Hi Matt. I've just got to say what an excellent build!!! Your attention to detail is phenomenal. Being a RF Engineer in a former life I was particularly impressed with the twisting of the servo wires, I do this on all my models also to reduce the unwanted common mode currents and unwanted RF re-radiation and induction. When weight isn't an issue I also fit ferrite chokes to noisy bits. Unfortunately my Talon is still in its box waiting to be put together, the mind is willing but the body is buggered 😜 . However I'm glad I've held off as you touched on areas I would have undoubtedly missed. Thanks for freely sharing your hard work. Regards. Nidge.
@RagTheNutsOff8 жыл бұрын
Howdy Nidge, thank you. It took me long enough! It was the laminating that too an age to do as there is a load of fiddly bits, the wings I had done in 30 minutes flat, but the fuse, well about 2 weeks! I will make an episode on the twisted cables as well, as they are only moderately more expensive than normal ones, but the quality is there to warrant their usage. Matt

Matthew Ogborne Yeah I watched the Maiden video! you seemed to have got it perfect! so would you Deffo recommend the cg being a little further up so it's slightly nose heavy?
@HallyFPV8 жыл бұрын
Hi just to clarify, the correct cog for this wing is 55mm from the leading edge on each wing its not on the servo wire which is around 66mm. The original manual which came with the Mini Talon was also incorrect as it had the cog listed at 75mm which was a misprint as this spot was for the full talon wing. Manual has now been updated by X-UAV to show 55mm is correct cog for this wing (Latest Manual is available from X-UAV website) There is a long thread regarding Mini Talon cog on rcgroups so just have a look and you will see. Cheers,

Hally FPV That would explain why soooooooo many people had issues with theirs then! Mines running nose heavy for sure, but it flies fine :) Matt

Howdy Hally, through it straight (so not nose up like a normal model) and hard, with loads of throttle to get the air speed up fast. They like to cruise at 30-40mph (40mph if they can), Matt

Yeah it will get a good straight toss, just going to try it bareback first but tempted to order a vector FC for it.

Matt, love the video. This is looking like my next plane. I have an email 2214/09 that's around 1100-1180kv. Would that be enough motor?
@RagTheNutsOff7 жыл бұрын
Howdy Daniel, it's quite a big model and I'm not sure how big the can size is on that motor. The SS 2216 1250Kv motor has a motor can size around 3cm deep, so if that 2214 is half the size, it might not be a good fit (or could be, not sure on that motor). The kv is around the right value though, hope that helps! Matt
@dbcustomrc7 жыл бұрын
Im on a tight budget and I have the emax on hand. its a little short on KV but the grams of thrust is within a few hundred of each other with Sunnysky being the higher of the two. I think the SS is 1520 grams and the Emax is 1250. They both are around 70 grams. The emax 2215-09 is the Flitetest Power Pack C motor for large planes. Its only rated for 3 cells but I see people all the time running 3 cell motors on 4 cells on quads. Is that the right battery in your link? only 10c?

@RagTheNutsOff6 жыл бұрын
Howdy Bruno, the ESC I'm using is a good one, also it's air cooled on the top rather than being inside the fuse where it'll get toasty hot. As for the extensions, no idea, I custom made mine from 60cm pre made ones, Matt
@DANHjAM7 жыл бұрын
A useful overview, thanks. Question: Did you put the thinner silver covering film on top of your laminate or do the wings only have the thinner silver film on? Thinking of using a bright orange film on mine. Also, did you apply any adhesive to the foam before laminating? I've seen a few saying it's better to apply 3M 77 or 90 (but I'm not sure if that was ok for EPO or just EPP).

Hi Matt, thanks for your very helpful videos, just a quick question on the laminate did you laminate the wings and then cover with the silver or is it just the silver covering on the wings?
@RagTheNutsOff6 жыл бұрын
Howdy Adam, great question! Before I answer, note I made a video on laminating a short while ago here kzbin.info/aero/PLgoM4-umzSqerAGMmuSZ7Yq3dybsQittq So with that in mind, in this instance I didn't as I knew what the silver film was like to work with (easy). However on a EPP wing when using white film which is very sensitive stuff, I laminated the wing first with clear (easy), then covered with the white film. Hope that helps Adam, Matt

HI Matt, trying to setup my mini talon with L9R, Vector and need some help please. Do you have a set by step video for the taranis, vector set up? thanks in advance
@RagTheNutsOff7 жыл бұрын
Howdy fella, I don't. However the process is pretty straight forwards if you have a good read of the manual. The key thing to note is that you change the servo movement in the Taranis to match what the model is doing in a stabilized mode. If you get stuck, just ask in the RTNO FaceBook group as there is loads of us with vectors. Matt

Thanks, Matt; great job as usual, and I appreciate the detailed build video. Interested in your aileron hinges; are they only tape? Are they still attached at the foam and you added tape reinforcement? Did you laminate over the hinge line? Asking because for my current build I detached the ailerons, then reattached them with actual hinges, and now I'm contemplating laminating over the hinge line for strength and a little more of a smooth airflow (I'd deflect the ailerons full down as I'm laminating over the top hinge line, vice-versa for the bottom, hopefully to prevent binding).
@RagTheNutsOff8 жыл бұрын
Howdy fella, I left them attached and there isn't any laminate over them, that was cut to ensure that the hinge worked ok, then I used blenderm tape to ensure a good hinge. See this video for how I do that kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5iaZqukpNCFpKs Matt

Thanks for the video, very nice. I am also just building my talon and I am a total beginner! do you glue the servos into the fittings or is there another way? Just think abt how to replace them if they break after a crash... reg BEC, do you only use the integrated BEC in the ESC as the only power source for servos, fc, vtx or do you have separate becs?thanks beforehand!
@RagTheNutsOff6 жыл бұрын
Howdy fella, I use hot glue and have never had an issue. As for the BEC, you'll need at least a 3A BEC because it's 4 servos and extras. Hope that helps, Matt
@Dozerboy846 жыл бұрын
RagTheNutsOff thanks your quick reply! have a 5a integrated bec so will only use this for all the extras!

Sweet. The only model I have a separate BEC in is the XUAV Clouds and thats because it's so big, I run the servos on 6V instead of 5V (yes the servos I'm using can take it), Matt
@Dozerboy846 жыл бұрын
one last question matt, the BEC wires that come out of the ESC, do you feed the 5A into a power distribution board and let each component take from there? otherwise might be difficult to hook all components to the BEC directly? plsd to hear and thanks again

Hi. I've got an Immersion 600mW video transmitter in my quad. Which video receiver do you use with your FPV Fatshark v3 goggles and what's the range expected?
@RagTheNutsOff8 жыл бұрын
Morning, thats a good question, however the point here is that the reception quality is completely "subjective". I use a diversity receiver with a Aomway diamond antenna pointed at the area I'm going to be flying the most & clover so even with a 25mw vtx I get great reception! Matt

I've just ordered one today! I've got a couple questions . Is 60cm enough to extend the servo leads from the tail and from the wings to the flight controller ? What kind of tape is it , that you've puted on the ailerons ?

Howdy Leonardo, 60cm extensions should do it, see the video description for the links to the ones I used. And I had to add in 1 extra wire for both sides (audio and a RSSI line).
