I have one orchid that i got last May for mother's day and she is still with us!! I'm trying to learn all i can about her so she thrives. I'm going to try my first repotting in Spring. Thanks to your channel, it has been super helpful!! ❤

I wasn’t sure I could keep an orchid alive, but not only did it thrive but I have a flower spike that is quite long now. I can’t wait to see it bloom again!

Thank you for talking about your kiekies and leaving a few of them. I've had my mother plant for about 2 years now and I'm learning a lot. My kiekies have kiekies and no roots... I'm hoping they will grow some soon so I can replant them. They are all on the spike and several inches above the potting mix. 'm glad they can just stay and grow. I don't want to kill my mother plant.

After 2 years, I finally have flower spikes on my "drug store" mini-phals. I need to find some pots like yours so I can repot into them (I've repotted twice from the original tiny pots they came in). Looking forward to seeing how the new blooms look!

I've learned so much from you, and owe all the success I have with my orchids to you. I too have flower spikes galore...yay! But what I'm most excited about is I have an orchid with TWO flower spikes ❤ This is the first year I've been able to achieve that with one of my orchids. You are awesome...love you! Thank you so much for all you do!

In November when the Catts were blooming like crazy, I was worried that I would not be getting many mini-phals to bloom. No or very few signs of flower stalks. Fast forward to January in Chicago, east window only, out of 18 minis about 15 are in amazing bloom. Mostly single stalks, but very nice flower sprays. Only have one window (5' x 8'), so I hung some chains from the ceiling, and attached small office supply baskets to them, and arrange the minis vertically. If they are flowering, I face them towards the inside of the room; if not, they get the outside baskets and more light. Seems to work like a charm! Have a great year, MOG!

I’m in Chicago too and I only have a couple of flower spikes! I’m afraid they aren’t getting enough light where they are- I may have to rearrange my grow spaces. 🤷🏻♀️

My phaelenopsis also all spiking here in Canada. After growing outside in summer I bring them into my cool dark basement and by November/December they start to spike. I bring them up into my dining room under led under cabinet lighting and they perform amazingly. Also had a terminal spike on one orchid that I cut off and from there came a keiki that has shot out 2 beautiful flowering spikes. Love your knowledge. 🇨🇦

Minis are so me. I have about 50 myself,never counted though. They love a lot of light and a lot of feeding. Some started spiking in august some in September. It’s been a great second year. And yes they do get big. Some of mine are in 5 inch pots and when I repot the rest this summer they will be going in the same size pot. So sad lol. They grew so fast.

Love my mini grocery store phals--they are definitely the "good kids" of the family! Never give me a moment's trouble. The Phal. Schilleriana I purchased recently, though... 😢 She suffered some significant mechanical damage during shipping, did not like the new medium I put her in, and is very sulky. I recently repotted again, this time into pure sphagnum moss, and maybe she likes it? It's too soon to tell. Do you have thoughts about care specific to my Phal. Schilleriana?

@ZhongGuo-s3h11 ай бұрын
Hi Danny I really need your advice please. I have a phalaenopsis orchid for 2 years and everything was perfect. I repotted it this year after all blooms were gone and a new leave started to grow, i do not know what went wrong but I have lost 5 leaves after that and the roots do not look good, it's not mushy but they are a lot of black, dry (not plumpy at al) roots, I cut them and repot it but i have no confidence it will save my orchid. I also noticed this new medium (wood bark, sphagnum moss, clay granules, cocomut coir) get dried very quickly, I need to water the orchid every 3 days (in the past I watered the orchid on weekly basis, sometime 10 days), I know it should not be something I worry about but I just do not know what caused the yellow leaves and dead roots and what else can I do to save my orchid? Thank you so much
@jerryt611211 ай бұрын
It sounds as if the orchid needs to concentrate on the new roots before it can concentrate on new leaves. It might be perfectly normal to lose leaves if the orchid doesn't have enough energy to survive without new strong root system. Could take months to do that, then grow new leaves, THEN spike this coming fall. The ROOTS are usually the answer.

Hi Danni I've been watching your channel for a long time, thank you for educating me and cultivating my love of Orchids. I have 14 P. Orchids. I have a question I have two that are over 5 -7 years old and they are huge and I can't find any pots that large enough (draining pots pot inside the planter pot😊)....do you know where I can get them?
@CarySpinka11 ай бұрын
When you say “mini” how large is that? I have 10 Phalaenopsis and I’m not sure if they’re mini. What is a standard size?
@aliciakey933311 ай бұрын
do you count the "age" from when you purchase them? So since I've had mine 1 yr, they're 1 yr old?
@MissOrchidGirl11 ай бұрын
Yes from purchase, but the orchids are older, it's hard to know how old. I usually say it's 3 years old in my collection, it's impossible to know how old the orchid really is :)

Hi Dany..i have a phalenopsis which has flower,leaves glossy ....but now leaves started becoming yellow..two leaves already fallen off... should I report this.. please do help me soon
@jerryt611211 ай бұрын
Depending on the age of the orchid, it's quite normal to lose the bottom most leaves, as the orchid grows newer ones from the crown. But if it hasn't been repotted in the last year or two, that could be what it needs. Check the roots!

@jerryt611211 ай бұрын
What a delightful problem to have! Lots of blooms to enjoy for months. Dani says don't repot until after the blooming phase unless it is realy needed, due to stress. If the roots are healthy and the flowers are still coming out, ENJOY and be patient to repot.
@jamespesaturo865911 ай бұрын
Mine aren't spiking at all they just stopped growing a full leaf which is strange to me because the leaves are a normal size like the older leaves on the plant and the roots are fine and also last year my orchid for some reason decided to grow a flower spike in April and then bloomed for three months from jun to August.Does anyone know why?(Also my house is 18 degrees and they are near a west facing window and they don't have any problems)
@ilisacalderon351311 ай бұрын
I thought we are supposed to use clear plastic pots with air holes on the sides?? I’ve not put mine back in their cache pots in order that they may receive air circulation. Is this incorrect??
@jhndr0nia11 ай бұрын
Depends on the conditions. If it is very humid and rather cool it makes sense to use very well airated pots but in hot and dry climates other setups work better. Stick to what‘s best for you. But the reason for clear pots is mainly to observe the roots (e. g. colour) to know when to water and repot but Phalaenopsis usually don‘t depend on the roots for photosynthesis
@Kanvil11 ай бұрын
what medium are your Phalaenopsis growing in?
@aryehwiesel520611 ай бұрын
I have over 100 phalaenopsis miniature, intermediate size, and standard and I get very few that produce multiple spikes per plant. I know the plant has the space and resources to do so, but they tend not to. Perhaps they need to be older.

Maybe not enough light
@jenniferkenny11 ай бұрын
Potentially not enough light, not enough fertilizer, or they have been stressed or set back in some way- damage, pests, old or bad media leading to root issues… how often do you repot?
