I've found myself staring at this project again. I tackled this back in 2020 and discovered all the same problems. I got so burnt out trying to finish it I gave up. But not before I started working on a 3d model of the GBP that can be printed and fits the gaboze round2 with a 2.8" screen. I figured I might as well squeeze in the 2.8" since I have to make a custom ribbon and retrofit a screen anyways, and I don't care if the printed case ends up slightly larger than the original. I'd love to get my hands on all the files and info you have so I don't have to start over completely lol
@megazoid2 күн бұрын
I hope it works out for you. I'm not sure anything I did is going to help you though. I used a 2.4inch screen on both the Gaboze Pocaio 1 & 2. I can upload my "topper" STL, the screen pinout that I used (2.6 to 2.4 inch screen), and the original image file which is no longer online. This image is an old version of Retro Pie (2018-ish?) setup for the Gaboze Pocaio by 32Teeth. Links will be posted in the description.

Awesome, be keen for one :) although I do have an AliExpress order on the way with some bits to make one of these, the minimal guide intrigued me.
@megazoid15 күн бұрын
It should go together okay. If you have to take a fraction off the PCB to get it in the case, make sure you sand down all sides evenly to try to keep the screen alignment correct. The other thing is you will have to enlarge (drill out) the upper right screen hole. You can see this in the "Step 5: Silicone Sheet" picture. I just didn't mention in the guide. Any issues, let me know. 👍
@dynamight112413 күн бұрын
@@megazoid Thanks for the tips, just starting to get things together now to make sure I have everything I need, I did see in some videos the screen had a different hole, which made me wonder if I bought the correct screen! I assume you removed the breakout connector on the back as well? else it feels too far away. I think I have everything except for R2, it says a 500m ohm resistor on the schematics, is that correct? my kit only goes upto 1m but feels pretty high.
@megazoid13 күн бұрын
@@dynamight1124 Yes - completely remove the rear connector from the screen. The 0.4 or 0.5 ohm was on the original schematic. I had to buy a small strip of them from AliExpress. I'll put a link in the description of this video.

Finally built one of these back in the summer after most of the parts sat in a bag for like 12 months prior. The STL files were really not designed to work with 3D printing imo probably work great when laser cut from plywood, I really wanted to design a whole new case but ended up sanding for hours and applying silly amounts of pressure with heavy duty clamps, it will not be able to come apart...ever! although I did remix slightly with a USBC port I tend to use and also a power switch. Plus I was too cheap to buy the PCB files so just soldered everything up directly, which caused a problem with creating the control panel, to be honest that was mostly the reason I didnt make it for so long. Its now on the shelf, never to be used again like most projects, more fun building than actually using.
@megazoid27 күн бұрын
I was going to mention you in the video (I forgot). I didn't know about Galagino before you said you were going to build it (ages ago). The slop or give in the joints was way too small unfortunately, but I'm probably guilty of doing the same thing. Everybody should have the same 3d printer.. that will cure it 😊
@dynamight112427 күн бұрын
To be fair, I'm not sure there was any slope at all. It does all fit together quite nicely when done tho and looks pretty nice. Its pretty crazy what you can do with a very cheap ESP32 these days, those games were cutting edge like 40 years ago.

What is this other Picopad compatible system you mention? Sounded like Fami Color? Can't find it anywhere.
@megazoid2 ай бұрын
Thumby Color - the link is in the video description. It's not Picopad compatible though. In the video I was just saying it used the same processor (RP2350 - Pi Pico 2). You could import a Picopad kit from the Czech Republic. They ship to the US if you contact them with the request.The kit is mainly simple through-hole stuff. (all links in the description) My project files are also available, but it's a tough build mainly because it's a lot of components, a lot of steps, and small 0603 SMD work. I'm not really expecting anybody to build it.
