'd want to do on your at-home chunk of rock before attempting to bolt an anchor or a route?
@BoltahDownunder10 күн бұрын
Ideally you get some local developers to mentor you in the nuances and tactics that work best in your area. You can practice heaps with the technical parts like bolt installation but the ethics, land management issues, etc is all down to local situations. A good place to ask is the route development subreddit www.reddit.com/r/RouteDevelopment/s/ChkYD2M9v7

How is the 183 more expensive than the 182 when they both have dust extraction capabilities. Could someone explain to me why I have to upgrade to the 183 or even consider it as a first time buyer?
@halumie36017 күн бұрын
Because the 183 has the same 1.7J power as the 182 but has an ergonomic shape and is lighter. Helps work at height effectively, reducing hand fatigue when working continuously.

You gotta pull the bit in and out when going down that’s why you got the big puff of dust. The bit drills more out creating more when clogs it up and slows down.

If my memory serves me correct, the green bosch hammer you have drills at 2000 rpm or something like that, which would be more ideal with these accessories. Universal Hammer 18v or something I think it was called. The torque might of course be a problem though, as you’ve mentioned before
@BoltahDownunder25 күн бұрын
Yes in general you want higher speed for wood but if you're only doing rough holes, as opposed to something fine like in cabinetry, this low speed seems ok
