ALWAYS start by reading the HAYNES MANUAL,then buy the special tools needed eg drive shaft breaker tool, cone compressor tool and ball joint disconnecting tool,and about two other tools that an experienced mini mechanic needs,I wont explain what they are at this point. I can build minis but I cant produce my own computer video to help mini owners.A mini owners best friend though is a couple of cans of SPRAYLUBE, saturate the subframes with it.Your mini will last longer,be safer to drive and SAVE YOU A FORTUNE IN GARAGE REPAIRS.

We swapped a Mini engine and sub frame in one go! Literally lifted the body off engine and sub frame in one go, saves messing with those pesky lower engine mounts

i wish that i could work with the man,i have removed mini engines myself and he needs a lot of tips.....there is a special tool that splits the CV joints from the differential side of the gearbox,he needs to detach the top ball joint first..THen the top engine steady bar to ease the engine forward a bit to get the manifold and exhaust out of the way.

Always annoying when someone gives a solution weeks after the event but next time you do a full restoration or you know the subrames are coming off try this option: Keep the rear wheels on the ground Disconnect petrol and brake pipes at the back of the subframe Disconnect the clutch pipe Jack up the front of the car Remove the front wheels Support the car under the front subframe only on a dolly or ensure one can be slid under later Disconnect the steering rack clamp nuts from inside the car. Push the rack forward Disconnect the top RH engine stabiliser bar Remove the two subframe mounts in the front valence Remove the four rear subframe / body nuts from captive bolts Remove the two big top subframe bolts Remove the front shock absorbers Secure the engine hoist with straps to the front of the car body Lift the body off the subframe / engine Roll the subframe / engine / gearchange linkage with steering rack out from under the body Drop the body onto stands / supports This way you can leave the exhaust manifold, driveshafts and even the complete gearchange linkage on the floor still connected. The gearlever comes out easily with a bayonet type fitting from inside the car As I say sorry its late but hope this helps in the future. Refitting is the reverse and saves the risk of damaging engine bay paintwork.

Thats wrecked the gear selector rod then.The manual says its imperative to select REVERSE gear to extract the ROLL PINS.

Those bottom engine mounts are a bastard to get out and even worse to put back. call Mini Spares they offer a modification to make it easier.How did they do it on the production line?

THE CV JOINT DRIVE SHAFTS DO NOT POP OUT>YOU NEED A LUMP HAMMER and the TOOL.WOW he did it,but i hope he hasnt damaged the DIF casing.

FOR GODS sake remove the front wheels and look underneath, the drive shafts are preventing the engine from lifting ,this also would have made undoing the door hinge pin nuts easier to undo and he should have wire brushed the nuts clean and soaked the nuts with penetrating fluid the night before.

AAAAH ....undo the top ball joint and disconnect the CV joints USING THE TOOL,or risk wrecking the gearbox ,,,,,,,,,,I WANT TO HELP !!!!!!!

grind that manifold off the exhaust pipe and get it out of your way???

OF course he needs axle stands under the front subframe..
