This is a cool project. I remember having a "tiny" (back then) black & white TV that took like 8 D batteries lol barely could get PBS from the antenna.

When I was 12 (1960) and I was trying to figure out how TVs worked, this is what I had in mind. A TV I could watch in bed. I'd still like to have one.

I was thinking it would be science fiction in 1960, but Sony had produced a smallish TV in 1960 - The SONY TV-8 301. Two year later they made the all transistor Micro-TV 5. Very expensive, heavy, and not exactly miniature. In the 1970's you had real miniature TVs. The gadget in the video is just an ESP32 video player though.

Why the holemounted wroom? The few reg chips etc on that breakout board could easily be on your own board no?
@megazoid
@megazoid Жыл бұрын
It's a nice idea. I did think about it. You could break everything down (amp, charging board, D1), even ribbon cable the screen. A lot of people do that and then sell you "their" product. This way though you can make it with a $10 soldering iron. Also, I don't really want to get into hotplates or manufacturing. Thanks for the comment!

I think it could be more useful as a flat pocketable device. But I do appreciate the idea and execution.
@megazoid
@megazoid Жыл бұрын
I'm going for TV shaped, but it could be in a thinner generic 3d printed case with a total thickness of around 23mm. Pocketable, but not exactly credit card.I'll open source it as soon as it's done so people can play around with it. 👍

@@megazoid Considering that this is really more of a novelty fun thing to have, I'm not sure the form factor really matters that much. If people want a TV that's pocketable, they've already got cellphones that can handle the job.

Will it work with the new esp32 with usb-c and charging on board?
@megazoid
@megazoid Жыл бұрын
You are probably talking about the ESP32 S3's. In which case no. But the Lilygo t7 v1.5 would work. It has onboard charging but a Micro USB port. In a lot of ways it's the better option.

Hi love this Project, quick question how did you know the 1mm trace was needed di the software insert it for you?
@megazoid
@megazoid Жыл бұрын
Simple answer is I don't know. It's trial and error trace sizes based on previous builds of the project. To get the maximum 80 MHz on the serial clock line to the screen (in this project) it seems to need a fat boy trace.

Sorry, I'm not selling them. Tiny TV 2 by Tiny Circuits on Indiegogo is similar if you want something ready made. They have a backlog on orders, but are sorting that out.

It's especially weird, since this guy isn't American by the sounds of things, so his support of Trump means nothing, as he won't be voting. In my experience, non-Americans who like Trump are often keen on seeing his behaviour and attitudes becoming accepted by their own country. i.e being openly bigoted.
