Yes I think you’ve got a good point there. This is my first year running these things so I was initially worried about the bees not sticking with the nuc and drifting away to a queenright hive if there’s no queen present, so I was a bit hasty putting the virgin in. The other thing is I’m just a weekend beekeeper so I have to just do things while I’ve got the time and hope for the best

I have been looking into start using these mini nucs . How long do you usually leave a new queen in these before you pull her ??. Thanks

Ideally you only leave the queen for 3 weeks to allow her to start laying. Then sell her or use her in a full size hive.

@@bennybeekeeper Thank you that is about what I was thinking. Just did not know how fast they would plug out these small frames . I am planning on getting some of those nucs I think they will work out great for me . Thanks

What state are you in? There’s pretty strict rules about sending bees to other states that I don’t fully understand

@bennybeekeeper Canberra. It's allowed as long as its not from a known varroa area. If you're geared for sales then great, otherwise it's okay, accept it as a compliment. I'm enjoying your bee vlogs, thanks. 😊

I was watching a video by a breeder in the states a bit ago (sorry forgot who exactly) and he was saying when introducing virgins to make sure they are hopelessly queenless first. I notice from your vids you seem to get quite a few rejections. Perhaps that's the issue give em a few more days till the larvae is too old and they have no choice but to accept the virgin.

Possibly Cory Steven's? Steven's Bee Co? He suggests removing the old queen, in 6 or 7 days remove all queen cells that they have made, then the next day place your cells. This way they have no queen, no one to make one, and they're more likely to take what you give them.
