Mini tutorial - lollipop/coiled wire stone setting

Hi Guys! In this video I want to show you another of my favourite stone settings (yes I know, I have a lot of favourites lol)
I call this the lollipop or coiled wire setting but I am sure it goes by many other names. This technique is a clever way to set flat back or diamond cut stones that do not have a drill hole. The setting can be used for oval stones as well so play around with it and see what works for you. As always leave a comment and thoughts below! 😊⬇

Materials:
- 0.6 mm (22 ga) to 1 mm (18 ga) square wire (size dependant on size of the stone)
- Any size stone as long as the wire gauge is adjusted accordingly
Tools:
- Wire cutters
- Chain nose pliers

Thank you so much for sharing 'how to set an un-drilled stone'. I really like a round setting & I have lots of un-drilled stones. Would this setting be easy to adapt to a ring design securely, I'm sure it would look lovely?..

Yes, you could definitely use this in a ring but I would recommend surrounding the setting with supporting structure. :)

I inherited a massive and I mean massive amount of unset gemstones and they've just been sitting in my storage building.. after seeing this and other setting videos, maybe I can put those to use.. I especially love this setting.

You're a lucky lady!! I would love to see that haul just to oogle lol! There are a million ways to set these small little stones. This is just one of them. Hope you have lots of fun setting them!!

My aunt sat around in her retirement days ordering tons and tons of these faceted stones and gems and jewelry.. when she passed, everyone got their hands in this stash and took the jewelry and left my mom with hundreds and hundreds of these unset gems, no one knew what to do with them so they've just been sitting in storage, so my mom passed a few yrs ago and they became mine.. and I didn't know what to do with them either 😂😂😂... Since I dabble in polymer clay, wire wrapping started coming through my feed.. I pray that I have enough patience to learn to do this, I'm very intimidated.. I guess it's best to start with the larger gemstones.. anyway, I'll be watching everything you post ❤️God bless you 😀

How do you use that to make a ring

I don't think this would be stable in a ring unless you encase it with some weaves or wires. This setting can be distorted easily if it snags and so it needs proper securing. Prong setting is better for a high wear and tear item such as a ring or bracelet. Hope this helps!
