It's summertime, I'm away from the studio, but I did bring some bits and bobs to continue to sketch a few tracks, or at least the backbone of a few tracks. I got a Digitakt earlier this summer in order to create a live set with it and replace the Alphabase live. I felt more secure with a Digitakt, even if it doesn't have the punch nor the dynamics; it's very small, relatively inexpensive and it's reliable. In any case, it served its purpose, the live set at Pan D'Or festival was a lot of fun and I've had a lot of nice feedback :) . And since I now have a Digitakt, I though why not use it for a little summer production time. It's really suited for the job, you have to admit. Even without an interface, even without a computer, Digitakt + a small synth of your choosing (an ever changing Palette case in my... well...case) makes for a super capable and fun mini techno setup. I'm sure an Elektronauts power user could even play a live set with this.
In any case, hope you like this video and that it makes you try a few small setups of your own :)

that is so much fun for how small it is using just those two boxes! nice sounds as usual too, would LOVE to hear you play a 4 hour set in a small dark warehouse like the good old days I remember so well

Yeah those two mini boxes are super fun. Ideally I should have brought a second oscillator to swap and have a couple different flavours of sound, but I also like the idea of pushing the 158 ! 4h live set sounds a bit much for now ahah but I'm down for 2h :) Missing the warehouses too...

Great video. I know this is years ago now, but you can externally clock pams by using the din sync cable ALM make, as the digitakt can output din sync from the second midi output. 0hp and maybe slightly easier than going via ableton!

You can clock Pam's directly from the digitakt via a DIN adapter that is sold by ALM. Essentially you just configure the digitakt midi out to be DIN and then plug the adapter into Pams clock in and Run and set the relevant PPQN settings

Man this is really beautiful stuff. Don't understand everything, might have to look some things back, but overall great esthetic of lots of offset polymeter stuff without it just sounding random. Inspiring sound!

Thank you ! It's nothing too complicated but many mini sequences or modulation added that end up making a short sequence hopefully not too boring.

Really good stuff, thanks! The only thing I have realised is, when you have samples which are so long and additionally set up to infinity, there's not much you can do in terms of live muting/un muting unless you play live with the Digitakt's internal mixer, what is your take on that?

Yes, when you mute the track the sample will play to the end... Actually I don't mind too much. It's nice sounding if there is delay and reverb on the sound otherwise it's too abrupt. You can even use it to your advantage when changing patterns as the sound will continue playing it will make a nice transition.

Why don't you record the Modular pules from Ableton and then load that into the Digitakt?

The Digitakt doesn't have individual outs from which to send the pulses to the modular; and in any case I wouldn't want to tie an entire instrument channel just for sync. If I'm using them stand alone I'll find a way to fit the Pamela's midi expander to have them in sync; or get one of Intellijel 1u midi tiles.
