Making a full track with a 62hp Modular System and a Digitakt

As a bit of a challenge to myself I decided to try and make a track using just sounds I sampled from the mini system I have with me right now. It was fun not to rely on the ol' x0x / Alphabase samples. Well, almost. At least I feel like I'm using the small modular system and the Digitakt to a fuller extent. It's also a nice limitation to manage to make stuff sounding interesting without relying on big FX pedals or a ton of plugins.

Thank you Owen ! Small size rigs are really cool to try new things and spark inspiration. Just add a sampler/interface and you can pump out the tracks :)

Great video, thanks for sharing the process and thought that goes into the music. I particularly appreciate how you get the sounds as close to final as possible before recording, good advice. I also use a Palette + Digitakt combo, I have found the small modular setup to compliment the Digitakt well. The two really need each other to create a track, and the constraints lead to some interesting places. Looking forward to future videos.

I have a friend who use the digitakt as drone machine, but thank for showing how easy I can record my modular inside. I guess this will be my drum Maschine than. Or do you think a 909 would be batter for hypnotic techno ?

I mean a Digitakt will give you infinitely more than playing 909 sounds; it's a full on groove box. A TR-09 is great but it does just one thing. It depends a bit of what you have already and what you need.

@@LucasMarchal I was using only eurorack also for drums but I want a smaller system and a nice little drum Maschine for playing live. The only thing is I also can see myself doing ambient with the digitakt. Why you have both ?

@@MordioMusic I don't have the digitakt anymore I sold it long ago. I do however have an octatrack but I pretty much only use it for live sets.

Hi Lucas, I’ve found that generating kicks (or any other percussion) live on the modular in an analogue fashion tends to made each sound ever so slightly different. I find that because analogue waves don’t always sync up perfectly, it creates an almost imperceptible movement. That in turn makes it sound more alive in an subconscious way. When you’re sampling the kick into your Digitakt, you take away that variation. Do you do anything on the DT to compensate for that? Have you found a way to modulate the samples in order to regain that analogue feel?

Yeah I agree but I don't do anything in the Digitakt. At least for the kick, I don't mind if it's always the same. I do modulate the other percs a lot with lfos though, to make them a bit more alive.
